Everybody knows that results trump performance….fact….we play well and not get the points…ok we will accept…we play well and get the 3 points…it’s expected….we play badly, opionionated, and get the 3 points, we were lucky…we play badly and not get the three points…who to blame. ..it really doesn’t matter, 3 points are all…fact ;-))

  2. As we entered the 95th minute at Ibrox yesterday did any bbc radio shortbread hacks begin to question why the second half was running on ?…err

I found the despair at the added time at dens park to be very telling on the bbc pundits and commentary team.

So much so they absolutely primed the losing manager for his reaction who also made a complete arse of himself with the most ridiculous statement of the season which was not picked up on ‘obviously’ by the shortbread team.

“Its funny how we never get added time when we need it”??????????

  3. Great result, which is more important than the performance, which can be worked on.

Very trying 96 minutes staring into the sun not seeing a lot of creativity, however one burst to the byeline and cut back and all is well.

From my standpoint,Johnson should not have started,Burke should have played with Eddie as everyone knew they are hammer throwers,Toljan wont do under any circumstances, but perhaps no alternative due to injuries ,but Gamboa would have attacked more.

Regarding the 6 minutes, not uncommon, as recent as Ibrox Saturday, plus O’Dea and O’Sullivan?( No 7 ) were down for 3.5 minutes before any time for Ajer and 5 or 6 subs.

Delighted, as it consolidates our position, and allows injuries to clear.

GG – I lit an extra candle at the Sacred Heart, Cowie today

It is now designated to your brother, may his light shine brightly in your memories

    May he rest in peace

Are we still only 10pts clear ?????????- tbc

  5. TUESDAY 17TH MARCH 1981

Lá Pádraig inniú ‘s mar is gnách níor thárla aon rud suntasach, bhí mé ar aifreann agus mo chuid gruaige gearrtha agam níos gaire, agus é i bhfad níos fearr freisin. Sagart nach raibh ar mo aithne abhí ag rá ran aifreann.

Bhí na giollaí ag tabhairt an bhia amach do chách abhí ag teacht ar ais ón aifreann. Rinneadh iarracht chun tabhairt pláta bidh domhsa. Cuireadh ós cómhair m’aghaidh ach shiúl mé ar mo shlí mar is nach raibh aon duine ann.

Fuair mé cúpla nuachtán inniú agus mar shaghas malairt bhí an Nuacht na hEireann ann. Táim ag fáil pé an scéal atá le fáil óna buachaillí cibé ar bith.

Choniac mé ceann dona dochtúirí ar maidun agus é gan béasaí. Cuireann sé tuirse ormsa. Bhí mo chuid meachain 57.50 kgs. Ní raibh aon ghearán agam.

Bhí oifigcach isteach liom agus thug sé beagán íde béil domhsa. Arsa sé ‘tchim go bhfuil tú ag léigheadh leabhar gairid. Rudmaith nach leabhar fada é mar ní chrlochnóidh tú é’.

Sin an saghas daoine atá iontu. Ploid orthu. Is cuma liom. Lá fadálach ab ea é. Bhí mé ag smaoineamh inniú ar an chéalacán seo. Deireann daoine a lán faoin chorp ach ní chuireann muinín sa chorp ar bith. Measaim ceart go leor go bhfuil saghas troda.

An dtús ní ghlacann leis an chorp an easpaidh bidh, is fulaingíonn sé ón chathú bith, is greithe airithe eile a bhíonn ag síorchlipeadh an choirp. Troideann an corp ar ais ceart go leor, ach deireadh an lae; téann achan rud ar ais chuig an phríomhrud, is é sin an mheabhair.

Is é an mheabhair an rud is tábhachtaí. Mura bhfuil meabhair láidir agat chun cur in aghaidh le achan rud, ní mhairfidh. Ní bheadh aon sprid troda agat. Is ansin cen áit as a dtigeann an mheabhair cheart seo. B’fhéidir as an fhonn saoirse.

Ní hé cinnte gurb é an áit as a dtigeann sé. Mura bhfuil siad in inmhe an fonn saoirse a scriosadh, ní bheadh siad in inmhe tú féin a bhriseadh. Ní bhrisfidh siad mé mar tá an fonn saoirse, agus saoirse mhuintir na hEireann i mo chroí.

Tiocfaidh lá éigin nuair a bheidh an fonn saoirse seo le taispeáint ag daoine go léir na hEireann ansin tchífidh muid éirí na gealaí.

    (Translated, this reads as follows:)

St Patrick’s Day today and, as usual, nothing noticeable. I was at Mass, my hair cut shorter and much better also. I didn’t know the priest who said Mass.

The orderlies were giving out food to all who were returning from Mass. They tried to give me a plate of food. It was put in front of my face but I continued on my way as though nobody was there.

