Conflict of interest Ogilvie

860

As newco chief executive, Derek Llambias reported to his AGM yesterday, he meets the SFA today to discuss further involvement of Newcastle United owner, Mike Ashley at his club.  Ashley is nearing the end of a power-struggle between his faction, which appears to include the Easdale brothers, and pretty-much everyone else who goes to Ibrox, as well as Dave King and other worthies noticeable by their absence when the assets of oldco were to be paid for.

One of this morning’s newspapers appears to suggest SFA board member Peter Lawwell may retire from this meeting on account of him apparently having a conflict of interest, however, I believe this would be extraordinarily unlikely.  Peter is no more or less incentive to see business being conducted appropriately than anyone else.

That’s not to say there’s not a conflict of interest.  SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, will also attend the meeting.  Ogilvie passed his Rangers shares to his wife when he became an executive director of Hearts.  SFA Articles of Association expressly forbids a person from having an influence with one club while “directly or indirectly” being a shareholder in another without the prior written consent of the SFA.

Mr Ogilvie may have attained prior written consent of the SFA on this subject before accepting the Hearts job, but if he did, I don’t see the need to transfer his shares to a family member.  This makes Ogilvie look like a tawdry ducker and diver, wholly inappropriate to lead the Association. If I was Llambias I’d challenge Ogilvie the first moment he opened his mouth.

As I said earlier in the week, don’t get too hung up on Ashley’s shareholding.  If it proves a stumbling block he could play The Offshore Game and quickly disinvest to an entity based in the British Virgin Islands (seems to be the hot location for these types), the control of which could never be traced to him.

Those hoping the SFA will inhibit Ashley’s land-grab of retail and other rights are also likely to be disappointed.  JJB and Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan established precedent that he was able to conclude extensive trading contract with other clubs while in charge of Wigan without compromising multi-ownership principles.  Ashley can own and exploit all commercial rights of newco.

The key point Ashley will be concerned about in SFA rules is article 13. (3), which forbids persons from having “any power whatsoever to influence the management or administration of another club”.

The rules permit the SFA to grant Ashley permission to increase his shareholding but the phrase “any power whatsoever” is patently clear.  Ashley cannot appoint board members or offer loan players.

The Dear Green Place

Yesterday’s uncertainty alarmed many in Glasgow but the reality of the news brought disaster to some.  May God help each of them.

There’s always a spring in the step when news of our pal Kano arrives.  That changed when I opened the email from Carolyn yesterday to hear Martin was in Intensive Care.  We know through his time on the blog that Kano brought vigour and resolve to his life years before his illness struck.  If anyone can overcome this, it’s him.

I admire your stance. I was on the verge of not renewing this season and will wait to see how things unfold when the hun enter our league. My young bro talked me round and I renewed. I’m glad I did as I’ve enjoyed my trips to paradise this season.

    This was the concluding paragraph.

What happens to the club’s history?

The Rangers Football Club PLC is a public limited company registered in Scotland (company number: SC004276) and was incorporated on 27 May, 1899. When the current company is officially liquidated, all of its corporate business history will come to an end.

When this happened to Airdrieonians in 2002, all of the trophies, titles and records associated with the club were discontinued and a new club, Airdrie United FC, took over. Airdrieonians’ official history ended in 2002, then Airdrie United’s took over.

The answer lies principally in the eye of the beholder. Some supporters will view the new Rangers as the same Rangers, while others will feel the old Rangers no longer exist.

  8. The Celtic ‘bored’ are, apparently keeping schtum coz of fan safety? Hmmm?

So, how safe will the fans be once the ‘advert’ goes into the Herald?

I have to say…it makes me sick when I see posts from fans – despairing – that the Celtic ‘bored’ don’t say anything about all the cheating – Ogilvie / LNS etc……well, the ‘bored’ hide behind the smoke-screen that they are keeping a lid on it for fan safety but,….nah, their at it with yeez coz, they know they’ll get away wi it – don’t they?

The Aberdeen fans told yeez whit they were doing and yet, the Celtic-sheep were getting the jelly & ice-cream shovelled doon their throats like yon wee bhoys that used tae get turned intae donkeys in the Pinocchio film. Ye see…the Celtic ‘bored’ will do or say – hee haw – about all the corruption or the fact that, the huns stole 22 trophies and £60 million in CL money whilst, the ghood ole ‘bored’ looked the ither way and, gave yeez a manager(BTM) who would take it oan the chin and avoid all the civil unrest that would have been caused if, big Mark McGhee had come in and went in for the kill and buried the bassas ghood and proper!

But, naw…a Celtic hierarchy containing a former ‘bullshitting’ cabinet, war-mongering minister – hoodwinked yeez wi his – back of the bus p#sh.

Noo – ye canny even get oan the bus if ye have a green t-shirt on with a pic of sumdy who reminds me of, Danny McGrain printed on the front of it.

    So….on conclusion…the ba’s in your court.

Be a sheep or, be a rebel and become a true legend.

Get yer heids the gither for SB renewal time and, tell the ‘bored’ that you’ll no longer invest yer hard earned cash into the biscuit-tin of a bunch of faceless geezers who’s ‘only’ function it seems is to take yer money then leave you on the outside looking in.

Frighten the sh#te oot of DD by informing him that, the SB money will only be paid in exchange of control of – YOUR – club. It’s that simple – make it that simple.

I hate the ‘bored’ coz they’ve chased me away from something that I loved dearly and, they’ve made sure that the Celtic of today has a buthers apron were a flag of freedom used to be – time to get it back before its too late……

    Exit.

