The transcript for the HMRC v Rangers First Tier Tribunal (FTT) runs to 1126 pages. It will take weeks, perhaps months, to distil the content into what remains relevant to the SFA’s decision to reject the SPFL’s request to review issues surrounding Rangers EBTs. For today:
Current SFA Council member (and Newco Rangers Head of Football Administration), Andrew Dickson, was cross-examined by Mr Thomson (representing HMRC).
On 18 April 2011, Mr Thomson asked Mr Dickson why a Trust schedule was not lodged with the football authorities, Mr Dickson replied:
It should not “Not necessarily” have been lodged.
When asked by Mr Thomson “What possibly basis do you have for saying that it should not have been lodged?”
Mr Dickson replied, “The SPL didn’t – never contacted us coming looking for it”.
After failing to convince Mr Thomson that lodging the schedule late rendered there no point to lodging it at all, Mr Thomson puts him on the spot:
“I’m asking you about the fact that it should have been lodged. It’s supposed to be lodged early. Just because you don’t lodge it timeously, doesn’t mean to say that you’re not then under an obligation to lodge it, Mr Dickson.”
To this, Mr Dickson concedes:
“Okay, it should have been lodged with the SPL then.”
A current SFA Council member, in a court of law, accepted that Oldco Rangers did not lodge paperwork to the SPL relating to EBT payments, which he accepted should have been lodged.
Mr Dickson’s SFA colleagues decided to reject the SPFL’s request for a review into the matter. You can draw your own conclusions as to why.

Sad to learn of the passing of Paul Wilson who infuriated often but dazzled often too. He had to put up with stuff no player should have to ever in what is a reminder that the old days weren’t always better. He will be, I guess, remembered most for several great displays v RFC ( not least in a 0-3 loss at Ibrox in Jan 75 when most of the rest of the team gave up) but there was one run he had in a 4-0 win v Hibs which was the most intricate dribble I ever saw.

I really really liked Paul Wilson; another talent that failed tae reach the heights he was destined for. Season 1974/75, my last living at hame, is where he shone, even though we failed tae reach the ten we still won 2 cups, unlike deidco when they failed in 1998 and won eff all.
One game that sticks out is when he came on as sub for Dixie against the sheep in the Dryborough Cup Semi at Parkheid. With the scores locked at 1-1 it went intae extra time, Martin Buchan’s brother George who had also come on as a sub for Taylor the player that ended their unbeaten run in the last game of the season 4 years previously giving us the title, had equalised and then given them the lead early on in ET. Paul Wilson scored a cracker of an equaliser 13 minutes later intae the deidco end. Big Tid would score the winner 3 minutes later.
My main memory of that game, apart fae ex-hun willoughby playing in red boots, though is big wullie young, a lumbering centre half in the ian ure mould, unlike ure he never played for the full national side having been sine died by the SFA after a night club incident in Copenhagen.
Anyway in the 2nd half while up for a corner, the big durty bassa landed on top of the ref knocking him out. The linesman, as they were called back then in the dark ages, from the Jungle side replaced him and a call went out for a qualified official to replace him.
Out trots this wee punter fae the stand, a lot of guesses who he was but I knew him right away, he was fae the Renton and used tae ref school games in Dumbartonshire. He was a revelation that night flagging a few sheep attacks for offside, if my memory serves me well he also flagged for a goal that was chalked off.
When the ref recovered and returned shortly later as he made his way back tae his seat in the stand he received a standing ovation. Wee Harry was fair that night and definitely no a soup taker like colum.

Pedro Caixinha says teams show more aggression against his Rangers side than other Premiership opponents.
In Rangers’ draw with Partick Thistle, the Jags were shown five yellow cards and one red, while Ryan Edwards went unpunished for a tackle on Ryan Jack.
And Caixinha says he has noticed a general difference from watching sides while preparing for matches.
“I don’t see the same aggression that they have with those [other] teams that they have with our team,” he said.
“It’s interesting, because normally when you watch the opposition teams playing against maybe the four opponents before they play against us, and normally in those opponents are top teams like playing against Celtic and Aberdeen, I don’t see the same behaviour.
“I’m not criticising. I’m saying that we need to know how to deal with it because it’s happening on a regular basis. So it’s one more thing that we need to care about – not caring about the opponents’ game, playing our football – but when it’s time to fight, it’s time to fight.”
Rangers, who did not pick up any bookings against Thistle, are back at Firhill for a League Cup quarter-final on Tuesday night, following the 2-2 Premiership match on Friday.
And Caixinha wants to see his players cope with any aggression that comes their way, from Partick or any other side.
“It’s a fact,” he said in reference to the aggression shown towards his troops. “I’m not saying why it’s happening. The fact is that it’s happening and we need to know how to deal with it.
“It’s not a surprise. It’s just one fact that we need to know how to deal with.
“When you analyse things and you see the scenario and go for the reality about facing each opponent, you see that things are going in that direction. That’s the reality we need to face.”
While the Portuguese wants his players to stand tall, he added: “I don’t think that aggression is paid with aggression.
“You need to be combative, not aggressive, that’s my perspective in football. Play your football and don’t focus on that type of situation but know from the very beginning that it is going to happen against ourselves.”
Jack was left in agony after what looked like a studs-up challenge from Edwards on Friday, but the Rangers midfielder played the incident down.
“At the time (referee) Willie Collum said to me that he had never seen it and his view was blocked,” Jack said.
“It’s fair enough, as a player you just get up and have to get on with it. Ryan Edwards came to me after the game and said there was no malice or intent in the challenge. We shook hands and that was the end of it.”