I got a couple of papers today, and as a kind of change the Irish News was there. I’m getting any news from the boys anyway.

I saw one of the doctors this morning, an ill-mannered sort. It tries me. My weight was 57.70 kgs. I had no complaints.

An official was in with me and gave me some lip. He said, ‘I see you’re reading a short book. It’s a good thing it isn’t a long one for you won’t finish it.’

That’s the sort of people they are. Curse them! I don’t care. It’s been a long day.

I was thinking today about the hunger-strike. People say a lot about the body, but don’t trust it. I consider that there is a kind of fight indeed. Firstly the body doesn’t accept the lack of food, and it suffers from the temptation of food, and from other aspects which gnaw at it perpetually.

The body fights back sure enough, but at the end of the day everything returns to the primary consideration, that is, the mind. The mind is the most important.

But then where does this proper mentality stem from? Perhaps from one’s desire for freedom. It isn’t certain that that’s where it comes from.

If they aren’t able to destroy the desire for freedom, they won’t break you. They won’t break me because the desire for freedom, and the freedom of the Irish people, is in my heart. The day will dawn when all the people of Ireland will have the desire for freedom to show.

It is then we’ll see the rising of the moon.

    ———

This was the final diary entry which Bobby Sands made. He was to die after 66 days on hunger strike on May 5th 1981.

“Our revenge will be the laughter of our children”.

  6. Packed in Sportscene after the usual prepared “debate”. Turned to ITV 4 to watch Betis v Barca and Messi has just delivered another free kick master class .

Looking at the Orcs game, Stevie G has obviously gone full pelt about Killie strong arm tactics to deflect from Goldsons hack at th end of the game. Big Mulumbu looks like he is enjoying being back at the Killie Pie stall.

  7. Dundee arguably had their best chance of the whole match very deep into the 6 mins added.

So their manager is talking out of his arse.

Not unrelated that we actually scored indirectly from that Dundee attack when they eventually pushed a couple of men forward.

Like everyone else on here.Who cares about the performance at this stage of the season.

Brilliant win in my book .

    8 in a row

  8. J McCormick

Goldson has “avoided” 2 straight reds in last two games … his straight leg in the Killie game was a cowards tackle .. but I think Bada Bing posted … we don’t want him ruled out on the 29th :-)

***Last Man Standing-returns Saturday 23 March 2019-Don’t miss out!!!***

    Good evening folks

We are now welcoming entrants for the return of our fantastic Last Man Standing competition which starts this Saturday and will be our final competition of the season.

The competition will follow the same format as before and to win the entire prizepot, all you have to be is the Last (wo)man Standing remaining at the end of the competition.

Not played before? Simply, select a uniquely different team from the list of football fixtures provided by us each week, and if you are the last (wo)man standing, then you win the prize. Remember you can only pick the same team once in any competition, so you need to decide when to play the big guns! Full rules will be emailed to everyone taking part

The cost to take part is £10 per entry ( you can have more than 1 entry if you wish), and just in case you falter in any weeks 1 to 3, then we even allow you to buy your history back for a further £10. How easy is that? Surely you must win it!

The prizepot is 50% of all entrance and “history buyback” fees, with the remaining 50% being paid over to good causes.

We will shortly announce our very special Lisbon nominated benefactor who will receive 80% of the donated proceeds and we are looking for our Seville nominated benefactor to be nominated by our entrants, so please let us know some worthy cause close to your heart and they could, if chosen, receive 20% of the donated proceeds

So if you want to take part please send us an email to cqnpredictor@gmail.com saying ” Count me in” and we will send you emails detailing the rules, how to pay your £10 and, of course, the first week’s fixtures in due course.

Please also feel free to encourage family, friends and work colleagues to join in, as they more that take part, means a bigger prizepot and more monies raised for good causes.

  10. Absolutely awful to watch today, however, the carnage at Eddie’s winner was a reflection of just how significant that result was today.

    Champions ole ole.

  11. Hail Hail Hamilton Tim, God Bless You. Their names will be remembered as History enfolds.

  12. GFTB

There is some value in that logic, to be honest I dont know who they would bring in and even more to the point, I don’t care. We are at home and should scare the shite out of whoever plays for them.

  13. HT 8.17pm

    Awful to watch ?

That football match like many others will be forgotten if 8 is achieved …

Remember there used to be an awful lot of games that were awful with no prizes at the end of the season :-)

  14. J McCormick 8.27pm

Totally agree… when “they” beat us on the 29/12/18 I knew we had to suffer a loss at one point … hopefully it will be at least another 12 games before they do it again …. maybe BR had his eyes off the prize … who knows

  15. Think everybody agrees it was a shite game but the key thing is we are 10 ahead with 8 to play. Skelp the Huns in a fortnights time and the 8 in a row is almost guaranteed. Didn’t think I’d ever live to see it.