The Celtic ‘bored’ wulny dae anything unless – YOU – make them dae it.

But, the ‘bored’ already know that yeez are sheep wi nae b#lls so, they’ll dae hee-haw.

  11. A lot of posters suggesting potential Scottish signings, John McGinn, Armstrong, Ryan Christie etc. For me the one Scottish player i would be keeping close tabs on is Scott Allen at Hibs. This boy is a player. Went to WBA before he was ready as he had not played enough games for DU. Now after a run of games is Hibs best player every week and is a Celtic type of player. Prediction, this boy will stick out like a sore thumb in 2015.

Oh no wait, that sounds ambiguous. I just meant, it’s my last post until the next one.

Last week I saw a message from CFC that RD had taken a player on trial. I didn’t get the chance to read the email properly as I was working, and haven’t been able to find anything about it since. But I’m sure he was either Norwegian or Scandinavian.

I’m not convinced at all about the idea of sticking with Scottish players. In principle, it’s the right thing to do, but in terms of football, until the game is completely overhauled here and the aholes at Hampden booted out, it’s madness.

They have more knowledge at Junior level in Sweden for example, than they do here in the semi pro (hun pro) leagues of the SPFL.

Another example of how we and Scots football has suffered from hunnery.

Hunnery performed a miracle by resetting the progress Jock too us in this country, and then regressing it to barnyard level. At least wee Fergus stepped in to help save us and made an effort to stop the rot.

I remember corresponding with you some time ago …your were a supporter of the management of CFC by our custodians

Me ….always a malcontent …didn’t like the structure at CFC …certainly didn’t like the news management and most of all…despised the pusillanimous approach to the Huns

We had some fairly pointed discussions

You seem even more disillusioned than me now ….as for a disconnect with many on here …..no wonder

It’s a mixture of old fashioned deference , a burning desire to support all things CFC and in many cases downright myopia

  15. Right, off oot. Before I’m accused of bullying by someone with a sinister agenda, and then countless others compounding the false accusation by expressing their disgust at how low the blog is going.

Some of us make certain points because they mean a lot to us. For me, it’s the way that some Celtic supporter are being treated. I say some, because it’s clear, many of you are unaffected by it to date, or not enough to worry you.

So you don’t really want to hear about it, or the role of the Celtic Board in this.

But if many of you prefer back-slapping those who would use these posts to seek attention for themselves, then that pretty much confirms my worst fears about CQN today.

    Debate is gone, division rules.

And next year, there will be arguments a plenty about whether or not the MIB was cheating or not.

    Rewind to 5 years ago.

  16. PF Ayr,

    Morning.

In the past, complaints about the board were based purely on finance (as far as I was concerned, although I wouldn’t be surprised if I missed some other valid points in there at the time).

I remember JF being so angry about it, he wanted a protest meeting at the ground. This to me was ridiculous. In the last few years that argument has grown serious legs, as the Willo Flood window wasn’t a one off. There’s been a total failure in this board’s strategy.

But it’s the other issues that have gotten me. The treatment of us, the support, as far as I’m concerned, is with utter contempt, at every level, and this transfers to the situation with youngsters being harassed, arrested and having their careers ruined. For me, it’s outrageous that we’re tolerating this at CP.

Another issue relevant to your point, is that when this was happening, I noticed an increased aggression in defence of the board here at that time, which lent weight to some of the claims I’d read that their were people here typing on their behalf.

Disillusioned is the right word, and the feeling extends to here. And while I’m grateful that this place is NOT as reflective as the rest of the Celtic Support, it also saddens me as I see this site aligning with a sanitised CFC if that transpires. If the board aren’t succesful in their objectives of “cleaning-up” the Celtic Support, which I don’t think they will be, I think this would also be the end of this site as well, which would be tragic.

The only possible way forward here for both Celtic and CQN, is to encourage debate, not allow certain ones to derail these discussions.

Apols for the ramble PF Ayr, not thinking aloud in response.

  17. FFM

I’m not suggesting Celtic just go Scottish, although the board might like the idea, to continue downsizing. I threw the name Scott Allan in the CQN ring primarily as i’ve been hearing rave reviews from my old man, who is on the staff at Alloa.

CQN for me has an apathy problem by some because of the state of the huns, although i also think it is a society problem with what politicians get away with.

Our grandfathers would have taken to the streets.

  18. Can I just add, this place would be very very poor without the contributions of Neganon and/or Auldheid, but there are also other countless excellent posters, some who excell at different times. For example, I thought JFH was great to read the past few days. A fella who never uses a “full stop”, but never needs to, as he always makes a valuable contribution.

  19. sid @ 06:01,

Re apathy, I was actually thinking the same thing when ranting there before. It’s the way we are in general. But then I thought, no, the apathy is more prevalent with the age group of CQN posters (no offence to yourself !). Which is why we should be doing far far more to protect the youngsters who go to Celtic Park wearing a Free Palestine t-shirt. Now I know how easily this could provoke a response about Israel :(

Sid, sorry to drag you into this, you were wanting to talk football. It’s getting me down as well, so I’m away to youtube some footage of Scott Allan. Congrats to your old man by the way – he directly contributed to the final humiliation of the Pieman, even if it is disappointing that he’s no longer managing them :)) A big HH to you and your Dad !

Keep up the good work. There are loads of people on here who support you.As to the’Liquidation’ issue. There must be a general acceptance in the business world as to what this means. When businesses large and small go bust, we all know what the implications are. We should remind them that this applies to that club from Govan in the same way – whether they like it or not. Perhaps a short lesson in Business Law for the S.F.A. would help.
