Economic consequences and remarkable irony

845

Spanish football, like its economy in general, in mired in difficult financial times, which, apart from one or two well-funded clubs, has restricted the budgetary scope of a large number of teams.  I had hoped all summer to hear we were on the case but it wasn’t until the final day of the window that solid opportunities materialised.

Marseille-born Tunisian international Lassad Nouioui is a complete unknown to all of us but his profile, earned at Deportivo La Coruna, fits the bill.  He scored a handful of goals as Deportivo finished 18th and dropped out of La Liga in season 2010-11 but hit the heights last season as they secured promotion.  It would be practically impossible for Celtic to sign a striker with the equivalent profile in English football, despite the apparent gap in standards between La Liga and the English Premier.  I’m also delighted to hear Levante, who finished 6th in La Liga last season, were so keen to capture him.

There is also something I like about the port-town mentality the people of Marseille have.  It’s very Glaswegian.  Lassad should flourish here.

I’m not sure what Phil Mac Giolla Bhain’s reaction was when The Sun called asking for an interview about his new book, which details the mainstream media’s failure to report the demise of Rangers.  “Are you joking?” may have been appropriate.  I had no prior notice they were running an interview yesterday and couldn’t believe the promotion they gave to a book detailing the failure of their industry.

This was not without consequences, of course, and The Sun got themselves into an incredible mess, today trying their best to backpedal, which is pretty much what the theme of the book predicts (irony #1).  Meanwhile there is a book publisher in Glasgow who cannot believe his luck.  Thousands of unwitting critics and a leading newspaper have ensured  Mac Giolla Bhain, who would struggle for a platform without the anger of others, has a bestseller on his hands (irony #2).

  1. How funny it would be if some of the Huns attracted interest and left in January or next summer.

With no new players they might struggle to field a team. Maybe we could make bids for Wallace, Templeton, Shiels and laugh no matter what happens.

Its not so much Vision as capacity to bring any vision into being.

Taking your point about improving relationship with the support it is not lack of will or intellect that has prevented progress but capacity to make things happen.

All focus and finance has been devoted to the football operation and rightly so. However I hope that some of that new income will be directed at capacity building. The membership scheme has not happened yet for various reasons one of which is capacity although I am waiting to hear that an offshoot is about to become a goer. Again it is lack of capacity that slows everything down so you have to be patient.

The opportunity to build the capacity to make things happen is now presenting itself and in as much as I can influence thinking in my own small way I’ll do what I can to get that message across.

The ending of the last episode suggests a very definite direction for the last 8 episodes. Used to like WW, not so sure now!

I have witnessed for years the corruption and knuckle rattling that goes on.

Its cost me in the past and is still rife.

The smugness of the hun worries me.

As I sit there in CP I get a warm feeling which is knowing that my club

Did not cheat to win games

Did not pander to the sectarian masses

Did not run away from its debts

But I will forever (which is a pretty long time ) know of a club who did. And you know what? I get a warmer feeling :)

Absolute tragedy about Michael Clarke Duncan.

I loved him as an actor and he was a great Kingpin in daredevil (where Colin Farrell ruined Bullseye).

    BTW

I felt dirty watching the New Doctor Who – that girl in the red dress was incredibly sexy and her voice gave me un-pure thoughts.

    I am a bad man.

Take your point, although you could argue that his motivation then was to protect his family. There can be no doubt now about what motivates WW.

“The Fan’s Revolution, when SPL fans held back from buying season tickets until they were sure their Chairmen would not let Rangers Newco back into the SPL, is documented also.”

After Roy McGregor voted “No”, instead of buying one season ticket, I bought two.

Sorry, I realise I’m out of kilter with the more noble discussions tonight…but ach well..

I have it on good authority that the man in overall charge at the Global Energy stadium has a VERY low opinion of Mr Cee Lo Green.

Words along the lines of “…..definitely only in it for the money, by his own confession….” was what I was told.

….but then again, we all already knew that.
