Defence need to play-up for their keeper

812

First the treble then the double slipped through the net leaving Celtic absolute certainties for the inaugural Scottish Premiership title, but with only a couple of higher aspirations to aim for.  Fraser Forster is closing in on Bobby Clark’s Aberdeen league shut out record, which if he keeps a clean sheet at home to St Johnstone on Sunday, he would be able to eclipse 31 minutes into the visit to Tynecastle on 22 February.

Neil Lennon called Saturday’s defeat unacceptable but it would be just as unacceptable to concede to St Johnstone at home this weekend when so close to an all-time record.    Saints have scored only one league goal away from home (at Firhill) since winning at Tynecastle on 2 November last year.  Notwithstanding their four Cup goals at Forfar on Saturday, you could not wish for a more goal-shy league visitors.

The manager was rightly critical of his defence on Saturday so will hopefully use this weekend to ensure they are ready to play up for their goalkeeper this Sunday.

One of the highlights for the Celtic community last year was the incredible Ben Nevis Huddle, completed on the snow-capped mountain in June. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, 28 June. Applications opened on Friday and there are only 77 places left (big mountain but limited safe standing capacity). Go here if you want to get involved.

If you’ve got lots of time to install Linux, load header files and scripts to allow you to display something on a screen etc. then get a Raspberry Pi – which is basically a circuit board to designed to allow kids to learn how to code. I’m not saying you won’t get it to work, but it’s not a simple box with an on/off switch.

How about jail-breaking an Apple TV instead? Much easier to install XBMC

  2. Harry would be good, especially if he dragged along Tom and another 126 Taffs too, as long as they just played at being rebels and pocketed the check and didn’t indulge any of that lateral movement nonsense or aggressively harmonise.

I’m sure they could do a good cover of all the GB’s hits. Glasgow’s Green and White….

  3. It’s probably just a generational thing, but I’m astonished that people aren’t aware that Jimmy Reid had been a leading member, and certainly for at least a decade, the best known member, of the Communist Party.

Mind you I seem to recall that his biography on the SNP’s website, while it mentioned his trade unionism, leadership at UCS and his moving from Labour to SNP was silent on his membership of the CP.

It’s a lot simpler than that these days, you can get SD cards pre-set up with XBMC, but as I said earlier, that itself is no guarantee of hassle free watching of anything.

If the Dons get to the final and, face the huns…that

Coming home was scary – we had to get the ‘Rangers football special’

  15. So Jimmy Reid is oot the gang because he didn’t attend Celtic Park whilst he endeavoured to save thousands of jobs and help put food on the table in an attempt to alleviate the unemployment which was later to ravage the town and areas outwith.I think Big Jock managed ok without him. Seems like lots agree with Shanks’ line about football being more important than life and death. We whiff of hypocrisy in the air.

    TinyTim,

Cheers, i’ve been a wee bit surprised recently at some of the people who have questioned and the manner its been framed, as you know diplomacy is not a speciality of mine so I

let the ever patient Auldheid field the questions but even he gets frustrated at the barracking he gets sometimes.

I admit I have been compromised, I originally wanted to keep everything out in the open, problem with that was, the club are the only ones who can question the SFA and represent us so if they need confidentiality then we must accede that to get what we want.

Saying that the new Jag, corner office at Celtic Park and six figure salary has persuaded me integrity is not everything :oD)))

I expect most know enough about me from here to know if we get stiffed I’ll scweam and scweam till my nose bleeds. The naysayers will gloat but I’ll know we did everything we could to see it through including swallowing some pride.

Regardless of what anybody says in the future, you will have tried to make a difference, and that’s a lot more than most.

  20. A wee footnote on the late Jimmy Reid exchanges …

In 1974, at the height of his fame, (i.e. following fast on the heels of the remarkable UCS work-in, which he helped lead) and not long after being elected Rector of Glasgow Uni), he did indeed stand as a Communist Party candidate in 2 general elections in Clydebank.

As a youngster, I was ‘lucky’ enough to join my Dad at a hustings meeting in the hall of the old Miller Street school, prior to the February 1974 general election.

As others have hinted, in those days the Labour Party could probably have put forward a chimpanzee and got it elected in Clydebank.

In the event the sitting MP, Hugh McCartney (Dad of Sir Ian McCartney), was comfortably re-elected, ahead of [in 2nd place] the Tory, Michael (later Sir Michael) Hirst. (The SNP were 2nd in the October general election of that year, with the Tories dropping to 3rd).

I remember that the school hall was packed to the gunwales. I remember, too, my Dad pointing out how uncomfortable Hugh McCartney was, trying to hold his own in the presence of the charismatic Reid, who was an outstanding public speaker, very able to think on his feet and clearly relishing the occasion.

The atmosphere was made the more intense, because Reid had a sore throat and spoke in a kind of hoarse, stage whisper; if memory serves me there were no microphones in the hall. So that the hall seemed to fall into a sort of reverential hush anytime Reid took the floor.

As a Catholic altar server at the time, I also recall the message being broadcast from the constituency’s parish pulpits that it was wrong for the faithful to vote Communist. (I think I might also be correct in recalling that (the then auxiliary) Bishop [later Cardinal] T.J. Winning was then based in the Clydebank parish of OHR; though I wasn’t in that parish, so can’t remember if he would have been PP.

This latter recollection – of pulpit , if accurate, would indicate that it wasn’t just the Labour Party that thought Reid was in with a shout of getting elected.

I remember one of them particularly, when the Honda Civic first arrived on our shores and one of his mates bought one.

  25. JOE LEDLEY has lifted the lid on his gut wrenching decision to quit Celtic.

And he admits it still hurts that he left Scotland without saying goodbye to his team-mates and fans.

Ledley, who left for Crystal Palace 12 days ago, said :”That really upset me. I will always regret the fact that I didn’t get the chance to say a proper goodbye.”

The whirlwind move ended a trophy-laden three & a half years at Celtic Park.

But it happened so fast he didn’t have the opportunity to say farewell.

“I didn’t really have time to think about it. Maybe it was a good thing as leaving a club like Celtic is a really hard thing to do.

He revealed; “We’d spoken about a new deal at Celtic and were still weighing a few things up. Do I stay or do I go? I was genuinely thinking about staying. I thought I would end up staying. I had told most of the boys I thought I’d be staying. But I came into training the next morning and there was talk I could be leaving.

“The next day the bid was accepted and I was on my way.

“It was a good deal for Celtic because they got some money for me and it was a good deal for me too.

He added: “Celtic is a fantastic club, they’ll always be my team. I got on with everyone at the club, the lads were fantastic. My family were settled and I was really happy in Glasgow. But sometimes things happen in football.”
