Dunfermline debacle caution ahead of Motherwell

996

Do you remember the game after the Cluj Champions League debacle last August?  Of course you do, you are still chasing the cold from you bones, it was a League Cup encounter with Dunfermline at Celtic Park, where the Championship club took the game to extra time.  The game, the only domestic cup tie in 34 games we have not won in 90 minutes, was six minutes from going to penalties before James Forrest settled things.

I don’t know what happened in the dressing room between Cluj and Dunfermline but I cannot imagine it is a happier workplace this week.  This is Celtic and everything goes on the line every game.  Let’s not have a repeat of the Dunfermline performance.

I know a few Motherwell fans and they are unanimous in their praise of David Turnbull, their star 21-year-old midfielder who joined Celtic on a reported £3m deal yesterday.  Turnbull originally signed for Celtic in June last year, before failing a medical.  A knee operation, and the best part of a year in recuperation, saw him clinch his dream move yesterday.

The question now for the manager is, how does he shape his midfield?  Therein lies the answer to our season.

Welcome to Celtic, David.

(most hide behind a moniker but a number is just a number :-)

    Two questions

    1. Do you want Neil Lennon to succeed

    2. Are you a Hun

Just my opinion .. I could be incorrect but even when writing down you have many Hunnish traits .. I sincerely apologise if I am wrong ..maybe you have Tim Tourette’s when typing and can’t help slagging Celtic and our manager

  2. TuRkeyBhoy

Give it up. You’re pissing in the wind. Neil Lennon had an absolute nightmare on Wednesday. A total brain fart. Nothing can redeem it. You’re a day late and a dollar short. Please don’t try to persuade us that we witnessed something other than we watched on Wednesday. In a similar way to the Cluj game when we knew while still in transit to Celtic Park that we were screwed when we heard that Calum McGregor would play at right back, we knew on Wednesday when we heard the team announced on Radio Clyde an hour before kick off that Ryan Christie would play in Odsonne’s position that we were similarly screwed. Give it a rest.

The school issue is a worry for every parent .. apologies for bringing that to the blog … the wee yin is loving high school and was raging at GMB for slagging “her school” so that’s good :-)

I don’t mind one Celtic fan slagging Neil for the other night .. I turned my phone off because family & friends know I don’t want to hear a bad word about Neil … but am not daft he has made mistakes … but head in the sand stuff for me… until he starts losing trophies he will do for me …. by the way I have only dipped in and out of the blog not some of the posts I read I thought I was on a Hun site … again I don’t mind measured posts of our managers faults but funnily enough I missed most of them :-)

All the best Sid … keep keeping me tight :-)

  4. tight = right :-)

2001/2022 – player of the year David Turnbull

I’m no sure about Turnbull being player of the year for 21 years, now that would be impressive 😀

    2021-2022

Not like me to get something wrong :-)

J really like the Bhoy, guy that owns the shop in our scheme is a Motherwell season ticket holder and he asked me to say who I thought Turnbull was like “and he went to your mob” so without knowing too much about Turnbull apart from his goals I said Phil O’Donnell … the Motherwell fan said he is like Brian McClair … high praise indeed

    21yrs …. don’t you be keeping that post :-)

  7. Since it’s quiet …

Neil Lennon or not Neil Lennon

If you pick our Neil just post Neil Lennon

If you don’t want our Lurgan Legend you need to post your preference and why ? Feel free to ignore as most imposters will MasMitch .. NL will suffice

This is for all the posters who go blah blah Cluj blah blah Copenhagen blah blah Ferenvaros …. while enjoying unlimited success with domestic trophy after trophy

    GFTB – Neil Lennon

Hope nobody else takes part and then I am 100% correct

Where is Petec when I have a Bank Holiday weekend

  8. Since it’s just me ..

I know Neil isn’t perfect but see when we win just look at the joy…

Like every other supporter I think we should be winning more games in Europe but surely do you just want to win because we have more money .. football is sport and I love Celtic winning but at any cost ??? Leave that to PSG, Man City, Bayern Munich … surely the most enjoyable part of following Celtic is when we fail .., then we gather and go again … in all time we are stronger in adversity …. not sure winning every trophy in the past few years is “adversity” … Neil is not perfect but if there was one person that deserves our support it’s the Bhoy fae Lurgan who left Leicester & the EPL for Celtic for less money … sometimes we will only appreciate what we have when we don’t have them

    Neil Lennon CSC

He wants to be there ….

