Economic consequences and remarkable irony

845

Spanish football, like its economy in general, in mired in difficult financial times, which, apart from one or two well-funded clubs, has restricted the budgetary scope of a large number of teams.  I had hoped all summer to hear we were on the case but it wasn’t until the final day of the window that solid opportunities materialised.

Marseille-born Tunisian international Lassad Nouioui is a complete unknown to all of us but his profile, earned at Deportivo La Coruna, fits the bill.  He scored a handful of goals as Deportivo finished 18th and dropped out of La Liga in season 2010-11 but hit the heights last season as they secured promotion.  It would be practically impossible for Celtic to sign a striker with the equivalent profile in English football, despite the apparent gap in standards between La Liga and the English Premier.  I’m also delighted to hear Levante, who finished 6th in La Liga last season, were so keen to capture him.

There is also something I like about the port-town mentality the people of Marseille have.  It’s very Glaswegian.  Lassad should flourish here.

I’m not sure what Phil Mac Giolla Bhain’s reaction was when The Sun called asking for an interview about his new book, which details the mainstream media’s failure to report the demise of Rangers.  “Are you joking?” may have been appropriate.  I had no prior notice they were running an interview yesterday and couldn’t believe the promotion they gave to a book detailing the failure of their industry.

This was not without consequences, of course, and The Sun got themselves into an incredible mess, today trying their best to backpedal, which is pretty much what the theme of the book predicts (irony #1).  Meanwhile there is a book publisher in Glasgow who cannot believe his luck.  Thousands of unwitting critics and a leading newspaper have ensured  Mac Giolla Bhain, who would struggle for a platform without the anger of others, has a bestseller on his hands (irony #2).

They will cause a riot cos a tele breaks down.

My point was that taking a few titles away will not matter in the greater scheme of things, but if the powers think that there could be civil disturbance, they will leave well alone.

And folk pay good taxes to feel safe on the streets, maybe if the authorities did their jobs, this would never have happened in the first place.

What am I talking about, they did their jobs, that’s why the country is in the state it is.

It’s not that bad at all here.

They have had to plummet new depths in chicanery. But hey, they’ve always been capable of lying to themselves. Their club is built on falsehood, lies and manipulation. A hollow club for hollow people.

I’ve always theorised that is why they are so unhappy and angry. How could anyone be happy living a lie.

No wonder they bark at the moon.

  4. TET,

the only hope we have is total change in the governing bodies,

the present ones have shown their true colours throughout the

entire episode, either that or our board make it a legal issue

or take it to uefa/fifa,not sure they have the balls for it

    agree with big Cup winners..

not as bad now as it was, although that is not for the lack of trying.

  6. Ach well, Back to the new world tomorrow after a wee break home. A couple of points noted – The sports shops selling all sorts of hun merchandise with scant option for tic’ supporters.

An insulting competition on the big screens at Parkhead asking punters to call in @ X per minute and guess if the club has been around for 10, 40 or 125yrs……Jeeeeeez.

My Canadian wife however was absolutely in awe of the energy and commitment of the Green Brigade, especially at the Helsingborgs game – and I have to say it was also my pleasure.

I think that the current TFOD2 media love in will collapse due to their over indulgence and the absolute absurdity of the situation.

The whole situation shames Scotland, it makes us out to be a haggis republic unable to run a football league so what chance nationhood?

We are told that having banks that were too big to fail was wrong and something needed to be done. The last 6 months show that we have learned nothing and we now have a football club that is too big to fail and now we have a succulent lamb chorus telling us that we all need to do something to keep them alive.

    Shameful, totally shameful.

As for the future I think that the situation in 12 months will look much different.

Thin squad full of exotic nonentities and has been true believers / hammer throwers will be stretched to breaking point. The opposition will be that bit better and the thrill will have gone.

Now this where their hubris could catch them out.

The push for league reconstruction because the deserve better.

How would their thin squad cope with full time opponents week after week?

They are struggling away in League 3.

They should struggle away in League 2.

    League 1?

I know where you are coming from BUT here is the crucial thing:

Unless they get a gerrymandered return their “loyal” fans will chuck it watching 2nd and 1st Division football and they’ll have a squad costing them their existence yet again with no friendly bank managers allowing them to run up the kind of debts they were under moonbeams.

