Contingency party arrangements

831

Those of you with a ticket for Sunday can wish for an Aberdeen win tonight all you like, but be ready with contingency party arrangements, just in case. I know it’s six-in-a-row, I know this isn’t 1998, the towns and villages of Lanarkshire will not be adorned in green and white, but don’t switch your phone on after leaving a cinema tonight to hear than an hour earlier Celtic became Premiership champions, season 2016-17.

Winning the title without watching Celtic play is far from ideal. Winning the title away from Celtic Park has always involved more stress than I thought is absolutely necessary, but I’m as excited today as any of you will be with your match tickets in hand on Sunday morning.

In 10 hours we could be champions again! Get ready for it.

Wee Shay’s Green Army

Lennybhoy and TommyTwistsTommyTurns are looking for volunteers to distribute fliers for Wee Shay’s Green Army Raffle (which will be drawn on Thursday 25th May 2017 at Celtic Park).

They are looking for volunteers to distribute fliers advertising the raffle ahead of the Partick Thistle game at Celtic Park on 5 April. If anyone can help, please email walkwithshay@yahoo.com .

Thank you.

Enjoy yourself tonight, I have a feeling……….

***GOALS FOR SHAY2*** **STILL A FEW HOURS TO ENTER!!**

**** ENTRIES ACCEPTED UNTIL 11:59:59 THIS MORNING ****

Have you heard about our brand new competition, “Goals For Shay 2” which commences THIS WEEKEND?

Simply pick 1 single unique team each week for the remainder of the league season and the entrant with the highest aggregate goals scored will take the top prize (roughly 90% of the total prizepot). And this time, to keep everyone fully involved, there will be a separate prize (about 10% of the total prize money) for the entrant who does best over the final 3 rounds. So even if you get off to a disappointing start, there’ll still be everything to play for as the weeks go on.

The cost of entry is £10 per team entered and this gets you one free joker which, when played, will double your score that week. You can also buy one additional joker for £5.

The prizepot (currently estimated as being almost £600) will consist of 50% of the entry free, with 50% going to support Walk With Shay. All monies from the additional jokers will also go to help Shay.

Really, really simple to take part and all you need to do for now is just register your interest by sending a “can I play please” email to cqnpredictor@gmail.com . If you have a moniker or nickname that we can use to identify you once the competition starts then please tell us that. We’ll get back to THIS MORNING with full details.

And please feel free to tell your family and friends, share on Facebook, involve your work colleagues, etc. We are a competition Open to All.

Thank you for Walking With Shay.

Like Thatcher and May, Davidson makes me reach for the OFF Button on my TV.

At least Thatcher ( as much as I hated her), was intelligent, and knew exactly what she was doing in destroying lives and communities, as for May and Davidson ?….Thicko’s !

Nothing in Scottish football should surprise you!

That April Fools article is closer to the truth than you might believe.

The boy’s dad is a celtic supporter, the other side of the family are not. His mum’s dad wanted him to wear their jersey at least once but he’s definitely for the off and there is once club in Scotland that have been making strong representations to sign him.

It seems likely that we have missed out though although there is a way to go.

I was talking to a scout last weekend (he is in the know on this) about this boy and he was comparing this situation with the young Dembele, it is going to be hard to keep him at Celtic. He was saying both boys have amazing potential at this stage but it remains a gamble whether that will continue over the next number of years.

The player has three decent offers, two from down south.

  23. 50 shades of green on

    Winning Captains.

I knew about the boys family being kind of split in thier support for senior clubs, think thats why I nearly bought it, as you say nothing would surprise me though.

As for young Kaddy, I have a wee bit of inside info on him also, I know he loves it here and has said he wants to stay at Celtic, but I fear as he gets older his head will be turned, would be nice to see him break into the first team before he departs though.

I wasn’t sure the Gilmour story was an April Fool, not at first. The last paragraph tipped me off though.