Petec … your better than me at this nonsense :-)

  9. Well a few days have passed since another European failure

    What to do ?

In Scotland we basically have to beat Sevco and mostly other poor quality teams to get to ten in a row

Europe. Different. In most cases we are up against teams who a coached well and use modern day European tactics with players who individually are less quality than Ours on substantially less wages

Will we go into next years qualifiers with same old tactics ??

We are not only a football club with a passionate support , but also a business

The failures in Europe ( twice out of 7 reaching CL when we are seeded higher than the teams we lost to ) have to be address

    So how ?

We need an investigation into the failures and work out how to change

We need someone with European experience know how to carry that out

    Question like

    1. The management team , who did Neil turn to for tactics support for eg cluj , Copenhagen , and the game the other night ?

    2. If answer was just John Kennedy , what European tactics and know how did he bring?

    3. Do we need an European experienced assistant manger , Eg last time Neil has big Johan

    4. Who is in charge of identifying players Eg who identified Shved? Why if it was the manger ?

    5. BR asked for an internal investigation into why with all his identified players , none were secured? What was result of that and were changes made ?

If we continue along this road we will become laughing stocks

Note : ten of teams in last years CL had less income than us

  10. the internet, like life. If you sift through enough shit you will find a pony. GFTB i like your stuff :) a handful of others. I thought the team selection was ‘mostly’ o.k. I dont think we were out tacted-ed. not clinical enough in the final third, a problem since the beginning of this season. We dominated the end off the first half and the beginning of the second, hard to make a change, tactically, when on any other Sunday a goal was coming. I thought the 2nd goal was good, very very close to offside but was good. 50-50. ElHammod booking was soft limiting his options for tackling. I thought he played well and like him better as RB than Frimpong at this time. Be glad when this year is over. The miasma of “i told you so..” brigade will be gone with the wind, one way or the other lol. peace. HH NL -Lazio skelper-

  11. when you want more… it means you are not happy with what you have and I am so so happy with my beloved CFC. A glorious decade of unprecedented success. The good, the bad and the very very uggly. The past is gone, the future is -fantasy. One game at a time, let the dice fly… viva vidi vichi

  12. SYDNEYTIM on 29TH AUGUST 2020 3:44 AM

Interesting last statement ” 10 of fhe teams in last years CL had less income than us.”

I wonder if that equates to the 10 teams having a team on the park that is valued less than ours ?

If so, there is only one logical conclusion.

    Cheers and HH.

  13. A new day. Still gutted but looking forward to tomorrow’s game.

    Interesting times.

    HH.

  14. Greenpinta. Good question. I am sure after their CL qualification and better coaching there value would go up

I think some European coaches with knowledge would help

Hello again all you young rebels.

Warming up nicely now on the rebel peninsula.

A gorgeous 21 degs here and spring arrives on Tuesday.

Nice wee barbie with a huge chunk of roast pork so

my mood is a bit better now after all the depression and angst

    of last week.

But still not forgiven the wantaways, so here’s my team for the

    Well game.

    Barkas

    El Hamed Julien Bitton

    Broony

    Frimpers. Mc Gregor. Turnbull Moi

    Christie

    Klimala

If They’re all fit of course.

Maybe some will think ” cutting off his nose to spite his face ” so

be it, i want bhoys who want to play for our Jersey.

    Feel free to disagree.