  16. GG

You and yours will never walk alone sir.

Goodnight all and thank you for being here.HH

  17. Corkcelt 8.37pm

If the Huns were treated the same as Clyde you’d be witnessing a lot more than 8 …,

But in my lifetime 8 will be great :-)

  18. Hope wee Rory tops this St Paddy’s day off … got a couple of shillings on him winning the players championship …

Although golf is for the haves and not the have nots :-)

Suarez’s back heel for Leo ?

As for the Hoops, whilst the result was the most important, the performance was really poor today. With Sevco dropping points we had a chance to really go for it. We looked so flat.

We have an energised Aberdeen coming up in the cup and, let’s be honest, they’d beat us on that performance.

No idea why Oli played no part. No idea why NFL didn’t make changes sooner.

Sinclair was absolutely anonymous. Again. James has been very quiet last couple of months.

Manager needs to re-energise the team for a last push towards the treble treble.

  20. Fool Time Whistle on

Been out trying to walk off some weight so have only just scrolled through.

I just expressed my opinion on expressing my opinion on Celtic & how they perform.

Some agreed – sort of, some didn’t after a fashion while some were funny – Terje Vigen’s a naughty bhoy.

Thanks in general terms for any & all feedback.

There’s usually the same crowd on here for live matches – give or take. I get on for the live match stuff when I can & commitments allow. We all know who the regular update guys are & they do a great job. Today must have been a challenge to them because having something positive to say involved a creative use of imagination & vocabulary.

SFTB – your distinction between regular negative comments made & others that defy understanding is well taken. But the implication of that distinction became the issue for me.

At FT today though there were jibes by several people directed at those who had made unspecified but “disgraceful” comments about the game. The tone of comments critical of those who had criticized the performance also alluded to or questioned the validity of their support for Celtic. I have absolutely no problems at all with anyopne who disagrees with any of my opinions expressed on here, but I resent comments that impugn my integrity simply for having those opinions. it is an extension of the bad intent & name calling that often drives sane people away – just a little more subtle. Was I too sensitive? – probably but emotions were running high on so many levels.

I thought I made myself clear earlier but maybe not – it wasn’t objecting to negative comments, rather it was the labelling of those who expressed them as not real Celtic fans.

As far as the emotional stakes are concerned – I would ask those who expressed those opinions about other Celtic fans personally whether they were over-emotionally engaged in the relief of that last minute winner when they posted – just as those made their comments were over-emotionally engaged when we were playing crap for the previous 95 minutes today.

I’m very glad & relieved that somehow we found a way to score the goal we needed, but I confessed that immediately after the FT whistle I was too exhausted emotionally to register the delight that I knew I should be feeling. I’ve started to feel delighted since. I think that what you call a convenient figment is something I could suggest back to you but frankly it really doesn’t matter. I might not like your comments about me making comments but I won’t call you a name or sully your self esteem & integrity over it.

As for as my comment that “The game had 1-0 written all over it – but for the home team.” it’s a form of fallacy I believe – I will look it up one day. For 95 minutes or so we completely dominated the game in every way except in the way it counted in order to take the points. In the odd world of sport it is precisely those one sided affairs that sometimes produce the freak result – a defeat for the team who can’t score a goal to save themselevs. For 93 minutes we were that team – in that sense I made my comment. I am certain that my fear played a significant part in that but I wasn’t alone. It’s not really a stretch to fear conceding a goal in such a game when we are changing to a back 3 defence, pushing on & leaving gaps at the back – in my head anyway.

As for “Without looking up he pulled it back into the danger area” I didn’t say that to justify what you think was my argument. It was to point out that these 2 players did precisely what we should have been doing the whole game and NOT at all that this is how we fluked it. I think we as a team, having huffed & puffed for 95 minutes were lucky to win, but not that James & Odsonne were lucky. They deliberately did the right thing at last, but not because we had been prevented from doing that but because we had spent the whole game knocking on the wrong door. NFL’s relief was tempered by the same feeling – I think anyway.

As you say most if not all of our players had days they’d rather forget & until that beautiful moment James & Odsonne were in that group. The stars aligned, the space appeared & Eddie found himself with the ball at his feet, time to look up & wonders of wonders – a player on his wavelength.

I think we agree on most things including the freedom to express opinions.

For the record, I admit that I was more critical of Odsonne & got tired of seeing him elect to shoot when a better placed colleague was ignored or he trying to shoot when several blocking players were immediately in front of him. He has strengths & skills but playing with his back to goal & getting a shot off isn’t one. At one point today I referred to Celtic in a post as Tower of Babel Celtic – common language between our guys seemed at a premium. I wanted him replaced around 75 minutes & then NFL changed us to a back 3 and took Jeremy off. At that point my sense of foreboding kicked on a notch.

