Dedryck strolls past England

1089

Hot on the heels of a former Celtic player becoming the most expensive defender in transfer history, we watched Dedryck Boyata stroll through Belgium’s win against England last night.  I would be more animated on this subject if he was secured on a five year contract, but as he his current deal only has one year to go, such a high profile performance could reduce our options for the player.

How many of you thought we would be in this situation after the Ibrox game in March?  That day Brendan Rodgers said there was better to come from Dedryck.  He is still not the finished article, but he’s a key cog in a team who fancy their chances in Russia.

Stiliyan Petrov match worn Champions League shirt raffle

We have a very special raffle, which ends this afternoon! The shirt Stiliyan Petrov wore in Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Bayern Munich during our 2003 Champions League campaign is available. You can buy a ticket for £1 here on ebay.  Stan signed the shirt.

All proceeds go to the Stiliyan Petrov Foundation to aid research into leukaemia and cancer treatments.  Stiliyan’s recover from leukaemia shows us just how far treatments have come, but as our own CQN community knows too well, more progress is needed.  The draw will be made at Woodside Hotel, Aberdour, where the 14th annual CQN Open Golf Day is now underway.

Hope to see you later.

  5. Did Brendan just put an actual price tag on KT? £25 mill in todays crazy transfer market isn’t that much. Growing a wee bit concerned on the, apparent, lack of transfer activity. 1st team Players leaving with potentially more to follow and with the opening rounds of the CL qualifiers not too far off we have hardly strengthened. Net spend thus far probably equates to hee-haw with the French Eddies transfer being covered by VVD’s bonus and SA’s transfer fee

Brendan can we please try and bring Paddy back?

  6. KT to Everton for £25 million?!

    Aye, right!

  9. Far better teams than Everton will pay a lot more than £25m for KT. The current story looks like a kite being flown by his agent to generate interest in him. Expect Man U and Spurs links in the coming weeks.

    Morning Tims…..

I see TROONCELT has been on the sauce again ….:-)

25m for KT is a decent price imho, what game do they want him for….

    World cup begins today, ??????

  16. Kieran Tierney is a very rare breed. A dyed in the wool supporter, who just happens to a brilliant player. Football memories are made by football heroes. KT is a true hero to us Celtic fans.

Give us £100M and we still couldn’t replace him. He’s not for sale, at any price.

  17. Morning all.

I gather our manager has been speaking about KT. I have enough trust in him that he wouldn’t be saying anything to the detriment of either KT or Celtic.

All I hope is that if KT really does leave us (and I have been a fan since his debut) is that we get what he’s really worth, which is a great deal more than 25 million.

In the same vein. I am increasingly concerned that we will lose DB too now. Here’s hoping there’s a bidding war from a lot more clubs than just Lazio. As I said a couple of days ago, playing for Belgium has given him the confidence he sometimes lacks and, hopefully, his concentration too. He’s another I would rather we kept. But he’s not a supporter like KT. So, I guess he’ll be off.

  18. WITS

  19. OK,are Brendans comments on the alleged bid from Everton,or just the standard answer to the usual stories.Even on here, and other blogs, its as if he is responding to this story in a different manner.

If the unthinkable happened,I would want a lot more than the price quoted.

I would have thought KT would want to stay for at least the 10.

Can never imagine,or want to think about him leaving.

Carry on looking Jimmy. It does you a power of good.I have the same problem every day here with staying at the beach.God made some wonderful creatures. They should be admired.

  20. Having read what Brendan said re KT, I have no worries. He simply spoke the truth ( In response, I assume , to a question where the reporter was hoping for an answer allowing sensationalist reporting) re our Club ie every player has his price.Regardless, I don`t see KT going anywhere soon.

There is absolutely not a doubt that Celtic are going to sell Kieran Tierney and soon. The kid probably sees the writing on the wall too. What writing on the wall ? Easy, “that the Rangers are coming” as they add real quality on and off the park.

When you add we are on a downward trajectory (Invincible Treble winners two seasons ago; but last season Treble scraping it). You can see why Stuart Armstrong and now KT could be baling.

When are Celtic going to match the signings over the southside ? There’s hardly anything that I can see no headlines of major coups, jetting in or even a story about players being dough eyed at the wonder of STEVEN GERRARD.

The guys in the Teddy Bears dressing room must be dazzled and still wondering who are the not so bright ones after Stevie told the throngs “A lot of them are bright and a lot of them have taken it on-board quicker than others”.

Here’s a pic of the Ragers player pondering this:

    https://cdn.videocelts.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/2018-04-15T145406Z_1816461888_RC1193F5D840_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-SCOTLAND-CEL-RFC-800×504.jpg

C’mon Celtic dispense with the World -cup players (who’ll be tired) and sign up a good solid, centre back. That’ll save us from CL humiliation again.

  23. BCW

What about McGregor? He has been earning some rave reviews of late. That is usually a MSSM precursor to articles about his impending departure.

Anyway, my own departure is also impending and I must depart now to make my way down to the Bon Accord in the Dear green Place.

Cheerio for now to most and see you soon to others.

  24. MAHE

Messi’s “good” goal described differently by others without your strange antipathy to the wee genius.

    BBC: “Lionel Messi’s fantastic strike. . . ”

Independent: “3 magical touches. . . . Sublime goal. . . 3 touch masterpiece of timing, speed and technical precision”

    The Telegraph: “a brilliant goal”.

Liam Brady: “Up there with the best goals he’s ever scored” (over 600, of course, to choose from).

And if neither Cruyff nor Messi are “in the conversation”, I think you’ll be struggling to be taken seriously, despite your elevation of the Euros and Copa America in importance to suit your CR7 agenda.

Remember Greece, and a sand-covered Denmark winning that fairly recently.

John Jensen in the conversation then?

(I remember him, as I had him at 25-1 to score the first goal. Not an entirely “law of averages” punt. He’d never scored an international goal, but had hit the post against Engerlund earlier in the tournament.)

A wee piece of useless trivia re the KT to Everton nonsense!

Everton’s Goodison Park was the first purpose built football stadium

their very own basic football ground at Celtic Park, Glasgow.
