CQN Golf Open knocks it out the park again

1384

We had our 11th annual CQN Charity Golf Open at Aberdour in Fife yesterday and it was another brilliant occasion.  £2000 was raised for good causes, including a local Aberdour need, Tommy Burns’ Charity and the Celtic Foundation.

My thanks to the Joe Miller, who regaled us with tales of Maradona, Jinky and Sugar Roy Aitken.  The buzz he got from playing for Celtic is clear.  The day wouldn’t be possible without Taggsybhoy and BlantyreKev, but it takes an entire crowd to make special nights like this, so thanks to each of you.

This afternoon’s game against Rennes is an important step towards getting the players fully fit but the 90 minutes have to be balanced against the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.  I expect Ronny will ask the players the burn the flame brightly for a short period, before making lots of changes.

    Huddle,

We have generated tens of millions via transfers, CL income etc. We must be able to sign a better player than our new Turkish striker. Some financial folk on here feel that we could safely spend more.

I think what I was trying to say is I can see both sides of the argument with Efe. He’s certainly not a player I’d be looking to offload.

  3. beefy..,

Have you no been watching. If we spend any money at all we will be in £140M debt and go into liquidation, it is the only alternative to not spending, be careful what you wish for, innit.

“Get to your bed” your words to me last weekend, you’ve got a plane to catch the morra in the early hours, hope you (you being plural) have a great holiday and don’t be popping onto “PortoQuickNews” or “SportingQuickNews”

That’s money spent badly not money unspent.

Teams on the continent appear to be able to spend their budget better than us, doesn’t mean that we don’t spend our budget.

If we our hoarding our cash and taking the cheap option then the books don’t show it.

  7. I thought Aberdeen were due a lot of credit for steadying the ship when they were 2-0 down against Rijeka on Thursday. A bit like that nervous evening against Ajax when we lost 1-0 after the wonderful 3-1 victory.

Makes me wonder why Croatia with such a small population turns out so many wonderful players – Prosinecki, Modric, Suker etc.

They must be doing something right that other countries aren’t.

    Thank you.

I was sure that was the case, but when I purchased the ticket, the on-line set-up mentioned “shipping address” ……….that is the same format as last season.

    Thanks again.

All kidding aside have a great holiday and hopefully Ronny will get you a wee Qarabag 0 on Wednesday night, obviously 2-0 or 3-0 would be magic but Qarabag 0 on Wednesday will see big Nadir still playing football before September

Thank you mate, it’s been an unbelievably difficult last 7 months so this is a much needed break! My biggest concern at the moment is whether I’ll get to see the game on Wednesday!

  12. Gerryfaethebrig

Ps if Ronny starts with Ciftci on Wednesday then he’s gambling in a game we can’t afford to gamble in. LG must start on Wednesday.

Good workout for the Celts today.

I think we will get big seasons from GMS and Griffiths.

Thought Janko really looked the part at times and when the lad is up to speed with full fitness I reckon he will make the right back spot his own.

For me the game is up for Scepovic and McGregor.

I am a Griffiths fanatic, a wee guy who just believes he will score every time he gets the ball, a few brows were raised when we signed him and I was a tad worried when Ronny became the manager as I thought Neil would give Leigh the benefit of the doubt if needed, I think Leigh is learning off my favourite hoops wearing player just now Broony, our Scott has the lot, his wee pass for Mulgrew’s goal the other night is far from the first he has gave the opposition the eyes, our captain is a far better footballer than a lot, a lot of people think, some fans will appreciate our captain when he has long since left (hopefully a few good years though) anyway as I have posted I knew heehaw about the “offensive bill” a part from what I read here, signed the petition as soon as I read about it but one of first replies to you was about the ignorance of my friends & family, it’s not until it’s at your own front door that a lot of people will realise, apathy always rules……..

Anyway that’s my last words on that subject tonight and for your own sanity just worry about the result on Wednesday….you are on holiday !

    Take care & Hail Hail

Croatia has the same population as Scotland but does produce a lot of ttalented sports people .

They have quite a tall population and the climate is good for sports. In January , in Istria where we go, it is likely to be 13-15 degrees so it us great to participate in sports all year round.

The children go to sport after school pretty much every day. In our small town of Porec they have a world class indoors sports center. Down at the coast there are many dozen tennis courts and football and hockey fields.

As Hajduk Split went into decline on Dynamo Zagreb is the only large club left so there is a lot if talent to be sourced and the Italian and German clubs are watching the best players .

If Celtic will pay me I will be chief scout in Croatia.

  24. gerryfaethebrig

My feelings on us signing LG were well known on here, however, I never doubted his on field abilities. Currently he looks our most potent striker, it’s a no brainer for me.

Not at all sir I was making my original point in a rather ham fisted way.

I loved Starky when he with us, he just seemed to ooze class, poise and confidence on the ball.

Without standing out in the way that Macca or Miller did in ’87-’88, I think he played a huge part in our success that year.

I’ll have time when I’m away so will try to catch up with the podcast then.

Thanks for the reply about Croatia.

During the Tito era, they used to call the Yugoslavs the Brazilians of Europe.

You mentioned the climate, the height and the sports centres – all good points.

I still think there’s an ‘X’ factor there as well.
