Confederated league gathers pace as Belarus bids to join

905

The momentum for a confederated regional league in Eastern Europe continues to gather pace with clubs from Belarus keen to join.  With a population of around 10m, Belarus is sandwiched between Russia, Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic states, but their league has been rendered uncompetitive by the domination of Bate Borisov, who are on their way to eight-in-a-row titles.

Bate, who are now Champions League regulars, have no opportunity to progress while the rest of the league do not have the resources to compete with them.  A regional league would solve all their problems.

Russian and Ukrainian clubs are aiming to have a confederated league in place by the start of 2014, with sponsors thought to be keen to step forward and underwrite whatever is necessary to smooth the way, but the Ukrainian FA suggest 2016 is a more viable date.

Scottish football stands to gain more from regionalisation than anywhere else on the planet. We need to have this debate before blindly stumbling into another Management of Decline while legislators in Minsk leave us behind!

Today is the last guaranteed posting date for CQN Annuals before Christmas, so if you haven’t ordered yet, this is your chance.

Many thanks for the tremendous support of the Annual in recent weeks.  We have shipped lots to Australia, Canada and USA, across various European and Asian countries, and to hundreds of towns and cities across Scotland, England and Ireland.  Even Ayrshire!

Last guaranteed date before Christmas. You can order the CQN Annual here!

    Bom dia,

Been awhile since I’ve been sniffing about.

It’s close season here in Brasil (state championships not due to start until end of Jan) so there’s not much happening, apart from a flurry of transfer rumours.

    Two that may immediately interest:

Junior Pernambucano (ex of Lyon) has left Vasco to go to NY Red Bulls. Apparently the NY Red Bulls, Global Sporting Director (who was Junior’s old manager at Lyon) recommended him to NY Red Bulls, Sporting Director who signed him. The two managers in question? Gerard Houlier and Andy Roxburgh.

Juan Roman Riquelme, I saw a fair bit of noise on here last night about Roman, canny see it (but I’ve been wrong – oftimes before). Boca have just reappointed Carlos Bianchi as manager. However, if he does leave, Palmeiras (although relegated to Serie B this year) are said to be keen and have the offer of big Contract, plus Libertadores fitba (they won the Copa do Brasil this year).

    Other possible moves:

Lucio (Juventus) to São Paulo (or Cruzeiro)

    Robinho (Milan) to Santos

    Pato (Milan) to Corinthians

Also, Vasco’s international centre half (and a fair player) Dedê is on the market. Apparently, his agent contacted Celtic but was told “Not at that price. No thanks”

Last one – Taking the family to NY for Crimbo and want to catch the game on the 26th. Which of the NY CSC’s (we’re staying Midtown) is best to take a 3yr old to?

    Thanks for the post.

Dedé, where is he off to?

The general consensus on the Fifa forums is that he is the best CB in the World and that is backed up by his online gaming abilities. He is the central CB in my 3 – 5 – 2, the Daddy otherwise, alongside Thiago Silva and David Luiz.

  3. “David Provan for Celtic…..flights in yet another dangerous looking cross…..the Rangers defense are on the rack again as it falls for Roy Aitken….he leaves it to…Murdo MACLLLEEEOOOOD…WHO SCORES A ROCKET SHOT…INTO THE ROOF OF THE RANGERS NET. Murdo Macleod…Celtic’s – pocket battle-ship – has made it – Celtic 2-0 Rangers in the League Cup Final here at a rain soaked Hampden Park !!!”

Whereas an SFA man would ask “Who needs to be bunged? Who’s gonnae bung me? Whit lodge are these guys in?”

  5. Ntassoolla I will be visiting this fair city in the spring with my team for a training camp. The people are very friendly and the drink is very good and cheap.

I know where you are coming from but I cannot see Scotland joining with Northern Ireland, The Republic of Ireland and Wales. It could lead to security problems.

  8. To all those investing, remember a football club is for life not just for Christmas.

    Or maybe not….

