CSA will not be alone in boycott call

982

Celtic Quick News fully supports the decision by the Supporters’ Association Executive Committee to ask an Emergency Delegates Meeting to vote on whether to selectively boycott clubs which vote for a Newco to be admitted directly into the SPL next season.

We discussed the idea of a boycott on this basis towards the end of last season.  It appears the only appropriate action if our ‘sport’ can be subjugated for financial ends.

I am sure Celtic fans will not be the only ones considering a boycott.  If Newco gains access to the SPL next season there is likely to be a schism between supporters of clubs who opposed the move and those clubs who vote for Newco, despite the wishes of their own supporters.

Kilmarnock might be able to look forward to lower costs for stewarding and turnstile operators, from their own support as well as others.  Still, they would be able to open more than one stand when Newco visit.

What a great five days Walter Smith had.  His attempts to buy assets from Rangers administrators failed, sigh, but he managed to undermine the guys trying to sell tickets to Ibrox next season, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.  Legned.

I heard some trumpt on Radio Scotland yesterday from the Rangers Supporters Association. And I started thinking to myself is it :

Then I remembered – there is no Rangers so I must have just misheard.

  7. Bhoys the CSA, imho, are not bullying anyone. As fans who pay a lot of money to watch football at away grounds they have every right to advocate that they, as a group, may refrain from purchasing tickets from football clubs who have prioritised avarice over sporting and moral integrity. The very same policy that lead us to this juncture. How is that bullying?

Celtic FC allowing a fairer distribution of TV revenue and perhaps sharing the gate receipts generated by the visiting away support is a matter for the Celtic board and the SPL member clubs not the CSA.

Also the debate as to who should decide on a boycott is somewhat moot as I would guess that CSA member clubs are a sizable majority of those who purchase tickets for away games. If they democratically decided that do not want to go to certain grounds who are we to argue? Now if the Celtic board wishes to avoid this perhaps they should discuss what they are doing ‘behind the scenes’ to canvas support for a no vote to a Newco with the CSA.

  13. I think like many on here I’m still amazed at the utter shambolic nature of the Rangers supporters in trying to save their club and I wonder if its more to do with how again the press are highlighting the backers and fans Again a compliant press unwilling to ask the hard and uncomfortable questions and frightened to deamonise the main players. As mentioned before had they hounded the likes of Gordon Smith ,Walter Smith, Murray, Bain, and the like for answers the way they hounded Fergus all those years ago they may have ousted the pretenders at an earlier stage and brought forward an angry cohesive support demanding answers and immediate action. As mentioned before the hostile press in some way contributed to our success I have no doubt that Fergus would have delivered but the nefarious nature of the coverage at the time possible pushed Fergus to a mentality that I will show these bar-stewards but more importantly the fans galvanised to the injustice being published both in the press and governing body.My concern however is that same press is waiting once again to jump down our throats the minute we go public on this. Two very different clubs and supporters with differing approaches

    RFC(IA) hold the SPL Share.

D&P claim to have sold the “club” to Sevco.

RFC(IA) have ceased to be the owner and operator of a Club, therefore they have ceased (under SPL Article 6) to be entitled to hold a Share.

Article 14 tells us that a Qualified Resolution is required to agree who gets RFC(IA)’s share.

A Qualified Resolution required a 21 day notice period for the General Meeting AND must be passed with a 90% majority.

  17. CELTIC Charity Fund, the charitable arm of Celtic Football Club, has once again made a substantial donation to the Glasgow Taxis Outing Fund for Sick Children.

Hoops legend Tom Boyd presented a cheque for £7,000 to fund the trip for 400 deserving kids, bringing to £100,000 the total contribution made by Celtic Charity Fund to the Glasgow Taxis Outing Fund.

One of Glasgow’s best known charities, the Glasgow Taxis Outing Fund, established in 1945, aims to provide a day of excitement and fun for up to 400 children.

The colourful convoy of black cabs left from Glasgow’s West End this morning (Wednesday) and travelled to Troon where the children will enjoy a fun-packed day including a disco, games, street party, packed lunches and sweets.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “Celtic is absolutely delighted to continue its support of the outing to Troon for a 14th successive year.

“The day out is an event which brings so much joy to so many children and the organisers and the taxi drivers involved deserve great credit for all their efforts and for the time and generosity they show all year round.

“Celtic is delighted to again sponsor this year’s event and break the £100,000 barrier in terms of backing this extremely worthwhile charity, now in its 68th year. We hope all involved have a fantastic day.”

Jo Reid of the Glasgow Taxis Outing Fund for Sick Children commented, “We are thrilled that Celtic Charity Fund is continuing its support of our annual outing.

“We are extremely grateful and indebted to Celtic for the support which they have provided over many years.

“Their backing means so much to the children and their families who all look forward to this fantastic day and without their help we could not have delivered so many great events for so many special kids.”

So when is there a right time to bhoycott? We have clubs who will stitch us up but we fear we will look like bullies especially when said clubs own fans aren’t happy about the situation.

