Defence need to play-up for their keeper

812

First the treble then the double slipped through the net leaving Celtic absolute certainties for the inaugural Scottish Premiership title, but with only a couple of higher aspirations to aim for.  Fraser Forster is closing in on Bobby Clark’s Aberdeen league shut out record, which if he keeps a clean sheet at home to St Johnstone on Sunday, he would be able to eclipse 31 minutes into the visit to Tynecastle on 22 February.

Neil Lennon called Saturday’s defeat unacceptable but it would be just as unacceptable to concede to St Johnstone at home this weekend when so close to an all-time record.    Saints have scored only one league goal away from home (at Firhill) since winning at Tynecastle on 2 November last year.  Notwithstanding their four Cup goals at Forfar on Saturday, you could not wish for a more goal-shy league visitors.

The manager was rightly critical of his defence on Saturday so will hopefully use this weekend to ensure they are ready to play up for their goalkeeper this Sunday.

One of the highlights for the Celtic community last year was the incredible Ben Nevis Huddle, completed on the snow-capped mountain in June. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, 28 June. Applications opened on Friday and there are only 77 places left (big mountain but limited safe standing capacity). Go here if you want to get involved.

  1. Ghents, for the CQteN Dream Team, please email your selections to this address, they won’t be counted otherwise.

    doccqten@gmail.com

    CRC’s full post from earlier.

    “CQteN Dream Team”

Now is your chance to select your CQteN dream from the last decade

    Rules are very simple:

Select 11 players from the list below, forming either a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 formation

    So you will need:

    1 goalkeeper

    2 full backs

    2 centre backs

    3 or 4 midfielders

    2 or 3 forwards

    and of course….

    1 manager.

Each player on the list below has made at least 10 starting appearances from July 2004 to date during the CQteN decade.

    So no Henrik, then!

When you are selecting the players, you should ideally base your selection on their performances during the CQteN decade, but then again that is your choice.

Send your selection to us by email to doccqten@gmail.com with your CQN blog name (if you do not have one, then you need to get thinking as well)

Anybody can enter: bloggers, lurkers, friends and family, but you can only enter ONCE.

The closing date for entries is 3pm Sunday 9th March 2014

The CQteN dream team will be announced at the CQteN night on Friday 14th March and there will be a couple of prizes for the closest teams selected to the winning team.

Over the coming weeks, to assist you in your selection, we will select a category and list the players relevant appearances and goals. So watch out for these on CQN.

    Good luck and get selecting.

If you are reading I saw on my mobile you asked for an update on Res 12 this morning.

This one from the weekend in response to another enquiry slightly amended covers it.

Celtic chased up the requisitioners for a meeting after the last one on which everyone was updated generally or individually if they wanted detail and there is tons of that which had to be read in order to get to where things stand.

There is a further meeting at end of Feb when canalamar is in the UK.

It could have been earlier with his consent but given he was due back it seemed right to delay.

One of the problems that causes folk to get upset is that Celtic like to operate under the radar.

Their cooperation is needed to see this through and whilst it is understandable folk want to know what is happening that has to be balanced against getting a result that resolves the issue.

Nature does abhor a vacuum and because Celtic operate under the radar (and why is an issue that should be examined as it damages communication ) it causes folk to give their own meaning to the silence and that is not necessarily a true reflection of events.

Two examples. On Res12 it only came out after it reached the agenda that Celtic had written to the SFA in Dec 2011. That had never been said before but if it had then claims that Celtic were not tackling the SFA could not be made. I think they could tackle harder but the point is they did ask questions but kept quiet.

On the OBB the response to the Open Meeting showed that Celtic wrote to the FM in April to be involved in the review of the legislation and the CEO had met the relevant Minister twice in June and Oct 2013 to present their and supporters concerns. Perhaps they will be accused of not doing enough, but the fact that they did act in 2013,even if unsuccessful in trying to get an earlier review again removes any argument that they are unaware of feelings and questions the strength of the one that they are complicit. The full response will I understand go on the CST web site.

Why the policy of under the radar operating exists is one that needs examined. Celtic must see some benefit in it but at what emotional cost?

The main cost is the lack of trust that results because of non-communication. That is not the policy on the part of the Res12 requistitioners but it is one that has to be observed to see matters through and whilst folk might not trust Celtic the requistitioners need to trust them and we in turn need to be trusted by the shareholders who signed up that we are our own men.

    Auldheid,

I, for one, trust in the bone fides of yourself and Canamalar et al, in this matter.

There is no way that the overseas requisitioner would remain silent in the face of a cover up or derailment.

That Celtic prefer to work under the radar in this matter is prudent, given the environment.

I believe that the collective support give them the breathing space required for this action to run it ‘s course.

As for the other bones of contention between groups and the club, I wish that they too could be deferred until the real enemy of the Game is dealt with, i.e., the SFA.

To this end, I would like to see the supporters groups engaging with their peers at other clubs, to form an alliance against the games authorities.

The initiative of the Aberdeen lads with their Scots Fans4Change campaign should be fully embraced.

Sort out the game first, then deal with club issues.

2012 showed that it was only by the fans actions that the Plan was thwarted.

    =================

The process is the SFA notify UEFA in April of possibility a club might apply under Article 15.

That is when UEFA will kill it if the applicant is The Rangers but not if it is Albion Rovers who might still be in the cup by then.

If UEFA do not kill it at that point using Art 12 as the reason then they totally undermine Art 12. They have already refused an application from the resurrected Derry on those grounds so would have to go against that precedent also. So no chance.

Albion Rovers however are not subject to Art 12 so could apply if they win the SC and get approval.
