Demonising liquidation carries risk

990

I didn’t hear the scores of other games this weekend until today when I read a red card protest (remember the day Celtic fans gave birth to this concept?) occurred at Ibrox to demonstrate disapproval to any potential new owner who plans to liquidate Rangers.

It would be preferable to everyone if Rangers paid their bills, restoring a degree of dignity, although apparently no one is offering to do this.  Publicly bidders for the club will all confirm their preference is to exit administration via a Creditors Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).  Offering pennies in the pound for a company is unquestionably a great deal, for the buyer, but whoever is nominated as preferred bidder this week is likely to have a serious option to liquidate the club.

Demonising the liquidation option carries risks for Rangers fans.  Short of raising considerably more money than they have thus far and paying their bills, there is little fan power can do right now.  If liquidation is the best option for creditors it will happen, better to accept the reality of the situation.  Whatever the resulting phoenix club is called, if the new owners inherit animosity from the start it will only diminish the potential of their new club.

Coorslad :- The only site I knew of where I think Celtic fans were made welcome was “Fat Ecks” but sadly it closed a couple of years back. “GersForum” did have a regular Celtic supporting poster called Countrybhoy from Belfast but as far as I know he was the only one. Sites like FF or Vanguard would ban anyone they suspected of being a “timposter” I don’t frequent any of those two after being banned half a dozen times from FF and as far as Vanguard goes I had no interest in communicating with the average poster on it.

  2. Kojo, a doyen of the free market? Going beyond the surface message there is truth in what is said. However even the Americans adopted Keynsian economics to escape the Great Depression. Mixed economy anyone? Old fashioned I know but then thats just me.

My work took me to the soon to be de-commissioned Death Star on Saturday. Most amusing scene definitely the Life of Brian re-enactment with the shoes.

I think Big Fraser was the most instrumental player in achieving the unbeaten run. Now come to expect the big man to make a game changing save, aparrt from Boruc early years never expeienced that in 35 years of supporting the tic.

    Serge,

Aye and he has never had a settled back four.

An absolute steal if we can sign him for 2 million.

A fine response. I would expect no less from you. Whilst understanding the “my team ” philosophy, I am still at a loss to understand how a man like you could support a team which had that sectarian policy and have never, as far as I know, said it was very, very wrong. If Celtic decided tomorrow that they were to bring in such a policy, my support would end in an instant.

  9. FLC

I’m hoping that support he had at his back either half on saturday will sway it for him. The top clubs in the EPL all have decent keepers, I cant see him leaving to join a bottom of the table club. I hope not anyway. He’s my player of the year, Just edges it ahead of Broonie who has had a sensational 2nd half to the season. And like you say thats with an unsettled back 4.

  10. PF

£300,000? Well, if claims of their “millions wide” fan base are to be believed, that means a MAXIMUM of around 15 pence each! Puts us Celtic fans to shame!!

Broonie after a poor start has been exceptional. Controlling and dictating the midfield whilst remaining disciplined. Looks like it may have been the ankle that was hindering him the last couple of years.

  13. POTY?

Individually, a strong case can be made for Sammi and, even more so, Charlie. If overall influence on others is included , the Broonie is, for me, the outstanding candidate.

He is one of they players that no manager has ever dropped, Gordon Strachan, Tony Mowbery, Neil Lennonon, Burley, Levein, McLeish, Smith. He was always in their teams and i for the life of me couldnae understand why.

Scott Brown for me! Whatever his shortcomings as a footballer, he makes up for with a drive and determination that lifts the whole team.

He’s chipped in nicely with a few goals too!.

Rumours going round that FF wants to play in the EPL.

Scotty wants to play for Celtic.

  19. Tea time in Timland.

    Full time in Poundland.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahah! Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

  20. In all honestly there’s 5 or 6 players all in with a chance of winning the POTY so that shows how well the team has done.

  21. Apparently the poster ‘@scotsbytheway’ was serious when he chided Alex Thomson on Twitter for investigating thems for what Thomson calls ‘potentially the biggest scandal in UK sporting history’: Don’t investigate us, because:

When you see someone on the floor you’ll either offer a hand (the decent thing) or walk by (ignorant). Kicking them is cowardly.

The same poster then asked Thomson what his awards were if he was an ‘award-winning journalist’. Thomson replies:

‘Bafta, RTS, Monte Carlo, New York tv awards’

This fellow Thomson could go far. And in his investigating of Rangers, I sincerely hopes he goes all the way.

  22. Kojo,

Unlike some, I quite enjoy reading most of your posts but that last one is incredibly simplistic and lacking in substance,

JungleJim :- There used to be a phrase that was popular on here (and before anyone gets worried it’s nothing to do with amortisation) Cognitive dissonance, I suppose in some ways that explains how I could give 100% support to the team while despising the politics at the club. I know that’s not perhaps a great answer but it’s the best I can do.

Voguepunter :- I’ll have to look to find that one, but do you really want to embarrass two sweet young girls by showing them dressed like that :-)
