CQN Golf Open knocks it out the park again

1384

We had our 11th annual CQN Charity Golf Open at Aberdour in Fife yesterday and it was another brilliant occasion.  £2000 was raised for good causes, including a local Aberdour need, Tommy Burns’ Charity and the Celtic Foundation.

My thanks to the Joe Miller, who regaled us with tales of Maradona, Jinky and Sugar Roy Aitken.  The buzz he got from playing for Celtic is clear.  The day wouldn’t be possible without Taggsybhoy and BlantyreKev, but it takes an entire crowd to make special nights like this, so thanks to each of you.

This afternoon’s game against Rennes is an important step towards getting the players fully fit but the 90 minutes have to be balanced against the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.  I expect Ronny will ask the players the burn the flame brightly for a short period, before making lots of changes.

  1. Robin fouled 24 yards out.

    AS wants to take it.

    It’s his birthday it seems.

    Hits it over.

And here was me thinking it was like horses who win on their birthdays and AS would score on his.

    Maybe later.

  2. MiT…

I think you’ll see Cifti and Griffiths both on the pitch, when we’re playing St johnstone of this world… Teams who sit in, in the Scottish Premiership….

You’ll also see Cifti get the nod over Griffiths in European away fixtures, as the sole striker, as he will be expected to hold the ball up when we counter attack.

However at Celtic park, I hope Griffiths will always be first choice striker.

fanatic …. I have been disappointed in Scepovic … I thought we had a real prospect there, …. he was out of the picture, but others have been further out, (LG?), but when they got a chance, they busted their butts, worked hard, and when they got a chance, they seized it … they showed that they wanted it … and the results came for LG …..

But SS doesn’t seem to have the heart you need to get you going when the goals aren’t coming …. too bad, I had high hopes for him… but, you might be right …. maybe time to cut our losses on him.

Hearing about numerous arrests of the free Kirk Broadfoot brigade after the Hibs Sevco game. Apparently Gollum has also noted sectarian ( racist) singing in his match report.

ruggyman … I’d be okay with the sort of rotation you are suggesting .. make sure you have a word with Ronny, then, okay? :)

  6. Well played game.

Fasan , Rogic, Janko , o’Connel and McGregor all played well in second.

Ciftci was himself but the rest of subs not noticable

  7. Good result, good run about for the squad but what, if anything, did RD learn?

Meritorious mentions for Fasan & Brown. 2 good goals and a clean sheet against a decent side which is good for moral but I do not believe Ronny will have learned too much from that.

  8. Ruggyman..

    St.Johnstone…sitting in…?

    Don’t think so.

At least not what I watched last season.

  9. When I see Ronny down in the Merchant city tonight, il have a wee word in his ear.

He can rest easy, the CQN bhoys have it all in hand.

Broonie clattered, Broonie responds. Broonie doesn’t do Friendlies.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

i think a tee shirt… our captain arms outstretched with ‘broonie doesn’t do friendlies’ would be a corker lol

i’m after a bit of advice fholks, its my birthday tmrw and my missus has booked me in for a tattoo (not for another 10 days though)

  11. Team(s) looking sharp and confident.

Everyone knows their roles even those coming on later.

We even had backup in goal.

    Charlie seems comfortable at LB.

    Ciftci reminding me of BBJ

Quietly satisfied with pre season and anticipating a good start to the real season.

An old mentor used to tell me “Well begun. Half done.”

Sunny weekend beckons. Tomatoes need a wee refreshment.

  12. Mike Bhoyle…

The Emphasis is more on the point I was making, not so much the team I chose as an example. They were first to spring to mind…. Feesibly could of mentioned the majority of Scottish Premiership teams.

Just caught the end of Celtic tv broadcast. Did Charlie Mulgrew pick up an injury? Serious or not?

  14. sixtaeseven - Gardez la Foi on

All in all, a good workout – Rennes were decent, but tended to leave the boot in.

    Hope Charlie is OK.

Impressed with Fasan and Janko in 2nd half.

Is Cifti a rough diamond ?

Hard to say, lot of work needed from him and the coaching staff.

    Scepovic still not impressing.

Can’t remember if Jamsie did anything in the 45 while he was on…

Should be contributing a lot more!

I really like the look of the big lhad Saidy Janko & i’m equally impressed by Leo Fasan. Hope we get to see a lot more of them both over the coming few months.

Scepovic, I feel is our equivalent to Diego Forlan (when he was at Man Utd), who will go on to be an excellent Striker for an average European Club. Such a shame.

I thought we played a decent game tonight with no real clangers to speak of, which is surprising, considering Efe played the full 90.

Fingers crossed he is half as good a player as our Celtic dragon was.

ruggy … and when you do, buy him a beer for me. I’ll owe you two when I’m over in September.

  18. Fasan was good today, it’s why I’ll never understand the need to sign backup keepers when you have a certain number 1.

Chelsea have done it many times and all the backup keeper does is waste his career.

Zaluska played what 20odd games for us in 4 years? On maybe £1-2k a week, silly money to be wasting.

  19. If we’re using Tom Boyd quotes about strikers….

He’s also said it took John Hartson a few games to score, and he’s confident that once Ciftci gets the first one in the net, he’ll be fine. He also said that Ciftci should watch the Henke vid to see the sidefooted goals and composure from Henrik.

    The Henke vid was awesome.

huddle … is that all zaluska was on? I’m not saying you are wrong … I dont know… but I would have thought he would have been earning more than that.

    Friendly result? Don’t care.

Cifci needs time. That said, I fear he will be the latest striking dud.

I’m standing waiting on my train at Dalmarnock and have just read your post from earlier. Please reconsider and stay with the blog. If people keep leaving then it will be taken over by trolls.

  24. RWE…

You touch on something interesting…. Being a striker and scoring goals is an art.

And many take different methods… Ur old school strikers, Andy walker, Owen Coyle, Ally MCCoist, they were all good at finding the corners…. They knew without looking where the post’s were..

Then you have guys like Shearer and Batistuta…. Who quite literally blew the net off when the unleashed a shot.

For me, Cifti falls in to the latter category…. What he needs is a goal, which in turn breeds confidence. Thereafter I hope, and look forward to him literally bursting the net.