The trick here is to invite others to join us and that doesn’t work the CSA only need remind everybody else how much Celtic have lost out on compared to everybody else and ideally a bhoycott lasts for the minimum length of time the huns wouldn’t have been in the league although I’d imagine a season would male the point.

It’s easy to be reactionary but there comes a time to act especially when you’ve had certain chairmen say the only thing that matters is money and if its a mistake to bhoycott I’d like to think at least we stuck together.

  23. Green trying to fight another fire, whilst not realising that behind him the hoose has burned down.

CHARLES GREEN and Ally McCoist will meet with Rangers’ players next week to discuss their futures after the club’s assets were transferred to a new company.

The issue of how that affects the Light Blues squad has not been fully resolved yet and the Ibrox chief executive puts that down to a number of reasons.

He cites the summer break as one along with the fact certain players, such as Carlos Bocanegra, Maurice Edu and Sone Aluko, have been out of the country on international duty.

Green has, however, been liaising with both PFA Scotland and representatives of some individuals since he took officially office last week.

Players are due to start reporting back to Murray Park for fitness training on June 28 and the Yorkshireman plans to have discussions with them and manager McCoist then.

Green said: “From the moment HMRC announced they wouldn’t support the CVA, we contacted the staff and had a meeting with them and the administrator made them aware.

“We as a newco started having discussions and as far as we are concerned, all the contracts transferred under TUPE.

“Of course, the difficulty is some of the players haven’t been around and the likes of Bocanegra have been away on international duty with the USA team.

“They’ve also been having holidays and taking their families away so it has been more difficult with the playing staff than the non-playing staff.

“We’ve been speaking to the PFA though and to individual agents and as the players come back next week, Alistair and I will be sitting down with them and explaining where we are.”

My concern – and it is a BIG concern – with the absolutely blatant and flagrant way in which the SPL’s own rulebook is being subverted is the potential for a legal challenge from ANY of the parties involved in this vote.

In my opinion, if the vote ends in NewCo being rejected it will be challenged in court, and NewCo will almost certainly win. This would not help them, as a proper application of the rules would see them having to secure 11 votes next time, but it would delay the start of the season, throw things into chaos … it could even result in an interdict against the league.

There is the potential here for Green to brandish that as a weapon. And I would not put it past these people to use it.

In my view, whatever way that vote goes, it is wide open to a legal challenge … and I cannot, for the life of me, fathom why Celtic and others are going into that room to take part in it. Surely our legal advice on this must be sound?

  27. Interesting that they mention that the appeal tibunal decision is now back with the SFA. Also, they are here for the long term, but have delayed investment to see if the Cardigan came up with the money to buy them out.

This is better than when Craigy bhoy was in charge.

CHARLES GREEN has called for a united front and insists he and his investors are in for the long haul as he tries to overcome massive hurdles to lead Rangers to a brighter future.

With the Walter Smith-led consortium now out of the picture, the former Sheffield United chief executive is hoping all fans will rally round one cause and that is a successful future for Rangers.

There are massive hurdles ahead for Rangers are they try to achieve SPL status for next season, keep hold of their major players, await the revised SFA sanction after the transfer ban was thrown out and also face up to impeding SPL charges on the use of EBTs.

Green recognises that the Smith consortium bid has stirred the Rangers supporters but he is now calling on all fans to get behind him as he tries to plot a course out of the horrendous situation Rangers find themselves in.

Speaking exclusively to RangersTV he said: “If there was ever a time for a rallying call for all Rangers fans to unite and start driving this club forward again it’s definitely today.

“We are not in here to make a fast buck and disappear. The investors who have come in have seen this as an opportunity to rebuild the club but they see this as a long-term investment.

“We did offer to come to an arrangement with other people (the Walter Smith consortium) but that’s now finished and now we have to focus on moving forward.

“I can assure all fans that my group of people are here for the long term.

“We started from day one with the founders and we said we would go out and seek more cash and that’s where Zeus have come in.

“The finance team are working as we speak but the last 10 days or so have put a slight delay on that because we weren’t sure where Walter Smith was going to join us as a partner or even replace us.

“But now we are clear and we will go ahead with our plans and we will be announcing further investors in the next few weeks.

“For me it’s important that we have unity and move on. While it is a disappointment for Walter and his team at least for the Rangers fans we have clarity.

“Nothing has changed from the statement I made at Murray Park on May 13. We’re here to rescue the club, to turn it round and make sure it is on a sound financial platform.

I had a look at CSA web site to check the context of the CSA statement.

It is in fact a resolution seeking the authority of the members of the association to support a boycott policy.

The comments that follow, although not many, mirror comments here and knowing Celtic supporters penchant for debate the resolution will not necessarily be passed as is.

I can see why the CSA would seek a mandate and there is a bit of sabre rattling in the proposed resolution and the sabre might end up back in its sheath, so lets see if it is passed or amended.

Personally, apart from CSA following their own due process to get their ducks in a row and flying in the right direction, my philosophy on this issue is do not push the river, it is flowing all by itself. (in fact it is rapidly (geddit? :) ) becoming a torrent that will sweep away the forces that put ethics and integrity second.)
