CSA will not be alone in boycott call

982

Celtic Quick News fully supports the decision by the Supporters’ Association Executive Committee to ask an Emergency Delegates Meeting to vote on whether to selectively boycott clubs which vote for a Newco to be admitted directly into the SPL next season.

We discussed the idea of a boycott on this basis towards the end of last season.  It appears the only appropriate action if our ‘sport’ can be subjugated for financial ends.

I am sure Celtic fans will not be the only ones considering a boycott.  If Newco gains access to the SPL next season there is likely to be a schism between supporters of clubs who opposed the move and those clubs who vote for Newco, despite the wishes of their own supporters.

Kilmarnock might be able to look forward to lower costs for stewarding and turnstile operators, from their own support as well as others.  Still, they would be able to open more than one stand when Newco visit.

What a great five days Walter Smith had.  His attempts to buy assets from Rangers administrators failed, sigh, but he managed to undermine the guys trying to sell tickets to Ibrox next season, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.  Legned.

I was thinking of doing some pointless scouting in Italy and Spain coming up with the names of football aces that Club12 could never afford but which we can feed out to the fans when renewing their season books

Only need a grand or so a day to cover expenses – that ok with you?

  2. The begging bowl out now…

CHARLES GREEN understands why Rangers fans are reluctant to renew their season tickets at a time when the club’s SPL status is under threat.

And he knows he will have to work hard to gain the supporters’ trust given the turmoil they have endured since February 14 when the Light Blues entered administration under previous owner Craig Whyte.

But speaking to RangersTV.tv at Ibrox today the new Chief Executive urged season ticket holders to make decisions ‘based on their conscience and what they feel is right for the club.’

Green, of course, is as frustrated as anyone about the uncertainty surrounding the 2012/13 campaign but the Yorkshireman has reiterated that any money brought in from renewals will be ring fenced in a secure account.

He said: “We said in the letter that went out for renewals that any season ticket money we receive will be put in a specific account and it will be ring fenced, that is exactly where we are.

“That catered for a number of contingencies, not least of which was that in the event that we weren’t playing football in any league, because one of the options still open to the SFA with the appellate trial is that we could have our license withdrawn or removed completely.

“It would be improper and unfair for us to receive money when we can’t deliver a product.

“So that protection is still there but what I would say to fans is that we will, in my view, be playing football in Scotland.

“I can’t say what league or division at this stage which is really unfortunate, but there is full protection there and as things unfold over the next few weeks we’ll be able to come back to season ticket holders.

“I’ve met fans personally outside the stadium and people have also emailed and written to me.

“They’ve been saying they’ve taken up their season tickets while there are obviously people saying they’re not taking up their season tickets too and we understand that.

“This issue of trust is not something which will be overcome overnight.

“The fans of this club were let down by the previous owner and, to some extent, the owner before him.

“We never expected that would be forgotten overnight and for us, it’s about repairing that trust and it’s a long-term thing.

“We are here for the long term and I don’t expect it to be an overnight success. Fans have to make decisions based on their conscience and what they think is right for the club.

“What I can tell them is that money is protected and it’s in an account which will not be used until I can sit in front of you and tell you where we’re playing and what league we’ll to be in.”

I noticed in one of your posts that you lived just over the border would that me a CA post code or further South?

  4. “So that protection is still there but what I would say to fans is that we will, in my view, be playing football in Scotland.”

From the guy who was convinced the CVA would be accepted. He does not mention which league right enough.

    lol!

Any auld hauns remember a Celtic Morton league game at CP in May 1969 just after we had gubbed the Huns 4 -0 in the SCF to win our 2nd treble.. I remember it was a Friday night ? and we paraded the 3 trophies and then got pumped 4-1 by a very good Morton side.

    —————————————————————————————————–

It wasn’t a treble it was an unprecdented quarduple as we also paraded the Glasgow Cup. Table on the pitch – 4 trophies pumped – cried walking back to the car.

    Arty:

That comment from me is harsh, but I stand by it, and it won’t change. My old man has followed Celtic from one end of this country to the other, for longer than I have been alive, and he is adamant that he will not set foot in the ground of any team which supports the NewCo application … and I believe him. He came within an ace of not renewing his season ticket – a decision of monumental significance for that man – and only relented when the Green Brigade did, believing, as many do, that they would only have done so after hearing something which assuaged their fears about Celtic’s stand on this.

My own money is still in the bank, and there it will stay until I know what I’m being asked to pay for. The decision to buy a season ticket for Parkhead or not might prove to be a soul-crushing one … I hoping not to have to find out. But the decision as to whether or not to ever visit another ground in Scotland outside Celtic Park is the easiest choice I’ve ever had to make in my life.

If a NewCo club in blue jerseys, playing out of Ibrox, is in the SPL next season I am done with the rest of Scottish football, now and forever. I will never set foot in ANY away ground again, regardless of where their vote went. I will never purchase a ticket for a Scottish Cup or League Cup match again either, as I will not support the institution that is the SFA, for allowing it to come to this.

I will not support a basic corruption and subversion of the rules so gross, so stark, that it will make Scottish football a laughing stock forevermore. The reputation of our national sport will never recover from the damage and many clubs will never be the same again. The link between fans and clubs will have been broken, probably forevermore. If you are a parent who stops going, your kids will too. The lure of the English game will see them in Liverpool or Arsenal or Man City shirts instead. Generations will fall away, never to return.

The game dies, one day at a time. That’s the reality of this situation, and the SFA and SPL have already pushed it to the point where real damage has already been done, and more is done with every revelation that comes out.

In other countries they are looking at our league, our whole national game, in utter disbelief, and in England the pundits talking about the league “needing both clubs” do so with barely concealed contempt in their voices, with eyes which gleam amusement and faces which cannot hide the sniggers. They believe our league is a joke, so dependent on two (one) clubs that it cannot do the right thing, the ONLY rational thing to do, by annihilating the one which has disgraced the game.

A demonstration that our game is clean would be a beam of light right across football. This is not Italian footballing losing a Juventus here. Juventus left behind Lazio, Roma, the Milan clubs …. this would be an almost suicidally (in neutrals eyes) gallant demonstration that the game comes first … and it would make our country one of the most respected in the game.

Or we can be a joke. We can formalise and legitimise the disgrace, and in that case I don’t want to know, and many, many, many thousands of fans, from across the game, will react the same way.

I am appalled we are even still discussing it. The sins of this club would have destroyed any other five, six, ten times over.

  8. VertWolf

Speak to the Co-Sec The Pantaloon Duck. He’ll deal with all expenses queries but make sure its tax deductible but scouting in Italy and Spain would be pretty pointless now as all top players are in Poland and the Ukraine.

Change flights to there and make sure and stay at the top hotels and get yourself a nice tailored Italian suit. We want to be seen to be making a good first impression.

Keep in contact. These fabricated stories about how many players we are going to sign aren’t going to write themselves.
