When Celtic make their trip to the ‘neat little town they call Belfast’ (I’ve been off radar recently, assume it’s still described thus) they will have no reason to believe they are ready for a game of football which could determine the success or failure of the coming season. Instead the players will share a degree of anxiousness.
Cliftonville rank about as low as is possible to get in European competition but they will be better than the Arbroath team which left Glasgow with a draw last season against a Celtic team who were motoring at the time.
We have some concerning history against the Irish. Celtic’s first ever Champions League qualifier was against St Patrick’s Athletic in 1998. The visitors left Celtic Park with a 0-0 draw before Celtic won 0-2 in Ireland. In the 1979-80 European Cup Dundalk gave us a fright. Celtic won the first leg 3-2, at home, but had to endure a nervous second half in Dundalk as the home side searched, in vain as it turned out, for the goal which would allow them to win the tie on away goals.
Anything less than 100% on Wednesday will see Celtic walk a tightrope………

Hate to say it but back in the day I used to sing about my girlfriend tying yellow ribbons round the old oak tree for me when I got out of jail so that I’d know she still loved me……but….I was single at the time, had never been in jail and there was no old oak tree anywhere near where I lived…..still sung the song though….

This is a bit cheeky. but I’d be interested in the ticket. Would also need to sort out travel (you driving or travelling by bus ?) and safe accommodation. Oh and break the news to the wife !
…..if its got a good choon ah’ll sing it….
Queens Park Rangers have made an increased
offer for Celtic striker Gary Hooper.
The 25-year-old striker has one year left on
his current deal at Parkhead and, with no
signs of a new contract, it seems Celtic are
ready to sell at the right price.
Hull City, Norwich and QPR have all made
bids this summer but as yet none have been
accepted.
Now Sky Sports understands that QPR, who
are hoping to bounce back to the Premier
League at the first time of asking, have gone
back with an improved bid.
QPR, who have other targets, are optimistic
that they are now in pole position and are
hopeful they could conclude a deal by this
weekend.
It is understood that Hooper is ready to play
in the Championship with QPR if the deal is
right.

true story.
Charlotte is calling out Jack Irvine big time tonight copying in George Osbourne as good ol Jack targeted HMRC officials. The salami slice approach of Charlotte is perfect and Jack Irvine and a few others must be a tad concerned about what is next.
On the Celtic front far from impressed about this Sharp character. Is he any better than Tony Watt — don’t think so. What is Lenny playing at ? Pedro needs to make sure Lenny and the Team take we’d seriously. What should be a routine game has become a bit of a banana skin. The time for lack lustre displays are over and a sizeable victory is in order.
Is it just me or does anyone else notice that when they post the blog goes into slow motion…….
Oops….forgot the…..?
Where’s my cqn hero Kevj?……..a hope

Celtic First,
No idea why it’s down, but, as you probably know, it’s been red hot these last few days.
Lots of forensic analysis from sharp guys.
Wouldn’t be surprised if it is under attack from the villains.
When you see what has been going on and how far reaching the tentacles of corruption have spread, then it will take an honest Establishment to procure justice.
Unfortunately, I don’t think we have one.
There’ll be a fair few whoppers………..

Thanks. Yes, it’s been interesting. I’m not much of a Twitter user, but I couldn’t see anything of a ‘site maintenance’ type notice and it made me suspicious.
Charlotte’s tweets today, as mentioned above by Latchford, were also copied to Tom Watson, who is no longer running the Labour general election strategy and said when he stepped down that he was looking forward to asking questions people don’t like from the back benches. He is a good guy, and a football fan. I hope the Scottish football debacle takes his fancy.
Even though a train has crashed into it, it’s been burnt to the ground, it’s frequented by various murderers over the years and Newton and Ridleys draught stout is shit….I’d still drink in the Rovers Return before the Queen Vic….

Just when it appeared Celtic had a settled team and were ready to kick on in European competition we lose Wanyama and now our goalador Hooper it seems.
It must be remembered Vic had a fair number of important goals to his credit.
When Celtic face Cliftonville on Wednesday night we are facing a side who are also in pre-season and not some team with ten or fifteen games into their season.
The match will also be played in cooler weather conditions different from the torrid heat which prevailed in the recent continental tour.
LOI club Cork City played a 2-2 draw Cliftonville when they met in the All Ireland Cup at Solitude last Feb and the LOI season did not begin until March. Cliftonville were well into the second half of their season.
If Celtic do not progress against this side, the team should not be in Europe.
A great draw for the Solitude lads and should be a great occasion.

Think Paul may be on his hols ? I’ve got a wee bit to do beforehand, I had discounted the chance of going as I assumed demand would have been too high.