  9. Into the last half hour.

Chuck anxiously pacing, as after touring every ghetto in the land and promising Orange Strips, No SPL and a team in Northern Ireland the issue is an epic fail.

He has some explaining to do, to guys who dont like to lose money…

  10. Snake Plissken

Just wait to you see the carnage on a weekly basis between teams from Russia and the Ukraine.

They deplore each other! NI can **** off anyway… :0)

  11. Andrew67, the club gets more tv revenue and then what? How much did Bolton or Wigan get and how much debt are they in now, or in fact just about every EPL club? PL gets his hands on the extra dosh and what’s in it for us, the supporters? Cheaper season ticket prices, standing areas, improved facilities etc etc…probably not. Ok this new league maybe better than the SPL but we’ll be expected to pay through the nose, while the games will be shown on tv for those who don’t bother going anymore. I’d rather be first in the SPL, playing and developing the young players and a winning and entertaining system, be in the CL, than finishing in the top 3 or 6 and spending our way into major debt to appease the type of fan who goes nuts cause we don’t win every home game. I don’t see the grass necessarily being that much greener elsewhere.

  12. Petec 12:35

Nothing definite, but Dedê could be off to Corinthians (this time last year it was Benfica who were hot favourites for his signature). There’s a mass exodus from his team, Vasco right now.

Another one you may want to look at for your Brasilian dream CB’s is Rever at Atletico-MG.

    Boa sorte!

  13. I used to rule the world

Seas would rise when I gave the word

Now in the morning I sleep alone

Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice

Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes

Listen as the crowd would sing

“Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!”

One minute I held the key

Next the walls were closed on me

And I discovered that my castles stand

Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing

    Roman Cavalry choirs are singing

Be my mirror, my sword and shield

My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can’t explain

Once you go there was never

    Never an honest word

And that was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild wind

Blew down the doors to let me in

    [ From: http://www.elyrics.net ]

Shattered windows and the sound of drums

People couldn’t believe what I’d become

    Revolutionaries wait

For my head on a silver plate

Just a puppet on a lonely string

Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing

    Roman Cavalry choirs are singing

Be my mirror, my sword and shield

My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can’t explain

I know Saint Peter won’t call my name

    Never an honest word

But that was when I ruled the world

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing

    Roman Cavalry choirs are singing

Be my mirror, my sword and shield

My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can’t explain

I know Saint Peter won’t call my name

    Never an honest word

But that was when I ruled the world

  14. Share my pain!

I’m sitting by the post box, a prospectus on my mind,

I’m prepared to act so swiftly for Charlie’s pay in kind

I want some shares in sevco, it’s a newco if you please,

I’ve made my case to Santa who’ll place them by the tree.

To save the Sevco Rangers, is a noble cause for some,

and mischief making bampots will surely come undone,

Ye see wee have yir email add, n we know where ye live

I’ll be bringing my team to see ye and take my 500 quid,

It’s time to count my money and I hope you feel my pain

Cause soon I’ll be down in Yorkshire tout suit on the train.

  15. Although I am based in Italy for 8/9 months of the year I have decided to have the CQN annual delivered to deepest Ayrshire, where I will be spending the festive season. Fly out on Saturday morning and, after an overnight stay at the Clarion Hotel at Dublin Airport, will touch down at Prestwick the following morning.

Anyone in the vicinity of Dub airport on the day in question – will be having Guiness for breakfast! All welcome!

    Corruption index ?

I had a look at that —- I was amazed at how generous it is to Italy .

Corruption is rife in Southern Italy and Sicily .

A recent example from Sicily ——-

Politician fails to get re elected to the Regional Parliament . The following day said politician is given a big cheese bureaucrat’s gig with a bankrupt town council . 100 k a year and a wow of a pension . No job advert / no competition / no interview . Simply a here’s a job . Said council regularly fails to pay its hourly paid employees . Many haven’t been paid for months.

Said council used to be ruled by a husband and wife pair who embezzled 12 million before moving to the Dominican Republic .

People simply shrug their shoulders and say –That’s Life.
