CQN Golf Open knocks it out the park again

1384

We had our 11th annual CQN Charity Golf Open at Aberdour in Fife yesterday and it was another brilliant occasion.  £2000 was raised for good causes, including a local Aberdour need, Tommy Burns’ Charity and the Celtic Foundation.

My thanks to the Joe Miller, who regaled us with tales of Maradona, Jinky and Sugar Roy Aitken.  The buzz he got from playing for Celtic is clear.  The day wouldn’t be possible without Taggsybhoy and BlantyreKev, but it takes an entire crowd to make special nights like this, so thanks to each of you.

This afternoon’s game against Rennes is an important step towards getting the players fully fit but the 90 minutes have to be balanced against the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.  I expect Ronny will ask the players the burn the flame brightly for a short period, before making lots of changes.

Serious question for all real Celtic supporters – if we don’t do well and go out against Qarabag, and should future seasons see us fall at the qualifying hurdle, before the season really starts – would we not need the Ibrox mob to give meaning and competition to the domestic game?

There are many third and fourth tier European clubs, especially from Eastern and Central Europe, now able to invest much more than we will ever be able to afford.

We can be reasonably confident in the second qualifying round against the likes of Stjarnan, Cliftonville etc – however the third round will now brings us teams like Qarabag, Legia, Maribor, and others, of whom we are at presently unaware.

It is pointless believing, as some do, the gospel of Philmac – the inhabitants of Ibrox will eventually come back to challenge us, probably within two/three years – if we can’t achieve CL qualification, it may well be that domesticity, like the Irish, may be the limit to our ambitions.

I hate to think this, but if we don’t beat Qarabag, very many of our support will feel that the season is over before it even starts – thank God we sell season tickets in June.

This is not being negative, it’s looking seriously at what lies ahead – I hope to God that there is a way out of this Scottish financial conundrum, but just who is going to give a small country of 5 million plus, any better TV settlement than we have know?

    __________________________________________________________________

When Rankers are in the top flight we will get a better TV deal, not because Sevco make it more illustrious Competition but, for the simple reason that Scottish Football don’t want a good deal while Rankers are gone. The reason for this is simple, had they sold the rights for a bigger & better package while the Zombies were rotting in the Gallows of the Scottish Football League then, not only would Celtic be so far ahead of those dope cheats but, so would every other club in the top Flight.

When it comes to Renegotiating the TV Deal after the return of Dems, Scottish Football will get a deal worth £30 – £40 million & the new Huns will be lauding as the Savious of Scottish Football.

The rotten TV deals we are getting now, are not because it is all the Broadcasters are willing to pay, but for the simple fact it is all the Powers that be want, to try & make certain the survival of the filth.

Efe will never be our greatest players but his attitude to playing for us is great.

When I ask people I know who get on his back ,how many goals has he actually cost us all they can say is the Rubentus game.

There have been a number of interceptions he has made and his pace helps him recover from his or others’ mistakes.

He’s never in the media moaning or complaining about playing different positions.

Blootering it anywhere is a totally foreign game to Efe and he pretty much always tries to keep possession and also to keep the ball on the deck.

I have often wondered if he has been caught in possession at times because our central midfielders, right back and right winger have not made the effort/been brave enough to give him a teamate to pass to.

Ultimately he is the one that has been caught out at times and he shouldn’t be but i do think he has been let down at times from teamates not wanting the ball.

Efe gets caught out sometimes from a lapse in concentration, but mostly because he ends up being the only centre half left due to Van Dijk bombing forward.

  15. I kind of agree with many of the points being made about big Efe. The fact remains though at times he’s his own worst enemy.

  16. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Gerrybhoy and Thunder Road, Efe has a great attitude when he plays.

I’m told he is also a very popular member of our squad and with management. He doesn’t cause any hassle for the players and management. ,

Thunder Road, he was hung out to dry too often last season when he was playing at right back. All the points you made are valid.

Also, very rarely does a player coming back from playing in the World Cup, the European championshi or African Cup Cup of Nations, bang on form.

    THE EXILED TIM

I agree with you on that but i’m pretty sure if a deal is done then he will be on zero wages for the duration of his ban. Regardless, if it does happen i’m very positive that he will quickly make us all forget about VVD. No Disrespect to Virgil!

  18. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Hamiltontim, today Boyata just blootered the ball out the box a couple of times which is a sign of his defensive instinct. He has shown so far, he knows when to clear his lines when required.

I can understand your point on why you think Efe is his own worst enemy as he tends to play football when a clearance is the better option.

When we beat Dundee Utd in the 2013 semi final at Hampden, he was one of the few players in our team who tried to take the sting out of the game, by holding onto the ball and trying to help us keep possession in the last few minutes of extra time.

Efe is an easy target for many, I love his attitude and came home early after winning the African nations to play for us and made the horrendous mistake that always gets brought up (like I just done) he shouldn’t have been asked to play but the big man put himself up there to be criticised, no complaints from me with that, roll on Qarabag, difficult ties but surely if we expect to be in the CL group stages we should be beating Qarabag,,,, quietly confident

  20. That’s our last 2 home games finished 2-0

Could be worth a £5, er- on Wednesday. Hope so.

I have a feeling that because we play a system where our forwards tackle the opposition defenders this team will have to attack if that makes sense.

Hope we get a +50k crowd and we all play our part. I hate bringing up last season but with the GB being absent from the Maribor game the singing and atmosphere wasn’t special. So I hope we all get it jumping

    Would still sign mcgeadycsc

I attended the Raith v Celtic ( Development squad) on Tues night and I thought Joe Thomson was our best player.

As a matter of interest O’Connell captained the side and although looking calm and self assured in everything he did he is unfortunately a bit slow in the turn and would be crucified against a nippy striker. Janko put in a good shift before being subbed.
