  1. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

That’s me and Wee BGFC back in from Dundee.

A determined defensive performance from Dundee made it very difficult for Celtic to break them down.

Looks like we will take some time for the players and their new manager to have a clear understanding of the best team structure and tactics to break down this type of defense.

Understandable given such a seismic change in management right at the business end of the season – very hard to change horse going into the final furlong.

In my view, the main blame for the stuttering performance rests at the feet of the person who abandoned his charges, and our club and fans, in favour of a more bloated salary in the EPL. Expecting a completely smooth transition isn’t realistic, and judging Neil Lennon too critically given the circumstances is unfair in the extreme.

Delighted with the three points – well done Celtic, and well done Neil for stepping in and holding it together. Three away wins and a home draw against a very stuffy and defensively competent Aberdeen team is good in the circumstances.

    Onwards and upwards.

A good post . I thought Lenny’s exuberance at the goal was sheer relief , much like the rest of us I suspect . He did make some valid points about the amount of football , number of injuries and pressure the players have faced , and of course the Rodgers fiasco would be enough to deflate any team . So maybe we fans expect too much , but disappointment in a performance is just an automatic reaction………nothing to do with entitlement.

  3. Just in from scrub a dub dub.

Firstly, can I ask after a few of my old muckers. D66 not to be confused with David 66 (me) Del I hope you are well my friend, Drew67 Drew I hope you are well also, but last but not least Delaneys Dunky I have not seen you post for a while, I hope you are well also, I could tell a few story’ s about each of these bhoys, but this is a family site. ??? God bless each of you.

Now the game………. ach feck it we won. 10 points clear, for years we played Der Hun aff the park and they would score on the break and all we got was, ah but it’s the result that counts, so it’s or turn, 3 points is all that matters, just now.

    D. :)

  4. Poor preformance but a good result. if we score one of the earlier chances we likely score a few more goals. Hard to blame lennon for style of play, its what we have been watching these past 2 1/2 years. Great in full flow, laboured padestrian and slow when off the boil.

If lennon chances our style off the bat i dont think we get the points we have. Any chances to style are best done slowly and over several weeks and months.

If lennon gets the job i dont imagine we will see significant chances to the style, maybe we will play a little more direct at times.

Lennon and celtic will benefit greatly from a match sharpe ntcham, Kt, calmac, christie, rogic, griffith, benkovic and eduard

  5. Fool Time Whistle at 5.19 – enjoyed that read, thank you.

I have always maintained that performance is more important than the result. I like to be entertained when I watch Celtic and for long periods of today’s game I wasn’t. However, the adrenalin rush that comes with a last minute winner leaves me a little confused. Is it worth the anguish of the previous hour and a half, wondering where a goal is going to come from? Would I prefer to be sitting watching a very comfortable 4 nil win? You know, after numerous years on planet Earth I’m now not so sure. The feeling that I’ve experienced at the end of our games at Rugby Park, Tynecastle and Dens Park has been such a rush that I’m now questioning my own long held beliefs. Coupled with the knowledge that half of my work colleagues would have sat through those 3 games to the bitter end only to then be totally scunnered is also a rather pleasing thought.

  6. And while I remember….

Sportscene has now moved across to the new BBC Scotland channel. And it’s now on for an extra 15 minutes – 7.15pm till half 8.

We were the only one of the top 5 to win this weekend.

    Enjoy these days ;-)

Spot on… one person gave the Huns hope… the bogey man (to them) left for Leicester and gave them hope… for fellow Celtic fans to use this against Neil Lennon … well it’s their opinions … sometimes some fans would prefer us not to win … keyboards were primed at 96mins in Dundee …. so glad they had to turn off their internet devices :-)

A well expresed point of view.

    This particularly caught my eye:

” There’s been a serious bump in the road for our team – one that would have derailed almost any other club & team. A manager who radically overhauled the footballing function at the club left abruptly with no thought to continuity. ”

BR was, almost unarguably, the mose effective manager we have had since Jock Stein. To win three and draw one of the four difficult games since then is superb. Also, Lenny does appear to be more relaxed than before. that augurs well.

