ANOTHER day, another team, another rumour. Ange Postecoglou is getting used to unfounded speculation concerning his future.
The Celtic manager discovered yesterday he was apparently on a five-man shortlist for the Spurs’ team boss job.
By the way, that’s a post that already has an occupant in the shape of Antonio Conte, so there is no actual vacancy at the London club.
That may change, of course, but Postecoglou has displayed integrity and class since arriving on these shores in June 2021 and he is hardly likely to show even infintisemal interest in commenting on such a matter.
THUMB’S UP…Ange Postecoglou looks happy enough with life as Celtic manager.
Already this season, the Greek-Australian has been linked with – take a deep breath – Leeds United, Southampton, Brighton, Wolves and Everton. It was only a matter of time before Spurs joined the queue.
Asked about the most recent link, Postecoglou, speaking to Sky Sports, answered: “I don’t look at it at all, it’s just not of interest to me.
“I don’t wake up and get a daily briefing on the latest gossip, whether that’s football or non-football related.
“I get up every morning and come to work and deal with what’s in front of me.
“The rest of it doesn’t mean anything to me, doesn’t affect me, doesn’t affect the people around me.
WHO? ME? ANOTHER JOB? Ange Postecoglou has every right to look bemused.
“Like most things, people want to have something to talk about and they pick things that are fairly obscure and you can run with without worrying too much whether there is actually any evidence behind it.”
In the meantime, Postecoglou will get on with his real job as he prepares his players for the Scottish Cup quarter-final at Tynecastle in today’s 12.15pm kick-off.
