Defence need to play-up for their keeper

812

First the treble then the double slipped through the net leaving Celtic absolute certainties for the inaugural Scottish Premiership title, but with only a couple of higher aspirations to aim for.  Fraser Forster is closing in on Bobby Clark’s Aberdeen league shut out record, which if he keeps a clean sheet at home to St Johnstone on Sunday, he would be able to eclipse 31 minutes into the visit to Tynecastle on 22 February.

Neil Lennon called Saturday’s defeat unacceptable but it would be just as unacceptable to concede to St Johnstone at home this weekend when so close to an all-time record.    Saints have scored only one league goal away from home (at Firhill) since winning at Tynecastle on 2 November last year.  Notwithstanding their four Cup goals at Forfar on Saturday, you could not wish for a more goal-shy league visitors.

The manager was rightly critical of his defence on Saturday so will hopefully use this weekend to ensure they are ready to play up for their goalkeeper this Sunday.

One of the highlights for the Celtic community last year was the incredible Ben Nevis Huddle, completed on the snow-capped mountain in June. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, 28 June. Applications opened on Friday and there are only 77 places left (big mountain but limited safe standing capacity). Go here if you want to get involved.

  1. Gus Hiddink……yer hivin a laugh…….might be good in European ties …but the SPHelll…..talk sense…….you could bring Guardiola here and he wouldn’t have a clue……the only replacement for Lenny would be someone better who has SPHell experience (and there’s none) to first of all win our shitty league …..then….perform in Europe

Hiddink? Only if the multi-multi-millionaire has a fond place in his heart for Celtic

A MULTI MILLIONAIRE DID CARE ENOUGH TO PULL THE PLUG ON HIDDINK YEARS AGO. THE PREFERRED CHOICE BLOW THEM OUT THE WATER AND THE REST IS HISTORY. IF YOU KNOW YOUR HISTORY.

  7. The club won’t get rid of Lenny, he may decide for the good of his family that a move is best all round, I hope not, but don’t have a clue how he feels re his family life.

Till then, he is our manager, and imo shouldn’t entertain any thoughts about replacing him.

  9. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

If Neil Lennon leaves Celtic due to treatment received, then we have the potential to become an unmanageable club.

All the combined anti Celtic forces would have to do is employ similar tactics that have created the conditions that Neil has endured, which will discourage future incumbents.

There is also a school of thought on here that he should remain at CP for as long as he wants, which,in effect, renders him unsackable.

  10. Guus Hiddink is currently coaching Anzhi in Russia.

Earning about 7 million a year.

Fabio Cappello is the coach of the Russia national side.

    Earning even more I believe.

Btw, they are both pensioners in their late 60s.

    …and multi-millionaires.

  14. I’m just glad Neil doesn’t use twitter or read blogs anymore.

Who needs the MSM when our fans put the boot in to the gaffer.

So much for faithful through and through eh.

What would I prefer cups or titles hmmm easy choice for me 10 IAR here we go.

Ask yourself this little ? Why do you think the MSM want Neil out ?

  15. Paul, your articles are normally a very good read and I usually agree with what you write, BUT I’m sorry, your article today smacks of deflection from the truth of a poor season. Knocked out of both domestic cups at home. Unfortunately, I have to lay the blame for Saturday at our manager’s door. Neil got our formation very wrong and that simple error was compounded by his inability to recognise that error and change it during the whole game. As a result, this put ridiculous pressure on our 2 man midfield, as they were hopefully outnumbered, so we’re overpowered by Willo Flood and Barry Robson for God’s sake! This in turn meant they couldn’t protect to our defence, and allowed them to be so very exposed. This has happened before eg Ajax in Dam with same outcome. With the resources we have the return in terms of trophies this season is very well. Most fans I think will find any shut out record or unbeaten season very hollow when we’re watching someone else lift the Scottish Cup at Celtic Park. Of course there is a nightmare scenario that is too scary to even contemplate…..so forgive me if I don’t get carried away with shut outs or unbeaten runs, Paul.

Gus Hiddink resigned from Anzhi Makhachkala coach post on July 22, 2013. Anzhi Board accepted his resignation.

On January 15, 2014 he was appointed South Korea coach assistant.

  20. kevtic,

That may be true but then Hiddink got a job with PSV and then took them to 2 CL semi finals during MON tenure. Hiddink would have been a great move for us back then till DD stopped it and gave the job to Martin.

I for one was gutted. Yes MON gave us great times, but European wise Hiddink may have just took us that bit further in the CL in those days especially with the money we were spending at the time.

  21. Alex Rae- another member of the illiterate failed managers club getting the brogues polished for a gig on Snyde now to tell Lenny how to do his job?

Horrible horrible man, saw him up at Lennoxtown a couple of years ago at a Celtic v Dundee U-19 cup tie talking to the legend that is Daniel Fergus.

Rae has the most horrible disgusting spitting habit, every 10 secs, gob, gob, turned my stomach. Danny, the gent that he is gave him the time of day, God knows why.
