Defence need to play-up for their keeper

812

First the treble then the double slipped through the net leaving Celtic absolute certainties for the inaugural Scottish Premiership title, but with only a couple of higher aspirations to aim for.  Fraser Forster is closing in on Bobby Clark’s Aberdeen league shut out record, which if he keeps a clean sheet at home to St Johnstone on Sunday, he would be able to eclipse 31 minutes into the visit to Tynecastle on 22 February.

Neil Lennon called Saturday’s defeat unacceptable but it would be just as unacceptable to concede to St Johnstone at home this weekend when so close to an all-time record.    Saints have scored only one league goal away from home (at Firhill) since winning at Tynecastle on 2 November last year.  Notwithstanding their four Cup goals at Forfar on Saturday, you could not wish for a more goal-shy league visitors.

The manager was rightly critical of his defence on Saturday so will hopefully use this weekend to ensure they are ready to play up for their goalkeeper this Sunday.

One of the highlights for the Celtic community last year was the incredible Ben Nevis Huddle, completed on the snow-capped mountain in June. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, 28 June. Applications opened on Friday and there are only 77 places left (big mountain but limited safe standing capacity). Go here if you want to get involved.

Perhaps this game was a wake up call for a couple of players.

We used to be harsh on our players after games against the dead club, Kelvin Wilson struggled in his first one and came back a better player.

There’s a wee toothless auld man celebrating his 76th birthday today – an its no me. He’s havin his coffee just now an obviously training for the annual girnin competition.

He knows more Irish songs than anybody I’ve ever met, a lot of them learned growin up in a hoose whose walls must now breath them. He’s had to endure more hardship than, hopefully, I’ll ever know. He’s got to have read the majority of the books written on Irish history, politics, and culture, and is no sentimental fool. He took us to Ireland every year since I was a pup, but never grew up there.

He considers himself Irish because, he argues, it was the culture he was brought up in – even if it was displaced from its geographical roots. To say he was anything else, he argues, would be a pretence, and he doesn’t do that.

He has been called a plastic many times both here and over the water, by people who know less, yet who have that strident snobbery which is so often the mark of the shallow thinker.

I’ve said to him: Da, take my view – you’re part of neither here nor there, so revel in that. He looks at me like I’m daft, and he’s probably right. Because I know that he takes the more difficult option, and ignores the plastic labelling.

This is the movie where Walter Matthau and his son would sneak out at night and putt gas in their neighbour’s car every night, So the neighbour (Henry Jones) thought he was getting over 50 mpg. Then they started siphoning it out, So then he thought he was getting less than 20 mpg. Drove the guy nuts like Reid’s pal.

Are you talking about an Android box ?

It runs on Filmon, who are in court in April re illegal streaming, I don’t want to spend on a box for it to be useless in a few weeks

Get yourself an app, Showbox for Android. You’ll need to Google it to find it but it’s brilliant. I use that on our Hudl and link it to the TV using an Hdmi cable.

Not home till end of the month and only for a week, have looked in when I’ve had time the last few days have been depressing you’d think we threw the title away going on some of the comments.

Personally I’m with thomthetim on the cup, I’m glad the SFA wont be making any more money from the Celtic support hopefully their showpiece will fall flat on its face.

If the huns make the final, the SFA could lose money instead.

They will be responsible for the repair bill, which they can then chase TRIFCO for. Good luck wi that….

In the Immaculate Conception Church in Maryhill it was standard procedure the Sunday before all elections that it was announced from the Pulpit that ‘it was our duty as Catholics not to vote for a Communist candidate at the election’.

Remember also that at that time (prior to Vatican 2) Mass ended with ‘Prayers for the Conversion of Russia’ following the Last Gospel.

I suspect that at least one of the top teams left will lose due to some strange refereeing.

The other two contest one semi b

This will offer the chance for the huns to get a team more suited to their talents in the other semi.

    BRING BACK PHILVIS!

  25. We have a good goalie, a good defence and what looks like the makings of a good midfield.

What worries me is the strikers. All the strikers Neil Lennon has signed before this season:

Hooper, Murphy, Stokes, Lassad, Miku, Brozek, Olivier Kapo, Tony Watt, Bangura

It’s hard to argue he has had a high success rate. Hooper is an undoubted success for sure. As for Watt, I wouldn’t say he is a poor player but we will see how his career pans out at Celtic (If he still has one here). I would say that so far, he is a success relative to the fee paid.

I personally have never been a fan of Stokes but I could see how a player who got around 20 goals in his first two seasons is a success (though for me, thats around the minimum a striker like Stokes should get)

But for those three success stories we have 6 failures.

This season we have signed 4 strikers. It’s two early to judge Griffiths and Frindjonsson at all. As for Pukki and Balde, they may come good but its fair to say I would have expected more.

  26. went to the pub last night and saw a fat chick dancing on a table. I said, “Nice legs.”

  28. Heroes?

    We all have them.

Fitba players, other sporting personalities, musicians, actors, revolutionaries(!)…

We bought their posters and hung them on our bedroom walls.

We took the posters down when we left the bosom of the family and moved out to (try) and make our way in the world.

We still revered them – and in some cases we still do.

    Sometimes they disappoint(ed) us.

But they are human beings like us, often with the same frailties and demons that we have but, perhaps, with a lot more money!