James Forrest is correct – they are finished (at least for the foreseeable future). Without the possibility of CL football this makes Celtic in a Unique position to continue to dominate them and we could do another 9iar.

This will humiliate them and if they are still getting referees help (which form dictates is true) it matters not. They do not have the resources to beat us if we play to our potential and they know that in each of their black hearts.

    Stuff them.

The game is over, the rebels have won.

  11. gordybhoy64

They will never give up their power volentary, and there doesn’t seem to be any opposition to the status quo.

I still have thoughts that the club are more than happy for them to get back to the top asap.

I agree with ttt, we need to get away.

But I don’t think the club have the baws to resign, I think the threat of resignation would be enough to waken the powers up, but I don’t think it will happen.

It is getting to the point that many will walk away, the corruption is so much in your face now, and they are seeming to take great pleasure in rubbing our noses in it.

  12. Just watched the Barca v Valencia game……no amount of defend defend defend will stop them. A long range belter from Adriano gave them a hard fought win…..so….I switch back to the telly and the news is on full of puff pieces, propaganda, and royalist tripe.

BBC N.I. now showing Belfast in uproar. Loyalist scum. Sevco tops in abundance. Back to the future is the mindset of the hun today. Bad bad peepil. Ugly ugly ugly.

Is there any Celtic supporter who still thinks that we have a viable future in Scottish football?

There are many, life long supporters who will turn away from the game and, by extension, Celtic, if events run the course that they are presently following.

Agreed matey it would be great if we could get out of this league.

  14. Operation RFC. Is in full swing in the media

All the papers , all the radio shows and all the tv shows inc satellite are running the line that the “goodwill” was purchased by Green therefore they are the same club ….hunguffery !!!

The media are clinging on to their meal ticket . They have alienated most CFC fans without the Hun they disappear ….they are acting in their own interests

Thankfully I believe there is more to come …despite the media efforts they will be lucky to survive

If they do crawl their way back to the SPL using their usual brand of assistance …I cannae see me being interested in the on tinting farce that is Scottish football

  15. Re the fighting in Norn Iron.

We ,in this part of the world can always tell which side has been rioting with the psni with unswerving accuracy from the headlines.

Thus when it says that “one policeman and 12 civilians ” have been injured, we automatically know that nationlists were involved

Whereas if it says, as at the weekend, “47 psni officers have been seriously hurt” we,by the same token realise that loyalists were to blame.

    Sad but true.

Anyway on another totally unrelated,or is it, point I remember the argument about S.Pressley being a good or bad guy imo he is definately good.

When Neilly took him out with a bad tackle a few years ago the msm lined up pressley after the game to put the boot in to Neil Francis but, to the interviewer’s dismay mr pressley said ,when asked if he thought it was a nasty kick casually remarked that he didnt see anything malicious about it and that it was part and parcel of the game. Nice

Don’t know if any of the Irish CQN’ers have seen the new TV3 advert for their European coverage? Shows merchandise and Jerseys for all English clubs, Barca and a few more, but no mention or sight of Celtic (bar a glimpse of Neil Lennon on an iPad). I know I am not explaining this properly, but if you see the advert, you will understand what I’m saying. It is a disgraceful slight on Celtic. Irish Celtic fans need to have a setious look at this.

  17. I have never known of anybody going along to a mortuary, or a cemetery, & declaring that those inside these places are dead.

I am at a loss to understand why some of us on this site should indulge in such behaviour.

    They ARE dead.

    They don’t hear you.

‘ Let the dead bury their dead.’

  18. Just catching up on the news after a busy few days with family and then work.

Shocking statement from the Sun re:Phil. Is that slanderous? What blog post did they “discover” to be sectarian?

Absolutely laughable when you consider the MSM have given columns to Donald Findlay and Andy Goram – to name but two people not unfamiliar to sectarian controversy.

More likely they have taken a look at their circulation figures and decided they simply cannot afford to p!55 off their “loyal” readers.

A new low, for surely the most lamentable sports press in Europe.

  19. T3 @ 21.57

No matter what happens we as a support have to stick together and work with the club as best we can.

Getting on your high horse / walking away / splintering into factions will only hand the future to the TFOD2 and their Ludge driven booster club.