As for your last point, I didn’t say that we should have lost – only that we made very hard work of a fixture that should have been as much a formality as any could be. That may have gotten lost amongst my justification for being so jiggered & fraught during & at FT but, as others have said, in too many games have we played beautiful football against orcs only to have victory snatched unfairly from us.

We’ll catch up another time I think so HH & Happy what’s left of St Patricks Day.

  21. Corkcelt 8.58pm

    I hear you …

Rory is a terrific golfer but he’s no James MacLean :-)

  22. David 66, saw your post earlier asking after me, I am well my good friend, thank you for asking, bumped into drew67 a wee while ago, he was in good form, like u I’ve noticed a bit of radio silence from D D, hope he’s OK. You keep posting mhate and I’ll keep lurking or spying as D D calls it lol

  23. Corkcelt

I trust you’re well sir. The responses to the posts containing Bobby’s diary diminish each year but Ard Macha and I felt it’s worth continuing the tradition.

    VogueP

    Ya big dolt :-)

    GFTB

Gerry the game was absolutely shite, everyone surely must see that. The result though is possibly the most significant of the season! :-)

  24. It’s possibly better that I get the chance to comment on CQN now, as opposed to a few hours back.

Because the relief at the result only went someway to papering over what was a truly abysmal performance.

1st half was just about acceptable. We made a number of half chances, and could of been a couple of goals to the good by half time. That would have been a fair reflection of our domination.

However whatever Lennon said to them at half time, it did not have the desired effect. The lack of quality 2nd half, has not been seen from a Celtic side for 4 years. And as much as Brendan Rodgers team, had the occasional bad day, bad result…. I can assure you, the quality of play, never got as low as what I watched 2nd half today.

Now the reasoning behind this seems obvious enough to me. Although I may be wrong. Change of Manager, there is an obvious change in footballing ethos, football principles. Rodgers was all about control. Controlling emotion, controlling the play. Possession based football. Pass, pass, pass, and pass some more until you work the opening.

I am going to cut Lennon some slack in that he wants the ball played forward more quickly. He wants us to be more direct to an extent. And there could be an argument to say that yes, this would be a good thing.

BUT, and its a big but. I will repeat, whatever the instruction was 2nd half today, it was not effective. Worse than that, it was abysmal to watch. I understand the concept of a team transitioning between different styles. But seriously, I counted at least 5 occasions when Scott Brown in the middle of the park, 50 yards from Dundee goal… played a straight, long, high ball straight down the throats of the 3 Dundee central defenders, OR over hit it, and it flew straight out of play through to the Dundee keeper.

NOW, the question is… Is this Lennon’s instruction of direct play. Getting the ball forward quicker. Because if it is… it is all wrong. There are angles or area’s of the pitch where a ball in to the opposition box can be effective. But ridiculously straight balls from 45 / 50 yards out, in the centre of the pitch, is not the answer.

And to revisit the idea that the team is currently transitioning. I would go further and say, that both Aberdeen and Dundee today, Celtic look like a team without a playing style identity. Devoid of anything.

If Lennon wants the job, he has a lot of work to do. If he has a clear idea of how we should be playing, I am yet to see any evidence of it. He better get to work with them, and make sure he gets his idea’s properly across. Because, many more displays like today, and the treble treble will be a long-shot. And frankly if I am being honest, next season we can’t over the course of 38 league games, rely on luck as we did today. There needs to be more conviction and substance to our play.

Get the finger out Neil son

  25. Fellow Celtic fans going into the international break if we didn’t win today I think Neil would have been hung out to dry …..

Am a Neil Lennon fan (player & manager) but I can understand other fans wanting “better” if Marco Rose or Martínez or Sean Dyche is/are better who knows … but in my opinion it’s Neil’s ball and until Neil drops the ball and the Lawell cheap option Brigada and those pesky PS fitba managers decide different its Neil’s ball :-) please give us a treble treble Neil

  26. HT 9.10pm

I don’t usually disagree with you but the Bobby Sands diary posts are amazing and brings a bit of perspective on these pages … I hope you & Ard Macha keep this tradition up … I know for a fact it makes me have a wee minute to myself every time I read them … every single year

    It is pretty special ?

  27. We are doing ok, not pleasant to watch but not totally unexpected.

We have just lost the best fit manager since Jock Stein where we were taken to a level that most of us didnt think possible. BR’s football in his first season was magnificent and arguably the most entertaining to watch on these Islands.

At this present time results are everything, however going forward results will not be enough.

To fill our ground in the coming seasons we need a winning team , but winning in style that our fans want ( and equally importantly pay ) to watch.

We need to play football the Glasgow Celtic way. This is not entitlement it is reality and our management team know it.

    HH.
