Many clubs have trouble paying their bills but the problem with Hearts and their regular tardiness when it comes to wages, evident again this month, appears to be different. Hearts cash balances will have peaked weeks, possibly months, ago. From now on they will be eating into ‘reserves’, or more likely, accruing additional debt at their owner’s bank. For all his faults, and they are many, Romanov and other shareholders in Ukio Bankas have ‘invested’ countless millions in Hearts, money they are unlikely to get back with the residential property market so depressed. They have also not exposed the club to outrageous fortune – the overwhelming majority of debt is owed to the bank itself, balances at HMRC and other creditors are low, and they pay their football debts. This means that if Hearts go into administration, the route back through a CVA would be clear. The only serious losers would be staff made redundant, while Ukio would face a write-off, perhaps already acknowledged internally.
I was surprised at the news Danny McGrain was appointed first team coach yesterday but also delighted. Danny’s was not a name mentioned for the position when Alan Thompson left the club but he is immersed in the fabric and culture of our club. ‘In the days of changing ways’ a strong thread of continuity is an invaluable asset in ensuring the new generations acquire the important elements of our identity.

I agree with Celbridge Celt.
I have, unfortunately, heard some callous young Celts singing songs about “stairs” as they came off buses at away matches.
It is, thankfully, not a common occurrence but it has happened more than once.
The Dalek stuff is pure fantasy.

It doesn’t help though when posters spout rubbish about Celtic fans never saying anything inappropriate about the Ibrox disaster and then getting hormonal when they’re challenged about it.
It simply undermines their credibility when dismissing the dalek stuff. Doctrine of false denial and all that.

The only time I’ve ever heard the “Ibrox disaster song” was outside Rugby Park in the 70’s.
Killie was playing them and the guy, a Killie fan, was well minced. I remember moving quickly away from him before anything happened.

I am in no doubt that “huge swathes” of the Celtic support will have “heard” about many heinous events. Your original post seemed to suggest that that huge swathe actually sang those songs. I KNOW you didn`t actually say that but the impression that that is what you meant is at least a feasible interpretation.

I firmly believe that some Celtic supporters will and have sung songs about the Ibrox disaster but I have never heard any.

I have heard to the tune of Snoopy vs the Red Barron a
song sung usually by buckie filled individuals on way into games.
Not heard for many a year and never by more than a individual or
a small isolated group.
BUT personally can’t deny what I heard.
I still have the ticket for the Ibrox disaster game, which I missed due to overindulgence the night before. If I had made my alarm call I would probably have went to the game by the Methil, Burntisland, or Lochgelly supporters bus that passed through Rosyth, or I may have went by car, usually with two Rangers supporting mates and a Celtic fan driving (no colours).
We often did the latter and would have a drink in a pub at the Rangers end then go in to the ground at that end and part company. I would make my way round to Celtic end and do the reverse at full time. So I am only too aware that I could have been a casualty.
The weeks that followed the disaster saw an unprecedented coming together of all fans and I remember our bus steward on the Methil bus I think (could have been Lochgelly) take a bucket full of coins/notes from the Bridge bar in Kincardine to the other pub there where the Rangers buses stopped.
The late Thomas Winning made a speech about that time being the perfect opportunity for Rangers to sign a RC and this would bring the Old Firm sectarian problem to an end.
They didn’t it didn’t.
I have never heard a song about the Ibrox disaster and wouldn’t support Celtic if there was one sung by any number of supporters in my presence.
What really got me about the Ibrox Disaster was that so soon after all sections of society had pulled together to raise a considerable sum of money for the Lord Provost’s Ibrox Disaster Fund, Ranger’s QC (on client’s instruction) argued for these monies to be: a/ taken into account when/if damages were awarded, or b/ the £50,000 that Rangers had put into the fund be taken into account when/if damages were awarded.
They had these pleas in law kicked into touch by Sheriff Irvine Smith and though they lodged notice of appeal they dropped it.
Did the press Editorials rage at this piece of absolute hypocrisy?
No they reported it as if it was the proper thing to do.
Can you imagine the rage if Celtic Directors had tried to pull a stunt like that?

I think it’s pretty clear what I meant.
Other than that we seem to be in agreement.
I was out drinking one night with a former mate of mine. We were on Cambuslang main street, and he started singing something about the Ibrox disaster, in full view of a rather large group of well-oiled young men. They looked at him in utter disgust, and then some punches were thrown and he beat a hasty retreat.
He and I haven’t spoken since. First time I’ve ever smacked a “mate”, but then it’s also the first time – and last – time a “mate” came out with something so utterly offensive when I was in the vicinity.
I can say, with total honesty, it’s the one time, and the only time, I have ever heard a Celtic fan make a derogatory reference to that event. I got in a fight at Celtic Park once over a muppet behind who shouted something racist at Bobby Petta (and I was not alone taking a shot at that yahoo), but what happened to those football supporters, fans like you and me, like our fathers and brothers, and cousins and friends … so far off limits, so beyond any acceptable conduct … anyone who says otherwise is a liar.
To use that lie as a weapon, to stir up hatred … that takes a truly sick mind.

Unrepresentative me was at the game . Over 40 years have passed —-in all that time I have never heard anything stemming from the mouth of a Celtic supporter which could classed as derogatory / insulting etc.
Not once —-/ traveling to games in buses / cars / boats and planes . In boozers before and after games all over Scotland , England and Europe. At Celtic games all over Scotland , England and Europe . On the streets , in pubs and at parties etc etc Not once !…
The representative Celtic support must always have been somewhere else .
We used to go to the Jungle for all other games, but the Celtic End for derbies when the Jungle was full of blow-ins (“Where wur yeez for the games against Morton and Partizan Tirana ya part-timers?”, I used to say, but not out loud).
There were good people in the Celtic End.
They thought we were blow-ins.
