Defence need to play-up for their keeper

812

First the treble then the double slipped through the net leaving Celtic absolute certainties for the inaugural Scottish Premiership title, but with only a couple of higher aspirations to aim for.  Fraser Forster is closing in on Bobby Clark’s Aberdeen league shut out record, which if he keeps a clean sheet at home to St Johnstone on Sunday, he would be able to eclipse 31 minutes into the visit to Tynecastle on 22 February.

Neil Lennon called Saturday’s defeat unacceptable but it would be just as unacceptable to concede to St Johnstone at home this weekend when so close to an all-time record.    Saints have scored only one league goal away from home (at Firhill) since winning at Tynecastle on 2 November last year.  Notwithstanding their four Cup goals at Forfar on Saturday, you could not wish for a more goal-shy league visitors.

The manager was rightly critical of his defence on Saturday so will hopefully use this weekend to ensure they are ready to play up for their goalkeeper this Sunday.

One of the highlights for the Celtic community last year was the incredible Ben Nevis Huddle, completed on the snow-capped mountain in June. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, 28 June. Applications opened on Friday and there are only 77 places left (big mountain but limited safe standing capacity). Go here if you want to get involved.

  2. TET, we will collate the results and those most voted for each position will be in the team.

One Goalie, One left back, one right back, top two CBs, and so on.

You can pick three midfielders if you want three strikers.

    It’s up to you.

67Hamilton, you confuse pride in being a Celtic supporter with disappointment in and criticism of poor performance. I can and will criticise the team and the manager when I feel it is merited. That means just that, it does not mean I throw away my scarf and tear up my season ticket and vow never to go back. I’ll be there next week as I was the week before the Aberdeen game. That’s because I’m a Celtic supporter. However, much as I detest what NFL has had to endure in Scotland, that does not mean that he is beyond criticism as a football manager. Celtic have had many embarrassing results in their history, Morton this season is just the latest. I’m afraid i don’t go for blind loyalty. To deny what you see is delusional. However, don’t suggest my disappointment at embarrassing results now and again means I’m embarrassed at being a Celtic supporter. That is not at all what I said, is untrue, so pls do not misrepresent what I say again. For the record, the fact I am unhappy about aspects of this season does not mean I want NFL sacked, it does not make me a Hun lurker, and it does not make me a Fergus booer (I was there that day and it was a dark day for those celtic supporters who did boo Fergus). It’s my opinion that our manager got it badly wrong on Saturday. I say that as a Celtic supporter and supporter of NFL.

Next time, tackle the point not the man.

    I second that

Sorry 67Heaven for getting your name wrong.

  5. Aye Lenny and his staff got a couple of thing wrong against the sheep, if they learn from it fine.

What I don’t get is we can play a different system and blow teams away, hartz, m/well, why change that ?

I understand horses for courses, but the sheep are about the same standard as m/well, and yet we resorted to a tried and trusted failed system, [ on occasion] a system that has brought us some bad results against oppo we should be beating with ease.

Still wouldn’t contemplate getting rid, if Lenny decides to go, fair enough, but sacking him, never.

    Question for you.

Have any other clubs expressed an interest in the outcome of resolution 12?

    Spartans for example?

Am I right in assuming that they would have applied for the position that was awarded to deadco? Who else applied for league membership , only to be royally shafted?

Had the deceased not been given the slot in division 3, who would have been in pole position to take it?

    Your thoughts please.

    =============

Res 12 has nothing to do with the decision to award Sevco a place in the SFL as The Rangers so Spartans will not be interested.

The licence was actually granted within the rules at 31st March, the question surrounds the SFA handling of the monitoring thereafter from 30th June.

The rules allow for a club to be expelled after a licence has been granted but that is unlikely to have happened, a sanction in the following season being more likely (but the avoided that by going bust). The Res though asks for the whole process to be referred to UEFA to confirm full compliance with the rules, Celtic thought it necessary because of what the SFA told them, but information emerging last year questions the SFA version and that is what is being looked at to see if they carried out their responsibilities properly.

Had Rangers been excluded as at 31 March 2011 Celtic would have got the CL place and from memory Kilmarnock would have got a Europa slot as Celtic won the SC which allowed the 5th placed team in.

I bow to your more intimate contact however he must have started working in the yards by the late 1940s – as I say he went through the system and the unofficial policies remained in place until after UCS when Government money and political oversight might they had to go

Read what I wrote – did he ever speak out about it? – if so can you point me in the right direction

I seem to recall that he worked for both Robert Maxwell and Rupert Murdoch – all good there then!

Never said he was a bigot but I go along with the old civil rights adage that if you’re not part of the solution you’re part of the problem

Was I wrong about him being at The bigotdome on a regular basis? I’m sure he never joined in the songs but always suspicious of a thinking man who could go along with the hordes just for the fitba!

  19. eddieinkirkmichael, I can add my tuppenceworth into the JR, was he wasn’t he debate and from my recollection he was no friend of Celtic.

I remember driving through to Celtic Park one Saturday afternoon with my son probably about 1983-5 and listening to the car radio heard Reid give a terrible put down of the Plastic Paddies stuff, mocking the fans who sang of Ireland and had never been out of Scotland etc, etc.

He then went on about local people should support their local team and not travel the length of the country to watch the OF.

You can take that to the bank.

I was livid in my car listening to it and never had any time for the man after that. The fact he helped the Sun discredit Arthur Scargill who as we now know was set up by MI5 and was telling the truth about the 75 pit hit list that McGregor had doesn’t do him any favours either.

But for his absolute contempt of those like me who feel an affinity to the country of my ancestors and follow Celtic he made it clear as day, and there must be a record of his views on this. He wasn’t likely to say this once and off the record on live radio.

  20. I think, out of our run of consecutive clean sheets Samaras played one, maybe two games. In the game I recall him playing I believe we played awfully poor. On Saturday, I thought we had four defenders & four forwards with an invisible midfield. More importantly though, I thought we played like a team of individuals, even-more-so like a team of individuals who had just met for the first time the previous day.

Based on results this season & this season alone, when Samaras has been in the team, we have been at our worst, its as if the entire system has to be changed to suit his strengths which in turn exposes the weaknesses of the rest of the squad. Dont get me wrong I thought the pass Sammy made for Stokesy’s goal was his best pass all season & seeing stokes score that goal gave me the impression that the arrival of Griffiths had given him (Stokes) the desire to raise his game like he did when he was playing for a new contract. But that soon excitement dwindled soon after the goal.

Adam Matthews nowhere near even 60% match fit

    Giorgios Samaras hitchhiker

    Anthony Stokes uninterested

    Stefan Johansen stranger

Scott Brown invisible liability after his booking

Kris Commons cant fault him as he is already player of the year due to his excellent form this season

In contrast to the main article, I cannot fault the defence due to their recent form & I feel they were let down by the midfield & forwards.

We got Ki instead of McCarthy at the time, that’s the info I was given?

Just a point in defence of Lenny and his decision to play Adam Mathews.

Young Darnell had a poor game against St Mirren, the week previous, with St Mirren targeting that area (in my view), like many young players, they will suffer a dip in form ?

Lenny must have seen this, hence decision to play Adam, who again in my view, if fit, is a very good player