“Seeing their pride and joy playing in Champions League qualifiers for Celtic will be a bitter pill for Ibrox fans to swallow but that will be cushioned by a massive cash injection coming in from from wealthy Arab owners scheduled for mid July.”

    From The Telegraph.

Brendan Rodgers hails winter break as Celtic’s players ready themselves for finishing line

There will be nor rest for Celtic’s weary players until after their double header against Rangers in the final Old Firm league derby of the season and the William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final at the end of April. The Scottish Premier Football League have revealed that the Scottish Premiership collision between the pair at Ibrox will kick off at noon on Saturday, April 29, six days after the pair meet at Hampden in the cup.

Last Sunday Celtic provided half of the Scotland team who kept the Tartan Army’s hopes of World Cup qualification alive with a dramatic 1-0 win over Slovenia,  a victory which the Hoops manager, Brendan Rodgers, partly attributed to the rest period afforded by the winter shutdown.

“It is an absolute bonus and so important that you have the mid-season break,” Rodgers said. “If there is ever need for a cause for having it that is the proof of it. Imagine we never had that.

“A break won’t be in the next month. We won’t have any rest over that period, but after that we may be able to have a look at it.”

Rodgers will speak to Strachan soon about his squad’s availability

The Parkhead contingent in Gordon Strachan’s squad would all be automatic selections for the vital qualifier against England at Hampden on June 10. Rodgers confirmed that he would discuss their availability with Strachan over the next few weeks.

“There will be some dialogue I am sure,” he said. “I am proud that so many players were in the Scotland team. That is where you want them to be.

They are footballers for a very short period.

“I am not one who is going to stop any player playing for his country. Thankfully, all the Scottish boys here love playing for their country and want to go.

“My responsibility is for Celtic. This is the club that is paying their wages and paying them good wages. I need to make sure that that availability is right for us, but I respect that these guys are international players.

“That is where they should want to go in their careers – to represent their country. If I can help them and assist that on and off the field, I will happily do that. It has been nice for them to get the win, to play with a really good aggression and a really good tempo and energy.”

Of Scott Brown, who retired from international football at the start of the season but returned to play for his country during the qualifiers – and has yet to reveal his intentions in respect of the clash with England – Rodgers said: “We had a good chat, which will be private, and on one or two other things within that, but it’s a big game, this, and it could be a real defining game.

“If he’s played against England away and he’s played against Slovenia it’s difficult not to play in the other ones. It’s about helping him, giving him the confidence that is OK to play in it, but this is how it’s going to look before and after.”

Any temptation to let his players have some immediate time off has been stymied by the relentless timetable of the fixture list.

“We have got Hearts on Sunday and Partick Thistle during the week,” said Rodgers. “Say they played against Partick and then you maybe gave them a rest for Kilmarnock and Ross County, thinking you are doing them a favour. You have then got the Rangers games after that. The timeline is too great.”

Moussa Dembélé was injured against Dundee two weeks ago.

More immediately, wear and tear has deprived Rodgers of his two strikers for the game against Hearts at Tynecastle. Moussa Dembélé was injured against Dundee two weeks ago and Leigh Griffiths suffered a back injury while leading the Scottish line against Slovenia.

“Leigh did well in the Scotland game so getting the wee knock was obviously frustrating for him, but hopefully within the next week he will be back.

“Moussa won’t play at Tynecastle but he should be okay for next week. Towards the end of the Dundee game he struggled. He didn’t think it was anything afterwards but when we got the scan it showed a little tweak of his hamstring.

“He has responded well. He has been fine. He has been out on the pitch, but I am not going to risk it for the weekend.”

In the absence of the two regulars, Scott Sinclair could feature as the Celtic spearhead at Tynecastle. “It is a possibility,” said Rodgers. “When he first came in to me at Chelsea he was a striker. When we took him from Bristol Rovers he was a centre-forward.”

  27. I just logged on for one last wee post as a single man and saw the nice messages above. I’m really touched you all remembered this April fool. Thank you all.
