CSA will not be alone in boycott call

982

Celtic Quick News fully supports the decision by the Supporters’ Association Executive Committee to ask an Emergency Delegates Meeting to vote on whether to selectively boycott clubs which vote for a Newco to be admitted directly into the SPL next season.

We discussed the idea of a boycott on this basis towards the end of last season.  It appears the only appropriate action if our ‘sport’ can be subjugated for financial ends.

I am sure Celtic fans will not be the only ones considering a boycott.  If Newco gains access to the SPL next season there is likely to be a schism between supporters of clubs who opposed the move and those clubs who vote for Newco, despite the wishes of their own supporters.

Kilmarnock might be able to look forward to lower costs for stewarding and turnstile operators, from their own support as well as others.  Still, they would be able to open more than one stand when Newco visit.

What a great five days Walter Smith had.  His attempts to buy assets from Rangers administrators failed, sigh, but he managed to undermine the guys trying to sell tickets to Ibrox next season, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.  Legned.

Thats good to hear as long as they make a stand against parachute Newco. Maybe that is why it is being parked. The sharing idea is a good one as was the 5 pound ticket ST swap. I would like to see ticketing more family orientated especially towards older fans.

  18. Ghuys,

Since Charlie Endell / Green got the blue light to buy the Shame’s assets has there been anything positive to make you believe that his SPL application will be accepted?

It is not even clear whether the Asset purchase has gone through or indeed is the asset purchase conditional on Sevco being admitted into the SPL. So if Green rocks up on the 4th July and when asked the question “Do you own the ground?” and he responds ….. ” actually , I have a binding commitment to buy it upon your acceptance of my application to the league……..or some statement that he hasn’t actually bought anything yet ..what on earth is he doing at the meeting.

I suspect that the documentation pack that Green must provide to the SPL member will be deemed incomplete by the SPL lawyers and will result in no meeting.

No ground ownership, no players , no bank funding …….. It is not going to happen.

There has been no published deadline on when Green needs to supply the above information to the SPL , I am not sure if this is stated in the rules somewhere but commonsense tells you 5 working days prior to the meeting is not unreasonable, which takes you to Wednesday 27 June 2012 , for green to get his ducks in a row.

Every day is an adventure with these guys, I suspect the deployment of BDO has discouraged any sane individuals with a previous involvement in the Shame of attempting to continue their involvement.

Looking forward to the extra curricula use of the EBT’s , ground valuation trickery (just a coincidence they are listed together), transfer bungs and other yet undisclosed bungs, offshore accounts, and any other nefarious activities that the Shame allegedly got up to.

  19. So, you’re an SPL club thinking about the vote. You read tomorrow’s Mirror.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/rangers-plan-to-buy-an-english-club-904611

Rangers owner Charles Green is putting together an emergency plan to move the Glasgow giants to ENGLAND as he battles for the club’s future. Green has bought the Ibrox outfit and is taking them out of administration, hoping to persuade Ally McCoist to stay on as manager.

But there are huge doubts about whether they will play in the SPL next season, or be forced to drop to the fourth level. And insiders close to the Yorkshireman’s camp reveal that Green is lining up an astonishing bid to buy a lower club in England and take their place in the Football League instead.

Green, formerly chief executive of Sheffield United, would have to clear several hurdles to make the move possible, but he is actively investigating the scheme.

The plan would see Rangers try to climb the divisions in England yet continue to play their home games at Ibrox, their Glasgow HQ – their large support will always follow them over the border.

The Mirror has learned that League One club Bury are in Green’s sights, as they could be bought for a modest sum and present Rangers with a place in English football. Bury chairman Brian Fenton said on Wednesday night: “We have had no contact with Charles Green or Rangers Football Club.” Green and his financial team have , however, been looking at Bury in particular – although the historic move would cause outcry at many levels.

But the rewards for Rangers are great if they can switch to England as they would have a great chance of rebuilding in a new country’s league. Rangers will find out at the start of July if they are to be readmitted to the SPL. Scotland’s top-flight clubs are voting on their fate. If the once-mighty club are snubbed it may speed up their own escape bid and the gloves would come off as they take on the authorities to make it happen

I get really cheesed off with this assertion that, because I’ve had couple of years when because of work situations etc I haven’t been able to attend games regularly that makes me less a Celtic fan and less entitled to an opinion than those who’ve had the good fortune to be able to, and afford to, attend every match.

I’m done explaining, and justifying, that here and elsewhere.

    ———————————————————

    James

Your response is disingenuous and extremely misleading, though it would appear that it has had the desired affect if you were looking for support.

At no point did I refer to the fact that your personal circumstances dictated an inability to afford a season ticket at Parkhead. My point was that anyone who does not attend AWAY games should allow those who do to make the decision whether to continue, free from abuse or pressure from their fellow Tims. As you don’t attend away games (nothing to do with Parkhead) then you should refrain from referring to other Celtic supporters as ‘mugs’.

You clearly have an understanding of the dilemma facing the away support from your own father’s situation. I have a mate who can’t sleep properly due to the concerns he has over the vote on July 4th, if newco are voted in then he ain’t going back. It is torturing him as it would break his heart to stop following Celtic week in and out. He, and the rest of us, deserve better than our fellow supporters suggesting that we are ‘daft’, the choice is difficult enough as it is. Any supporter who has made the effort to support Celtic away from home should therefore be allowed to choose without fear of recriminations from anyone who is not in our situation.

James you implied that I was suggesting that I had more of a right to express an opinion than you because you don’t have a season ticket. With respect that is nonsense and anyone who knows me will tell you that I believe ALL Celtic supporters are equal. My dad was one of the best Tims I’ve ever known but he hardly got to a game in the last 20 years. My best mate, due to financial restrictions similar to your own, has given up his season book for the past 8 years but hopes to get one for this coming season. There isn’t a better Celtic supporter on the planet than him.

I’m not a better Celtic supporter than you or anyone else but I do believe that unless you’re walking in my shoes then you don’t have any right to tell me what to do with regards to following Celtic.
