Conflict of interest Ogilvie

860

As newco chief executive, Derek Llambias reported to his AGM yesterday, he meets the SFA today to discuss further involvement of Newcastle United owner, Mike Ashley at his club.  Ashley is nearing the end of a power-struggle between his faction, which appears to include the Easdale brothers, and pretty-much everyone else who goes to Ibrox, as well as Dave King and other worthies noticeable by their absence when the assets of oldco were to be paid for.

One of this morning’s newspapers appears to suggest SFA board member Peter Lawwell may retire from this meeting on account of him apparently having a conflict of interest, however, I believe this would be extraordinarily unlikely.  Peter is no more or less incentive to see business being conducted appropriately than anyone else.

That’s not to say there’s not a conflict of interest.  SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, will also attend the meeting.  Ogilvie passed his Rangers shares to his wife when he became an executive director of Hearts.  SFA Articles of Association expressly forbids a person from having an influence with one club while “directly or indirectly” being a shareholder in another without the prior written consent of the SFA.

Mr Ogilvie may have attained prior written consent of the SFA on this subject before accepting the Hearts job, but if he did, I don’t see the need to transfer his shares to a family member.  This makes Ogilvie look like a tawdry ducker and diver, wholly inappropriate to lead the Association. If I was Llambias I’d challenge Ogilvie the first moment he opened his mouth.

As I said earlier in the week, don’t get too hung up on Ashley’s shareholding.  If it proves a stumbling block he could play The Offshore Game and quickly disinvest to an entity based in the British Virgin Islands (seems to be the hot location for these types), the control of which could never be traced to him.

Those hoping the SFA will inhibit Ashley’s land-grab of retail and other rights are also likely to be disappointed.  JJB and Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan established precedent that he was able to conclude extensive trading contract with other clubs while in charge of Wigan without compromising multi-ownership principles.  Ashley can own and exploit all commercial rights of newco.

The key point Ashley will be concerned about in SFA rules is article 13. (3), which forbids persons from having “any power whatsoever to influence the management or administration of another club”.

The rules permit the SFA to grant Ashley permission to increase his shareholding but the phrase “any power whatsoever” is patently clear.  Ashley cannot appoint board members or offer loan players.

The Dear Green Place

Yesterday’s uncertainty alarmed many in Glasgow but the reality of the news brought disaster to some.  May God help each of them.

There’s always a spring in the step when news of our pal Kano arrives.  That changed when I opened the email from Carolyn yesterday to hear Martin was in Intensive Care.  We know through his time on the blog that Kano brought vigour and resolve to his life years before his illness struck.  If anyone can overcome this, it’s him.

Just out of interest what score did you give previous managers for their 1st season?

  2. Speaking to my Jambo mate this morning. Paterson of Hearts played up front last night and scored. He has played most of the season in his recognised RB position but he reckons he will eventually be a right midfielder. The boy is a solid player. I suspect he will be next off to England. I thought we should have made a move for him last season but we didn’t.

He is not better than we have at the minute in right back but is very adaptable and a decent addition to a squad playing on 4 fronts in my opinion.

Celtic board, have the same contempt for their fans, as the sevco board showed to their fans. Basically GTF.

Maybe Big Peter and lackeys haven’t noticed that CP is half empty on match days.

And any sevco/hun board are secure in the knowledge, that they can cheat with abandon, because Big Peter and minions will always look the other way.

The Celtic board are complicit cowards imo.

Scoddish fitba stinks with the stench of corruption….as far as im concerned, you can stick that where the sun don’t shine.

We need rid of this board, they are totally shameless in their bowing and scraping to the huns….they don’t represent Celtic, they represent themselves….which is quite obvious if you see the money they are personally getting….for what exactly are they being rewarded for?….For taking us backwards, and being complicit in the attempted resurrection of the old firm?

Peter, you are a total chancer…..anywhere else you would have been sacked.

I know you love Big Peter, but the fact is, that he will not open his mouth regarding hun corruption.

Now, are you suggesting that Celtic fans should just over look the corruption?

Stop defending people who haven’t the balls to tell it like it is.

  13. !!Bada Bing!!

I would argue all wingers can be inconsistent but get your point. My point was he is proven in the league and playing with better players usually improve players. Just my thoughts. Would rather spend £100k on him than pay £2m+ for another Derk.

I’m not suggesting what any celtic supporter should do or say, your attacking the board and the club, and PL.

I disagree with every thing you posted there, but it’s your right to post what you think, and it’s my right to disagree and I do.

