CQN Golf Open knocks it out the park again

1384

We had our 11th annual CQN Charity Golf Open at Aberdour in Fife yesterday and it was another brilliant occasion.  £2000 was raised for good causes, including a local Aberdour need, Tommy Burns’ Charity and the Celtic Foundation.

My thanks to the Joe Miller, who regaled us with tales of Maradona, Jinky and Sugar Roy Aitken.  The buzz he got from playing for Celtic is clear.  The day wouldn’t be possible without Taggsybhoy and BlantyreKev, but it takes an entire crowd to make special nights like this, so thanks to each of you.

This afternoon’s game against Rennes is an important step towards getting the players fully fit but the 90 minutes have to be balanced against the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.  I expect Ronny will ask the players the burn the flame brightly for a short period, before making lots of changes.

  1. Cowiebhoy, Leo Fasan it was. And I have see Joe Thompson a few times and he is doing well.

  2. God bless all the dads who are no longer here, but passed on their love of and passion for Celtic Football Club to us, their offspring.

    They’re up there watching.

    HH!!

  3. Just checked Celtic website, it was Leo Fasan in goals for 2nd half :-)

Winning Captains, Broadwood is available, that would do as 2nd stadium ?

    Hail Hail

This World Cup draw in Russia is like a fun-filled night out with the Politburo (the Glums) – with suits provided by City Cash Tailors.

    ………..

Oh how I laughed at that bud!

  5. Evening all.

Just in from a dreich Glasgow, where I got drenched before the game, to find Largs still drenched in lovely sunshine, as it was when I left it at lunchtime. I’m told it has been all day. Trust me to miss the best part of our best day of the year.

Thought our goals were excellent. Griffiths did very well at the first and GMS put away the opportunity created for him by Armstrong with aplomb.

The second half was a bit of a non-event.

Anybody any idea of the attendance. I thought I was back at Celtic Park when I was a wee bhoy, attending the reserves.

  6. The draw in Russia described elsewhere as “10 minutes entertainment squeezed into 3 hours”.

  7. Great draw for Scotland, just nick the points of the aul enemy and we can go through….. Well done Gordon, best draw we’ve had in years.

  8. Incidentally didn’t like the way Charlie went down then came off in 1st half, hope that is nothing too serious

    Hail Hail

  9. fan-a-tic,

I would agree with most of your assessment. I was worried by the way VvD started but he improved a lot during the game. If he gets out on Wednesday as he did at the beginning of the game (and in Iceland too), we’ll be conceding a goal or two very easily.

  10. How is it England always get the ‘easy’ group? :-)

    Group A is a stonker!

  11. parkheadcumsalford

He could easily have seen a Red in first 2 mins, also went straight through the Rennes striker in our box, as the striker was heading out and away from our goal, very sloppy

Hair dye and black boot polish was much in attendance…………………. plus quite a number of the audience were suffering from the old ‘nodding-dog’ syndrome.

Just drove home in the car praising Bailey, with everyone agreeing. Find out Fasan was in goal. Severely need to pay attention.

Ronny – season two syndrome ?

I love him, he wants a treble, he wants to play wide, he gets it we have to work within a budget, he understands we’re up against it with all the broadfoots around, he’s got a striker problem- LG’s the outstanding player up front – no competition, he knows we’re not in a league where you can buy performance, an injury to vvd and we’ll have a defence problem, he’d love to be in the cl but he’s inexperienced and CL qualification would be a huge achievement for an spl/spfl/dowhatwecantogettheincompentsbackspl team, me (glass half empty person) I’d be over the moon with a treble but then again CL nights would be great for Ronny ahh fupp it – Ronny’s second season – champion’s will do !

You were not alone Packy Bonner on shortbread thought it was bailly and was very complimentary of him, hope Biton and Mulgrew will be ok for Wednesday . H H

But where the ef do they get their numbers from ?

From the BBC – Apols if already posted—

“Rangers could be in trouble with the Scottish Professional Football League due to the behaviour of some of the club’s fans during their win over Hibs.

Three arrests were made after sectarian singing during Saturday’s Scottish Challenge Cup tie at Easter Road Stadium.”

    Give them enough rope……

I think that is the contract he will sign. 3.5 million over 4 years is roughly £16500 a week

I guess if it goes through then Virgil will be offski sooner than imagined.

Does anyone know when John Mensah’s 4 month ban began?

  21. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

My son and I quite enjoyed today’s game.

Our goals were well taken and it was nice to see some of the squad players get a run out in the second half.

I like the look of Joe Thomson, he was willing to receive the ball and had the vision to try some passes which unfortunately didn’t come off.

Janko looked good and made some good runs up our right.

    Fasan’s second save was tremendous.

McLean probably thinks he’s evened things up by not pulling up Virgil for his careless challenge in the first half.

Rennes were neat and tidy with their passing but liked to leave their feet in too often for my liking.

They reminded me a bit of the game we played against Borussia Munchengladbach two or three years ago. They weren’t slow at stopping us any way they could.

  22. Like no other – nah! SFA will send them to the same education course that Broadfoot’s going on. NTSHT

Serious question for all real Celtic supporters – if we don’t do well and go out against Qarabag, and should future seasons see us fall at the qualifying hurdle, before the season really starts – would we not need the Ibrox mob to give meaning and competition to the domestic game?

There are many third and fourth tier European clubs, especially from Eastern and Central Europe, now able to invest much more than we will ever be able to afford.

We can be reasonably confident in the second qualifying round against the likes of Stjarnan, Cliftonville etc – however the third round will now brings us teams like Qarabag, Legia, Maribor, and others, of whom we are at presently unaware.

It is pointless believing, as some do, the gospel of Philmac – the inhabitants of Ibrox will eventually come back to challenge us, probably within two/three years – if we can’t achieve CL qualification, it may well be that domesticity, like the Irish, may be the limit to our ambitions.

I hate to think this, but if we don’t beat Qarabag, very many of our support will feel that the season is over before it even starts – thank God we sell season tickets in June.

This is not being negative, it’s looking seriously at what lies ahead – I hope to God that there is a way out of this Scottish financial conundrum, but just who is going to give a small country of 5 million plus, any better TV settlement than we have know?

  24. Can’t see this one happening:

    FIFA judged Jonathan Mensah,
who has 27 caps for Ghana,
was still under contract to Udinese when he joined the French club four years ago, claiming to be a free agent.

Under FIFA rules he will serve one month of the suspension until the French 2014/15 season ends but the sanction is not spent during the close season.

He will therefore serve the final three months of the ban from the start of his next club’s new season 2015/16.

Means he wont be available till November 2015.

  25. Sandman

If that is the case and Virgil is sold at least we will have been pro.active in finding a replacement and not be relying on Efe or Charlie filling in. H H

  26. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

and I meant to say , great to see Efe with the captain’s armband on in the second half.

He did well today. He has his faults but he is an important member of our squad.

    Efe Ambrose Ballon D’Or

Mensahs ban from 29th April for 4 months , so probably 29th August
