Demonising liquidation carries risk

990

I didn’t hear the scores of other games this weekend until today when I read a red card protest (remember the day Celtic fans gave birth to this concept?) occurred at Ibrox to demonstrate disapproval to any potential new owner who plans to liquidate Rangers.

It would be preferable to everyone if Rangers paid their bills, restoring a degree of dignity, although apparently no one is offering to do this.  Publicly bidders for the club will all confirm their preference is to exit administration via a Creditors Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).  Offering pennies in the pound for a company is unquestionably a great deal, for the buyer, but whoever is nominated as preferred bidder this week is likely to have a serious option to liquidate the club.

Demonising the liquidation option carries risks for Rangers fans.  Short of raising considerably more money than they have thus far and paying their bills, there is little fan power can do right now.  If liquidation is the best option for creditors it will happen, better to accept the reality of the situation.  Whatever the resulting phoenix club is called, if the new owners inherit animosity from the start it will only diminish the potential of their new club.

Huge credit must go to Stevie Woods. HH

  4. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

    Snake P……

    Well worth another look!

    Thanks!

    The feel good factor continues!

  5. If Huns fans were as honourable as they believe they are and truly feel they deserve to be viewed as dignified sure each and everyone of their season book holders would approach their banks in order to take out a loan of approx. £3.5K in order to pay off the clubs debt in full.

Or maybe even the 250,000 who Tsunamied Manchester could borrow £500 to pay off the debt.

That surely would be the honourable and dignified road for them to walk.

Welcome back Ed. Hope your gritted tooff is not too worn. :-)))

He’s doing a fantastic job at the Club. So many people in the background who deserve as much credit as the manager and players. HH

  8. Snake,

Thanks for that. My dilemma now is: Do I enjoy games more when I KNOW the result or does the angst in real time viewing enhance the pleasure of victory?

See being a Celik supporter, it`s brilliant but full of worries and contradictions! Nae wunner we`re parahandy!

was visiting my friend in vale hospital last night,he has lung cancer due to asbestoses, have known him since childhood.anyway my first words were COME ON YE BOYS IN GREEN,he smiled as he is very weak, his wife has game taped, hoping to get home tomorrow,

  10. Snake Plissken on

    Tommy Joad, theweegreenman

The two tracks I think make the video.

The first is the opening track from A clockwork orange and the other is taken from the movie Drive from last year. It is some piece of music. It is called a Real Hero and I thought it would fit Neil Lennon and Celtic perfectly.

They are both haunting moving tracks and it sums up this season. The range of emotions we’ve felt – a real roller coaster.

It brings a tear to my eye when I watch it again.

    Hail Hail

What about all the fuds like Nacho Nogoals and Fleckinho having to get the tattoos lasered off? there would be a queue a mile long for that job.

I’d volunteer to take them off with a puma stone!

  13. Been offline for a bit ……. is the hun love still on Edward :¬)

  14. Kojo @ 17:09,

As a wiser man than me once said Good Grief

    Edward Ursus,

Seemed to be otherwise engaged on Saturday but for one of the oldest and bestests contributors to CQN to be given a hard time is disgraceful.

Please post more, the quality of CQN has never been about the trad Celtic Man IMO (though having years in semi detatched wilderness I love their contributions) it is about the difference.

After the game, which I was watching with a few bhoys, our very own MBB* came down to congratulate us and buy us a beer, great to see him and respect.

*He’s not a Billionaire (yet) so you can use your imagination on the second “B”

    Hail Hail

  15. Snake,

Real Hero is outstanding musically and lyrically and both seem to fit for the manager.

Is it on You Tube yet, it deserves a wider audience, good work !!

  16. Kojo, even if you accept the argument that Capitalism is about skewing the deck to suit the big boys, there is something deeply unfair about those with most paying the least contribution to the state that looks after all those that need the help. I agree that able people should be encouraged to work, but it is not only a socialist position to expect that those with most could pay their share.

Even, accepting your economic position, the one thing keeping these big corporations from investing in Scotland is in fact independence. The one thing they don’t like is uncertainty, and their getting bag loads of that with Salmond’s long term referendum campaign.

  17. On the POTY,

I went with big Victor, I thought that he was the guy that most improved our team. Capable in two positions, I think he has benefited a number of those playing around him.

I did vote before the Rangers game and would probably change to Charlie Mulgrew given his performances over the last week. I also went for Rogne for the YPOTY.

  18. Kojo,

Discussion is how we move forward. However if I may summarise your point through Bob Dylan “Dont follow leaders and watch your parking meters”

Only one candidate for POTY, Charlie Mulgrew.

Coorslad :- The only site I knew of where I think Celtic fans were made welcome was “Fat Ecks” but sadly it closed a couple of years back. “GersForum” did have a regular Celtic supporting poster called Countrybhoy from Belfast but as far as I know he was the only one. Sites like FF or Vanguard would ban anyone they suspected of being a “timposter” I don’t frequent any of those two after being banned half a dozen times from FF and as far as Vanguard goes I had no interest in communicating with the average poster on it.

  21. In my humble opinion:

    Poty- Charlie Mulgrew

    YPoty-James Forrest

Special mention to big Fraser who really has secured us some points this year. Most improved in my eyes.

  25. Edward Ursus, welcome back. Despite what Mr Shankley said, there are some things more important than football.

  26. IMO the POTY is someone who has been essential to the Team throughout the year while not necessarily getting the MOTM plaudits. Thats why I dont tend to vote for strikers as they get all of the attention anyway. I also expect The Captain to be leading by example.

A couple of players have stood out in this regard. Playing in several positions to fit in with whatever @OfficialNeil has asked of them, and popping up with critical contributions at both ends of the pitch. For a while I thought Joe Ledley was my pick but he was amongst the under-performers against Killie a few weeks back. That leaves Charlie Mulgrew who seems to appreciate his second chance with the club and plays with a smile on his face.