But me and Mr Rid Biddy know we’re right 8-))

    H.H. Mick

  16. Is the a possibility that Neil played Christie at centre forward due to Lawell not opening the purse

strings to get him the centre forward he really wanted who is Toney but who Lawell baulked at the transfer fee

Neil Played Calum McGregor at left back last year with probably the same issue of trying to get

Lawell open the purse strings and get a real left back

Lawell baulks at some transer fees then we end up buying cut price replacements who may or may not do the business for us

  18. Good morning cqn from a sunny Garngad

    Good morning David 66.

Exactly, pick the bhoys who want to wear the hoops.

    H.H. Mick

  20. a win tomorrow the a couple of weeks during international break

to hopefully iron out the problems we have

a signing or 2 would be nice too

  21. CelticForever – crossed my mind too but the implications are horrific. Gambling on 30 million jackpot to make a point would be just too childish to believe. He would have been sacked before he’d got out the building.

Putting all the emotions to one side, I would be surprised if PL did not read the riot act to Lenny the following morning. Klimala is not a dud, he is fast, has a physical presence and can score. If NL is sulking and refusing to play Klimala because he wasn’t his choice then it says a lot more about NL than PL. And I am not a PL apologist.

New players need to be given a chance, they need game time. With Griff being out since pre-season, Klimala should have been getting plenty of football in anticipation of the qualifiers. Like last season, we gambled on OE not getting injured. This tine it did not work.

  22. Morning folks

For everyone calling for heads, players are crap, etc

Europa league group stages 2019-20 – care to recall outstanding results ? Qualified after 4 games, guaranteed top after 5 – beat Lazio home and away, beat Rennes comfortably at home and had the better of a draw away and beat Cluj comfortably at home – dead rubber game away where we rightly rested players for the 9 – was Neil Lennon awful then, were the players crap then ? We had a terrible result this week, no question about that – we are certainly not doing well at the start of this campaign which is a worry but to read some of the posts on here you’d think we were totally inept all of a sudden. Don’t get it

  23. I wondered if Neil was bringing on Ajeti before Klimala as the polish guy was

    not his signing

Not fair on Ajeti actually as he is getting thrown in at the deep end when he

cant be anywhere near fit having not played in a year

  24. Just been reading back and it made for some interesting reading.

Bigger budget the the whole leauge of Hungary.

But what you forgot was we have more players.

  25. Why do you think MONs team beat so many big teams. It was because he had better player to choose from and probably the same budget, but the board decided that a new strategy was required for some unknown reasons.

This is not lennys fault, it’s the men at the top and don’t forget it.

  26. PITYMEVIN

    Agree with you

we are losing out on really good players by not spending a little bit extra

this is where the phrase speculate to accummulate comes in

Remember everyone was having a go at Lenny after last years hun defeat at Celtic Park

and look what happened after the new year.

  27. Morning Mick enjoy your roast pork and rid biddy and let’s hope Neil gets it right tomorrow HH ! 🍷😎💚

    SS,

He (Turnbull) is in the squad.

    ———

Yep. And I expect that will be to familiarise him with the match day process at Celtic. On the bench probably.

On the pitch, I would doubt it.

If I were Motherwell it’s something I would have discussed during the transfer process. Weakness the team AND play the player against us? Gonnae no dae that.

  30. Badgerhc

Some enjoy Celtic, some might not enjoy Celtic … but at least Celtic is something we all have in common :-)

    Are you a Hun ?

Not saw your moniker before apologies if you have previously posted … although if your on Neil’s side you have already won me over … during this mini shambles our manager probably needs as much “support” that he can gather

  31. Not fair on Ajeti actually as he is getting thrown in at the deep end when he

cant be anywhere near fit having not played in a year

shouldn’t be anywhere near Celtic Park.

  32. £5m for a player who hasn’t kicked a ball in earnest in a year and they wanted rid of , and we chased and begged him to sign , dearie dearie

  33. Melbourne Mick on

    G’day Gerry

Have you had any sleep yet?
