CQN Golf Open knocks it out the park again

1384

We had our 11th annual CQN Charity Golf Open at Aberdour in Fife yesterday and it was another brilliant occasion.  £2000 was raised for good causes, including a local Aberdour need, Tommy Burns’ Charity and the Celtic Foundation.

My thanks to the Joe Miller, who regaled us with tales of Maradona, Jinky and Sugar Roy Aitken.  The buzz he got from playing for Celtic is clear.  The day wouldn’t be possible without Taggsybhoy and BlantyreKev, but it takes an entire crowd to make special nights like this, so thanks to each of you.

This afternoon’s game against Rennes is an important step towards getting the players fully fit but the 90 minutes have to be balanced against the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.  I expect Ronny will ask the players the burn the flame brightly for a short period, before making lots of changes.

I think Shift Key looks to offer us way more than Scepovic. If we can get any fee for Scepovic we should take it

Some great saves from Fasan but his distribution in the few games I have seen him in, is woeful. Janko looked good.

    Clean sheet.

    Win.

    Onwards and upwards.

    Bring on the carrier bags!!!

days like today (KT out, so I have the house to myself to watch the game) …. before my dad passed away a few years ago, we would have spent half an hour after the game chatting about the game …. we would have disagreed as much as agreed on what we saw … games like today, I really miss arguing the with old bugger!

huddle … is that all zaluska was on? I’m not saying you are wrong … I dont know… but I would have thought he would have been earning more than that.

    ———

I’d guess more as well but was trying to limit the waste of money :O)

I have a great idea for limiting money wastage. Stop signing dud forwards. How many millions in fees and wages down the toilet in the last few seasons?

  7. This World Cup draw in Russia is like a fun-filled night out with the Politburo (the Glums) – with suits provided by City Cash Tailors.

Know whàt you mean. My dad died in 1987 and I still expect him to phone after Celtic games. Specially if we get beat when miraculously Celtic would be my team even though he introduced me.

The call would start along the lines of ” what happened to your team today?”. Or ” I see your team got beat”. :-) :-)

oglach … I want them to sign one more dud forward, and then I will go with your plan …. otherwise, I will never get to fulfill my dream of being Celtic’s next number 9! and I promise that I wont be terribly difficult in terms of contract negotiations…. living wage and all the tunnocks cakes I can eat, and I’m ready to sign!

Celtic under 14′s have just won the Foyle Cup here in Derry beating Donegal Schoolboys 2-0 in the final.

Think that’s 17 scored and one conceded.

    50 shades,

Think my son was there. What’s your nephew’s initials?

I was jesting, Arsenal looking great so my money will be on Chelsea and Barca

  12. Gordon-himself

    Efe – decent shift

VVD – good but still loses concentration

    Boyata- same as Virgil

    Mulgrew steady

Forrest- one good run then disappeared

    Brown-great captain

    Biton -sloppy passing

    GMS- very good

    Armstrong -a creator

    Griffiths-very good

    Fasan -excellent

Izzy- started poorly but came on to a good game

    Janko-very good

    O’conned-Composed and good

Thomson- caught out by pace game passed him by

    Rogic-good and assured

    Ciftci-put himself about

    McGregor-good

    Stokes-so so

Scepovic- invisible does not look like he wants to be here

We gave up more chances in 2nd but that was expected with so many changes.

Still created chances which was good to see.

Our off the ball movement in last third has to improve though

There has been no one quite like Henrik for the variety of finishes. Lethal. I always loved it when Henke would slap his left hand with his right hand when he missed. He hated missing any chance.

Others have said that Ciftci seems to anxious to score. He can score goals and he will get opportunities with us to score but needs to find that first goal and some composure.

He still looks short of the fitness level of LG so he needs to work harder on the pitch but relax more in front of goal.

Now that doesn’t seem to make much sense…but I know what I meant.

twotams …. HA! I know that one well…. it was like, when my brother did something well, he was ‘my son’ … but when he did something stupid, he was ‘your brother’ …. fathers, eh? but, as you say, most of us got our love of Celtic from them, so, god bless them.

i miss my Da dearly, he passed away on the operating table during a heart bypass when i was only 23, just watching the Celtic together was magical but we had some big arguments after games discussing the previous 90 minutes….we all see the same game different eh.!!

i thank the lord every day my da was a good living celtic mhan, and brought me up to support the Celtic, i miss him dearly but i’m sure he’s up there looking down and will be smiling at the way Ronny tries to play fitba the Glasgow Celtic Way.

  16. bournesouprecipe on

The day Celtic Park summer friendlies expired?

With the Glasgow fair Celtic support still on holiday for non competitive football, Celtic might revisit the ‘back up’ stadium and definitely the calendar on where, when and how to market coming to see Celtic, when it’s clearly a non event and inconvenience for most jammed in between CL qualifiers.

Nobody could be bothered even though we were getting in ‘free’ and had the chance to see the entire squad over 90 minutes.

Very near Wednesday’s starting side had the result sealed in the first half, and the second half was reduced to some interesting touches from Rogic, and the same old, same old, from the usual fringers.

The never ending Mikael Lustig’s fitness battle aside, before today, and at time up, the Celtic side still virtually picks itself for the CL game. Sadly, the timing of todays game made it the most notable aspect, and putting friendlies on the ST couldn’t even help today’s fair.

M.O.M Leigh Griffiths (for his goal)

speyside … I think most of us on here would say much the same thing …. we argued like mad with him, but miss him more than we would have ever believed possible…. but, like you, I, too, like to think my dad is up there watching the games and smiling.

Speyside …. I better take the dog for a walk, or you’ll have me tearing up as well! been a pleasure chatting pal.

  19. One of my favourite memories was of being at Celtic v Aberdeen game with my dad and we were 1 nil down and equalised in last minute or so . think mcclair got his head to a corner cue my dad jumping about terracing just between jungle and Celtic end until one of Glasgow’s finest– aye right!– says to him” you should know better”

Very sheepish father as we left the ground as I laughed like a drain.

    roy croppie,

Loved your story about Lou Macari’s testimonial, I think I was there but I’m not sure, was definitely at the Rapid Vienna debacle and the FA Youth Cup Final in 1992 but can’t remember being at OT any other times.

    Pleasure to meet you today

Now can I get clarity, I was at the game and was convinced it was Bailley in goals for the 2nd half ? So was it Bailley or Fasan ?

Fan-a-tic, we obviously watch a different game, from where I was, I cannot understand how a professional player like Calum McGregor, can so consistently move out of position, and wander, there was times in the 2nd half he was inside Scepovic, absolutely no game intelligence, sorry

I did like the look of young Joe Thomson, another very comfortable with the ball at his feet