Most of the disagreement was not about people having a contrary opinion; that is a convenient figment.

There were posters not expressing joy or relief at full time but a resentment that their predicted result had not occurred. Some were even posting dissatisfaction with NFL- the guy that stepped into our breach – and wanting him gone. That is not just unhelpful , it is harming us for the time being.

Some have spent a whole season saying “If we keep playing like that, we’ll lose the next one”. Well they’ve been right 4 times domestically this season. Others have predicted doom for each season in our 8iar (and they too will be right one day).

As for your own post-match considered views , how about

“The game had 1-0 written all over it – but for the home team.”

We had 63% possession. We had 24 shots to their 8. We had 8 on target to their 3. We had 12 corners to their 5. Could it just be possible that it was YOUR fear we would lose rather than a rational assessment of the play. I shared that fear at times; there was danger in their counters…… but, more likely to win… that’s over-egging the argument.

and as for “Without looking up he pulled it back into the danger area” that’s just after-the-fact justification for your theory that we fluked it.

In common with most of our players, James had a poor game but, at that moment, he saw their Centre Half sliding down to block the cross, and he chose to play it into the danger area with a cut back. It was no accident and no fluke. It might have ended up on a Dundee boot as they were close to Edouard (but it didn’t) but, for sure, if he attempted the driven cross to Weah, it would have been blocked 99% of the time. He made the right decision to cut the ball back and he made it consciously; it is churlish to say otherwise.

So, feel free to express negative opinions; we all do it and I want that right reserved and respected for me and for you.

But there is a long history of CQN match day reporting being, how can I put this kindly, …………..a tad pessimistic about Celtic’s prospects.

Very few come back on afterwards and say “Well, I called that wrong”. Sure, did not some call for Edouard & James to be removed at half time? (and they had good reason to express those opinions but, in hindsight, they were wrong today and Neil was right to persevere).

Having a wrong opinion is not a problem at all; I have several of them every day.

When I predict Celtic will do badly and they prove me wrong, I am only delighted to be proved, yet again, an eejitt. I don’t try to justify it by saying “ah but, they should have lost.”

I’m off out tonight – will catch your reply later.

  10. Jobo, I think it was you who advised on After Life, binged on it yesterday.

Superb, Ricky Gervias brings a new look at life and death, Sad and funny.

    Thoroughly recommend it.

? Well said, though I’m not sure you have the right to say so.

    ;-)

  12. From BBC site:

But McIntyre felt the extra time was unwarranted.

“We never seem to get six minutes added on when we are looking for it. I found it strange to say the least,” he said.”

What I find `strange ` is that Mr McIntyre does not seem to realise that those six minutes were available to his team as well. ie the team that ` never seem to get six minutes added on when we are looking for it.`

    JJ

  13. Asupporterwhogotlucky on

“It was unfair to expect us to play the six minutes extra time, even though the six minutes were legit..because we had set out our stalls for a draw”

    Fixed that for JMcI

    C’mon the tic :-)

  14. David66 – it was and glad you enjoyed it. Some real laugh out loud scenes and some others that really made me think. Although I’m a Believer, his explanation in the final episode of why atheists should still be nice people living good lives has stuck with me!

Anyway, off to continue my watch of ‘Traitors’ now. Before the wine kicks in….

Great result 2day. Winning next 2 games should be enough to bring 8 home.

Those posters recommending After Life – don’t you think the language is appalling?

Too much use of the c word for me.

Just read back and caught up after making the tea………

So sorry to hear of your sad news.

  18. Call of Juarez- probably, but I think language aside it is a well thought out, thought provoking programme. Only my opinion of course.

I remember in 1988 we kept winning games like this, said to many that extra time is not exclusive to Celtic scoring?

Netflix has so much good stuff on it, that you wonder how the BBC and Stv survive, here in the UK obviously.?
