Defence need to play-up for their keeper

812

First the treble then the double slipped through the net leaving Celtic absolute certainties for the inaugural Scottish Premiership title, but with only a couple of higher aspirations to aim for.  Fraser Forster is closing in on Bobby Clark’s Aberdeen league shut out record, which if he keeps a clean sheet at home to St Johnstone on Sunday, he would be able to eclipse 31 minutes into the visit to Tynecastle on 22 February.

Neil Lennon called Saturday’s defeat unacceptable but it would be just as unacceptable to concede to St Johnstone at home this weekend when so close to an all-time record.    Saints have scored only one league goal away from home (at Firhill) since winning at Tynecastle on 2 November last year.  Notwithstanding their four Cup goals at Forfar on Saturday, you could not wish for a more goal-shy league visitors.

The manager was rightly critical of his defence on Saturday so will hopefully use this weekend to ensure they are ready to play up for their goalkeeper this Sunday.

One of the highlights for the Celtic community last year was the incredible Ben Nevis Huddle, completed on the snow-capped mountain in June. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, 28 June. Applications opened on Friday and there are only 77 places left (big mountain but limited safe standing capacity). Go here if you want to get involved.

  1. “CQteN Dream Team”

Now is your chance to select your CQteN dream from the last decade

    Rules are very simple:

Select 11 players from the list below, forming either a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 formation

    So you will need:

    1 goalkeeper

    2 full backs

    2 centre backs

    3 or 4 midfielders

    2 or 3 forwards

    and of course….

    1 manager.

Each player on the list below has made at least 10 starting appearances from July 2004 to date during the CQteN decade.

    So no Henrik, then!

When you are selecting the players, you should ideally base your selection on their performances during the CQteN decade, but then again that is your choice.

Send your selection to us by email to doccqten@gmail.com with your CQN blog name (if you do not have one, then you need to get thinking as well)

Anybody can enter: bloggers, lurkers, friends and family, but you can only enter ONCE.

The closing date for entries is 3pm Sunday 9th March 2014

The CQteN dream team will be announced at the CQteN night on Friday 14th March and there will be a couple of prizes for the closest teams selected to the winning team.

Over the coming weeks, to assist you in your selection, we will select a category and list the players relevant appearances and goals. So watch out for these on CQN.

    Good luck and get selecting.

Ibrox greats step up to back push for fan ownership ahead of Supporters Direct forum

    10 February 2014 01:55 PM By Dailyrecord.co.uk

RANGERS great Richard Gough and former midfielder Alex Rae are backing the bid for “greater fan ownership” by Supporters Direct Scotland.

Richard Gough: “The fans are the heart and soul of Rangers Football Club.”

RICHARD GOUGH and Alex Rae have become the first two former Rangers players to back a scheme that could hand the club’s supporters power at Ibrox.

Representatives of the club’s support have been invited to hear a presentation from Supporters Direct Scotland on how they could set about launching a bid for “greater fan ownership”.

SDS has already helped supporters of Dunfermline and Hearts successfully arrange deals to take control of their clubs and believe the Rangers faithful could be the next to grab a greater say in how their club is run.

They will discuss the vision at a meeting at the Louden Tavern, Ibrox, on Valentine’s Day and have already won the backing of nine-in-a-row captain Gough.

The former Scotland defender said: “The fans are the heart and soul of Rangers Football Club and one sure way to guarantee that this remains the case at Rangers forever is for the fans to collectively have more power in the club.

“As we are a PLC, fans collectively owning shares is in my opinion one way to ensure this, and the more they own the louder their voice.

“I therefore look forward to hearing what comes out of this meeting on the 14th and hope it move the cause of fan involvement forward at Ibrox.”

Former Gers midfielder Rae – who helped the Glasgow giants land the 2005 Scottish Premier League title – has also indicated his support.

“When I go to Ibrox I hear the Rangers fans singing ‘Four men had a dream’ about the men who founded the club,” he said. “Well the many thousands of Rangers Fans can now make that dream a reality again by gathering together with the single issue of collectively owning their club.

“That is why I look forward to hearing what comes from the meeting of the 14th and look forward to supporting the next step.”

It is understood that SDS has drawn up a blueprint that will see a Community Interest Company formed which will then collect monthly contributions from fans.

It will be based broadly on the same model which has put the Foundation of Hearts group in poll position to rescue the administration-hit Jambos.

Head of SDS Paul Goodwin spoke last week of how a scheme with around 25,000 supporters handing over around £20 a month would give them £6million after 12 months.

The current Ibrox share-price has fallen to 25.75p – a huge drop on the 70p launch price.

The Foundation of Hearts announced last week it had struck a deal with majority shareholder UBIG to take control of their 78.97 per cent stake in the Jambos. The Gorgie bid is backed by more than 7,500 fans each making a monthly donation.

SDS is also currently working with fan groups and boards at Motherwell, Ayr United and Annan Athletic as they bid help take those clubs into community ownership.

Rangers announced a £14.4million loss for the 13-month period up to June with reports suggesting the club is still losing £1million a month.

The club’s AGM just before Christmas saw angry shareholders lining up to criticise the Ibrox board for their handling of the club’s affairs.

Last month, the first-team players rejected a proposed 15 per cent pay cut while chief executive Graham Wallace has started a 120-day review of the League One leaders’ operations after admitting spending is out of control.

2 questions-they suggesting that with the share price being low it can be done( any help I’m saying after they have acquired 30 % of the shares ,they will need to make a offer the other shareholders at the highest share price of the last 12 months ).

Why doesn’t Gough just ask his best pal for the money

However, is there anything more shocking than the sight of RC Ogilvie taking his seat in the directors box on Friday night. Anyone with even an ounce of decorum would stay locked in a padded cell until the stench had at least started to abate. Not this chancer, you could not mark his neck with a very large blow torch, completely unembarrasable! ( is that a real word?)

Eddie, forget the backdrop of this interview and Reid says nothing at all about our club’s Irish identity, as opposed to fans having a strong bond with their clubs.

As to his using the term “plastic paddy” I am not sure I said he did but his scathing condemnation of us in terms that disparaged those Scots who would sing of Erin’s green valleys on the slopes of Celtic Park, but who had never set foot on the place was delivered in his most sarcastic and powerful orator’s manner. This was on national radio and I was livid.

Has he ever done anything that would be contradictory to that? Perhaps he has, but then he belied his UCS image when he took the Sun’s shilling and attacked the miners, via their leader of course.

As an ex shop steward myself, I was a fan of Reid, until that day on the motorway travelling to Celtic Park.

Emigrants do often get over sentimental and become a bit of a parody, but would you like to guess how many “traditional” songs have been born from that?

I’m maybe gettin a bit touchy on this, but there is a whole truckfull of hypocrisy about what constitutes traditional music. These songs were born and bred in homes in and out of the land they sing about – Scotland, Ireland, or elsewhere. By ordinary people, sometimes murdering them, sometimes taking them to new heights.

Any “minstrel” that takes the piss out of this is a twat who doesn’t appreciate where his bread and butter has come from. Full Stop.

Yes but it’s not that straight-forward. For one thing XBMC depends on dodgy streams, so you’re unlikely to get consistent access to any of your favourite channels. It’s also quote slow so it can be really frustrating checking one option, seeing it’s not working and then checking another option.

They’ve switched satellite haven’t they? By the time you get a Pi, keyboard, mouse, power supply etc you could probably pick up a freesat system for about the same price. Manually tuning it would be no more difficult than getting a the Pi up and running with XBMC.