And I will continue to do, same as yesterday when I asked for any proof of CFC involvement with the five way seceret agreement, and specifically asked for PROOF, and no suppositions or people’s thoughts , 24 hrs. Later what did I get? You got it same old same old, boring actually, thoughts on it are fine by me, but there are nut cases on here making allegations that CFC where 100% involved in it, reason for that assumption? They had to be………

    Yes or no.

  19. Just received a Christmes card from my sister in law in Canada – her brother has been diagnosed with cancer – this after losing her mother earlier this year and her husband ( my brother David) last year.

I know i can count on your prayers

  20. niallo83

I wouldn;t disagree with that. I have not seen much of Wakaso to be fair but he scored a good goal in Salzburg. Tonev has only had fleeting chances and has looked OK.

Both players though will cost around £10k a week in wages. GMS will cost about half that. Is he much worse? I’m not sure.

In an ideal world I would not have any of these guys and source a very good winger who will improve the team but we need to buy players who are not on the radar of all 5 top leagues and a number of others. Our manager is a visionery and top coach with young players so GMS should improve vastly. If he can take an unpolished diamond and make him a gem then he is doing what he promised. Maybe I see it as a project to gauge his coaching abilities.

Just putting my thoughts out there.

He was less successful in Europe in his 1st 2 seasons in charge than RD has been in his 1st, so I’m not sure that’s a plus point to be honest.

  22. Who owns the big hoose?

So it seems that in 2009, Ibrox was co-owned by Scottish and Newcastle Breweries PLC and RFC (as was). This being the case, part ownership would still reside with RFC (IL) which could be argued as being the legal asset of the list of creditors.

Unless of course, some chuckling or tape-loving gent snapped it up as part of the asset sale.

    Any takers?

  23. Mild Colonial Bhoy on

Just back from Christmas Vigil service and as it is now Christmas morning in Aotearoa i will wish everyone a Happy Christmas. And could I ask for some assistance for a present for my son. Despite living 18000 kilometres from Celtic Park he is as devoted a Bhoy as you will find. He has only been to Scotland once before and during his visit he saw Celtic 8 times including a win over the liquidated Rangers. He is going to be in Scotland for a few weeks from the end of January and would like to see the first ever game between Celtic and the new Rangers. Is there anyone who would be able to assist with a ticket? Thanks.

Tony, im attacking the board as you put it….because they are spineless.

You know as well as me, how corrupt Scottish football is, to pretend otherwise, is just stupidity.

Now, if these people who claim to represent Celtic, are unable, or unwilling to expose the corruption, what does that say about them as people?

I wont look the other way, or tug the forelock to cheating huns…..and its a pity the so called Celtic board don’t have my fighting spirit….seemingly, according to Big Peter, we have to ignore the cheating, because the huns might get upset…..really!

I don’t give a monkeys how upset these cheating huns get….should we all be frightened by goons and bigots?….I don’t think so.

Celtic board my arse…a bunch of browned brogued businessmen imo…nothing more.

They certainly don’t have my respect.

You realise that in suggesting that Peter Lawwell and the Celtic Board had nothing to do with the five way agreement you are suggesting that they are either incompetent or totally ineffectual or both?

With friends like you they don’t need enemies.

  26. Looks as though we are after some Scottish players and maybe a few Ronny knows from Norway.

    I’d be supportive of that.

The kind of players we bring in from Israel or end up with little or no real value if they don’t make it or are squad fillers. Biton could be sold at a small profit but he has still not improved the first team. His plodding style and lack of positional sense are made up for in vision and tidy passing. Ambrose is a liability but works for us in games we need to open up defences from the back. Kayal was good until the McCulloch assault but that poor return tells you a lot about his mentality. None of the three would net us a significant profit.

Contrast that with signing any of McGinn from St Mirren, any of the Dundee United lads, Christie from ICT, Paterson from Hearts, Anya…

Then there’s the young boy from Stromso and those that have done well when on loan in Norway who are no begining to prosper at their parent clubs.

The Scottish talent will always retain a resale value regardless of their success at the club. The English lower leagues are willing to take these players on due to them having been scouted by Celtic and played for the club. This is less so in terms of Southern european and African players.

Ronnys prob looked at the rest of the SPFL and thought there are players that could make our first team better.

I’m just sorry we missed out on Gauld, Robertson, Russell and May.

Hard to find an upcoming centre half. Mind you Danny Wilson seems to be on the road to recovery.
