CSA will not be alone in boycott call

982

Celtic Quick News fully supports the decision by the Supporters’ Association Executive Committee to ask an Emergency Delegates Meeting to vote on whether to selectively boycott clubs which vote for a Newco to be admitted directly into the SPL next season.

We discussed the idea of a boycott on this basis towards the end of last season.  It appears the only appropriate action if our ‘sport’ can be subjugated for financial ends.

I am sure Celtic fans will not be the only ones considering a boycott.  If Newco gains access to the SPL next season there is likely to be a schism between supporters of clubs who opposed the move and those clubs who vote for Newco, despite the wishes of their own supporters.

Kilmarnock might be able to look forward to lower costs for stewarding and turnstile operators, from their own support as well as others.  Still, they would be able to open more than one stand when Newco visit.

What a great five days Walter Smith had.  His attempts to buy assets from Rangers administrators failed, sigh, but he managed to undermine the guys trying to sell tickets to Ibrox next season, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.  Legned.

Still think it will play better if we describe it as positively supporting clubs who vote FOR SPORTING INTEGRITY and what we can offer them rather than looking like an OF equivalent of the RFFF.

The moral high ground seems to be a better place to occupy than the bear pit.

Nobody’s asked you if they can get a game yet, so can I be first.

Ever since I was a wee boy, and my parents got me a Club 12 tap, it’s been a dream to pull on the first team jersey and trot out in front of those magnificent fans. Plus, I can get the 18 up to East Kilbride. At the tender age of 40-something, I have (all but) given up on all hope of pulling on the hoops at Celtic Park – so the next best thing is to play against Celtic and score a bundle of ogs (sorry, play to the best of my ability). I am also not very good, which will see me ‘ripped a new wan’ by any Celtic player. I don’t know what that means, but at my age, I could probably benefit from a ‘new wan’, whatever it is. Back to the point, I am also, as several previous employers will attest, and I’m glad this isn’t public, not averse to a tax-avoidance off-shore kinda scheme. I don’t have an agent, but for these purposes, I do, and you can speak with my ‘advisor’. I can also ‘pick up a strain’ at any point that would see you not have to pay me.

    Where do I sign?

From ACAS on TUPE. Transfer of Under takings (Protection of Emplyment Regulations)

If you were employed immediately before the transfer (or if you would have been had you not been unfairly dismissed for a reason conected with the transfer) you AUTOMTICALLY become an employee of the new emplyer, UNLESS YOU OBJECT TO BEING TRANSFERRED AND INFORM EITHER EMPLOYER. Your continuity of contract is not broken and you keep all the rights and obligations under your contract of employment with your previous employer.

The latter would include whatever deal players made with D&E in return for a wage reduction.

So either Green square the “making a profit ” circle with retaining high waged players or they are off.

A club who loses it best (in relative terms) professionals could struggle to avoid relegation, what do the SPL do then? Restructure next season?

  14. God…..I hate to admit this : I own a cardigan. Can I be Club 12’s financial wizard?

Most of you im sure will know a bit about my wee bhoy, Oscar, who has been fighting Neuroblastoma for nearly 9 months now. Many of you will have been following closely through his blog or on Twitter. Well, today sees the launch of the ‘Oscar Knox Appeal’ which, like other neuroblastoma kids before him, aims to raise much needed funds for vital treatment abroad.

    First, Auldheid:

Thanks for pointing us in the direction of Paul’s latest splendid article. As it makes clear, for NewCo to even get their vote a number of criteria has to be satisfied, and I am totally at a loss to see how it can be. The deadline for audited accounts (already extended) has expired … right now they aren’t liable to hold even the most basic license as laid down by the SFA, SPL, UEFA or FIFA.

They have a mountain of work to do before July 4, and, frankly, I don’t see it can be done in time for that date.

No matter. I am sure rules will be bent to assure they get their ballot.

    As to the boycott ….

I think the CSA has done the right thing, at the right time. The sporting integrity of our game will be shot – utterly, and forever – should these clubs vote NewCo right into this league. It will no longer a sport, but a corrupt circus.

Frankly, any Celtic supporter who chooses to visit an away ground who’s directors have voted for this is a mug. They will be lending support, and finance, to the people who have destroyed the game in Scotland.

The Association stamp on it makes it official, but I suspect a great, great, great many Celtic fans were already fully intending to vote with their feet in any case.

The clubs who are considering this abomination are putting commercial interests first, front and centre. I have yet to hear any argument which convinces me that we should not wield the weapon of withdrawal of our financial support for these clubs in the face of that. It is not only the right thing to do, it is the ONLY thing we can do, and I am delighted we have done it.

The decision is clear; they have money from the NewCo club’s fans, or they can have money from our fans. They cannot have both. They can act with integrity and in the best interests of the sport … or they can pay the price.

I don’t think this is in any way unreasonable, and is in keeping with almost every post I have read on this site in the last few months.

Someone just told me The Late Mr Smith is showing signs of amnesia – and not through forgetting liquidation deadlines either.

Seems like he asked a certain Yorkshireman if he could help to identify him.

He was apparently given the short-shrift and asked where he had been during the last 12 weeks … which is a bit unfair given The Late Mr Smith had already asked if someone knew who he was…
