I’m a bit disappointed RIFC were not in a position to advise their shareholders the results of the votes this morning. Doing so would not have added 10 minutes to proceedings. My expectation is that the board would win both votes, giving them a resounding platform this weekend to sell tickets for lower league football. Perhaps there’s more going on than I thought.
You have to wonder what that expensive legal business in London and Edinburgh yesterday was all about? Many details of Sports Direct’s deal with Newco are public knowledge, and the void of missing details is filled with pretty stark speculation. It struck me that counsel for Sports Direct noted the chronology of the new board being appointed, the subsequent leaks and that Newco had not denied they were the source of the leak. All now on record, in court. Confidentiality is, of course, a condition of the agreement, which could now be argued is in breach. That would be a source of regret. For some.

You have to admire those who work to expose the absurdity of the Offensive Behaviour Act, designed by the SNP government to “equalise” non criminal offenses with criminal offenses. Unfortunately, the campaigners are wasting their time, the Act is here to stay, anyone in doubt should read the news this morning that 80% of people surveyed support it. Ask the average person in the street if they support a law against Offensive Behaviour and they’re hardly likely to say ‘no’. This type of survey is manipulative nonsense. Police with guns on the streets and politically motivated laws are a by-product of blind populism. This is an offensive law and I am horrified.
Robert King is one of the Angola 3, who were incarcerated in solitary confinement in the Louisiana town of that name, and who have become causes célèbres for miscarriage of justice campaigners and prison reformers alike. King spent 30 years in solitary before having his conviction overturned. If you don’t know about the Angola 3, go find out.
He pitched up on CNN yesterday dressed in distinctive attire (below).
My relationship with Celtic is different to King’s. I’m a Celtic fan because that’s the way I was brought up, but I’m pretty sure King’s roots don’t reach back to the Emerald Isle. Chances are, I’d be a Celtic fan whether we were a club with a social mission or not. For others, for King, the reasons they wear a shirt on TV, buy a season ticket, or simply share in our joy on occasion, are different.
We are the club of the underdog, a beacon for the downtrodden, a place where they will find a welcome. No one can plan for this, it either survives over the decades or it doesn’t, so it’s worthwhile telling this part of our story now and again, to set ourselves a core target: Remain the most ethical football club in the world.

Sunderland face the prospect of having to make a cash offer for top defensive target Virgil van Dijk, rather than using Steven Fletcher in part exchange.
The Black Cats have been tracking van Dijk for the last year, with the in-demand centre-half again reiterating his desire to leave Celtic this summer in an interview in his native Holland this week.
Sunderland are expected to confirm by the weekend that Brown has agree a fresh one-year deal with the Black Cats
On the flip side of the coin, Sunderland striker Fletcher has long been a target for Celtic, ever since coming perilously close to joining the SPL champions during his time at Hibernian.
With Sunderland considering selling Fletcher this summer as he approaches the final 12 months of his contract, that has prompted speculation that a swap deal would suit all parties.
Sunderland are indeed thought to have explored that possibility, but it is understood that it would be a problematic transfer to pull off.
Sporting director Lee Congerton managed to swap flop striker Jozy Altidore for Jermain Defoe in January, but there are thought to be far more hurdles to cross in a similar deal involving Fletcher and van Dijk.
Instead, Sunderland may have to spend big if they are to beat off interest from the likes of Southampton, Everton and Arsenal for van Dijk.
Celtic have placed a £10million asking price on van Dijk’s head, despite the 24-year-old’s lack of any Premier League experience.
It is understood they would accept a smaller figure, but Sunderland still face having to pay out more than £6m.
Sunderland are in the market for two new central defenders though, even if Wes Brown has agreed a one-year contract extension to remain at the Stadium of Light.
With Sunderland also interested in re-signing last season’s loanee Sebastian Coates, Brown’s deal raises question marks over Santiago Vergini’s future.
Sunderland are duty-bound to sign Vergini after he made more than 20 appearances last season on loan, yet the £2million move could be called off if another club makes a move
However, van Dijk is clearly someone Sunderland admire after the Black Cats made an enquiry last summer and continued to scout him throughout the campaign.
And after two years at Celtic, the Dutchman has made no secret of his desire to test himself in the Premier League; believing the Scottish side cannot afford to dally over his potential sale this summer.
“Of course the Champions League millions are important for Celtic, but they cannot dismiss any interest,” he told the press in his homeland this week.
“If the correct amount is placed on the table, then they will really think about it, yes.
“If Celtic want to earn money from me, the club must act now.”

Celtic are continuing to pursue defender Zouhair Feddal, who is expected to be on the move from current club Parma this summer.
Feddal has impressed Bhoys boss Ronny Deila, who wants to add to his squad in advance of Celtic’s Champions League qualifying campaign.
He has already signed one defender in the form of Dedryck Boyata from Manchester City, but may lose Virgil van Dijk, who has asked Celtic to consider any offers submitted for him this summer.
According to Italian outlet CalcioNews24, Celtic are continuing to chase Feddal ahead of a potential swoop.
The 26-year-old spent the first half of this season on loan at Palermo before returning to Parma to see out the campaign.
Feddal ended the campaign with 20 appearances in Serie A to his name, along with one appearance in the Coppa Italia.
The centre-back has won seven caps at international level with Morocco and could potentially play in the Champions League group stage next term if he joins Celtic.