The best way to take the fight to them is a good quality, exciting and intimately fruitful CL campaign.

The media cannot ignore good results or they will look more stupid than ever.

In this the lack of an EPL opponent is disappointing.

However we have the opponents we need to put on a show.

Hopefully the foreign media who will be in town for these games can highlight the current TFOD luv fest for the absurdity that it is.

    Finally left field question

Why was HD ex Bonkle allowed to keep his Euro job?

  20. No amount of spin, glossy make up, dumbed down tripe, bread and circuses, can disguise the fact that we live in a nasty corrupt cruel and heartless ConDemNation with a parasite hun royal family at the apex of the whole scummy pile of dung.

    Off with their heads.

  21. Sixteen Roads,

Fascism itself was started by a former left-winger & life-long atheist, Benito Mussolini. The immediate impetus was (so far as I know) Italy’s failure to gain all that it had hoped from WWI, tho’ it did gain more than it deserved, viz. Austrian-peopled South Tyrol & Slav Istria. You’re right about fear of bolshevism being a factor in generating support for Nazism, but IMO it’s a mistake to draw too close a connection between it & Musso’s Fascism: they only established links much later.

Weeshaun’s suugestion that communism & fascism (or is it National Socialism?) were financed by the same people is a classic conspiracy theory: ususally, such theories are debunked tho’ occasionally they may be true.

Your own notion that Nazism was a Zionist creation is simply surreal: some cynical Zionists might have thought the loss of a few Jewish lives a price worth paying for the creation of Israel, but the Nazis aimed to exterminate all the Jews in Europe, which would have made it difficult to populate the new Israel.

You’re right to oppose communism & fascism, but I can’t see anything inherently evil about Zionism (the way it has unfolded is another matter).

I fear that weeshaun is right about us living in a kind of totalitarianism (albeit with a velvet glove on the iron fist), but I see it as being broadly anti-religious rather than just socialist.

BTW one shouldn’t shrink from criticising Zionism where there is just cause, but harping on about it does seem slightly 1933-ish.

That so-called transfer embargo – Does it mean that Sevco won’t be able to make any new signings in time for next season?

It runs from the 1st of September 2012 until the 31st August 2013 – i find it strange that it is seems to allow them to go and sign players on the last day of next season’s deadline, meaning in reality, that the only time they are barred from actually making any signings is in this season’s January transfer window.

A punishment of sorts, but not exactly a strong punishment.

  23. Leggat Jabba Spiers…the whole diseased rat pack of presstitutes…..blathering their unutterable guff on behalf of the lowest scum in the country. And they’re proud of themselves.

    I honestly don’t see that.

Ok, say they go bust again, and that is a distinct possibility.

I reckon that the likes of sir cardigan and his like minded are waiting in the wings to save them.

Real huns willing to save them, they would have a line of credit, they would have the hoards willing to pump money in.

The government will ride to the rescue, the fabric of the nation must be saved at all cost.

What is next seasons transfer window?

31st Aug is a Saturday, does that mean it will extend to Monday 2nd Sept?

If yes then they have pulled a flanker.

  27. Sisteen roads to Golgotha,

my understanding is that they are banned until midnight on

August 31st next year, therefore they cant sign players til Jan 1st 2014

  28. Sixteen roads…

The last day is the 31st Aug …they can’t sign anyone on the 31st Aug …therefore the signing ban covers the summer window

However the 31 aug next year is a Saturday ….will the transfer window be extended until the Monday ( next working day) 2 nd Sept…wouldn’t put it past these cheats

  29. Murdoch auld and hay at 9.48 pm “David Cameroon booed at paralympics for cutting DLA plans”. Yeah mate but according to the gruesome gang on earlier “socialism killing with kindness”. Meh. I expect paranoia from the far right but for one to actually admit socialism is about kind but then to put in a qualifier, much like how the media “praise” Celtic before claiming we were lucky, cheated or were not up against much…..

All on at once tonight, it was a full house, singing detective was there too.

Corporate fascism however is a real thing and only a dictatorship of the proletariat can stop the wars they want. The idea corporate firms fund socialism is laughable, when it threatens their very existance. But like I say these neoliberals have crazy theories not to far away from the shapeshifter theories.
