It’s probably rash to suggest Neil Lennon dismisses the inflated English market when trying to sign a striker in preference for the Continent. Europe has plenty of quality leagues, and gifted players, but it also has plenty of scouts.
The tops leagues enjoy blanket analysis, which has consequences. Our experience of Lassad and Miku suggests that if we can tempt a striker to move from the likes of Spain to Scotland there’s maybe a reason why. Even the secondary leagues, such as Slovakia and Poland, are scouted extensively by German clubs, who are the most desired destination for most East European players. The success rate in bringing targeted strikers to the club from Europe has been low, which had real consequences for this season.
So where does that leave us? Second tier teams in second tier (but still good) leagues, like Vitoria Guimaraes, who we bought Amido Balde from (strikers at top Portuguese clubs are aiming for the sky), go back to the English Championship, or maybe a peripheral league, like Sweden or Israel, again, or Iceland.
Celtic proposition is not without merit, we will now be touting Champions League football under the noses of every prospect, but finding a player capable of delivering the talent for that stage is the central challenge to the club.

The Kenneth Roy link makes disturbing reading.
Well let’s look at how we entice a player to sign for us:
You can play in the UEFA Champions League (when successfully negotiating 3 qualifying rounds)
You will be loved and cherished by a vociferous support (if you hit the ground running and don’t fall into the “work in progress” “long-term project” category)
You may get a move to a “better” team in a “better” league (Gary Hooper £5m Norwich, Victor Wanyama £12m Southampton)
Danny McGrain is on the coaching staff (…no sarcastic drawbacks here…)
The varied and exciting nightlife of Glasgow is open and available to you (the Subby and Riverboat Casino on a wet and cold rainy night is no obstacle to the urban nirvana experience)
BUPA? Rosshall?

Many years ago I served on the Disciplinary Committee of an amateur league.
If a player as much as raised a pinkie towards a referee he copped it, for we depended on the goodwill of referees (some who refereed at more senior levels) and did all we could to protect them.
When Calum Murray offered his defence of Bougherra I could only imagine at the chagrin this would have caused amongst his fellow referees.
Well that is imagination for you. Not a peep (in public anyway).
But now that the corrupting force that was Rangers has been parked, if not removed, the same guys find their voice?
Changing the ways that referees are appointed and monitored should be a priority after removal of those who began, aided and abetted in the corruption of our game.
I was looking at USA Goals and some of the matches featured were for the Italian Tim Cup.
I kid you not. Anyone know what this is?

Cheers mate was hoping there was a creditor out there who would challenge same club myth legally if funds could be found to support them.
Big Nan, petition signed.
It makes you think about the mindset of one who would be a ref. I know there are a couple of CQNers who have sons who ref. I tried it once in an 11s game (an organised kickabout) and that was enough for me. Desire to be involved in the game?
Big Fraser…….get rid…look at this jumper.

Ross Mc Cormack scored again for Leeds. Would he be worth bringing back??
Maybe a long term replacement for KC???
voguepunter,
Yes, Naka did score with a header.
I can’t tell you when or where – but I can see it in my mind’s eye.
I hope this clears things up for you. ;)

Calum Murray’s ‘take’ of those handling incidents was both staggering and outrageous. Not surprisingly not much media debate if I recall at the time.
I think we scored a huge own goal in participating in the summit afterwards as it definitely took the spotlight of the real guilty parties
Voguepunter
Did Naka ever head a ball never mind score with one?!

I spoke to a local amateur ref the day after Bougherra man handled
Callum Murray. He assured me that Bougherra would cop a
significant ban as the safety of referees was paramount, especially
at the lower levels of the game !
The decision to fine but not ban him was beyond belief.
I have asked Paul67 to forward my e-mail address to you regards
the corruption you mentioned earlier.HH

Big Nan @19.33hrs.Petition signed earlier today. Very glad I did after reading the link to Kenneth Roy’s article.
If anyone is undecided please take the time to read this topical six part piece, remembering this happened in 2005. Something seems amiss and the family need to know. Scottish justice needs to know.
HH, Always in Celtic.
Think Naka scored with a header .v. Dundee Utd.

Totally agree Paul but, miracles aside (Henke anyone?) we are not likely to find him unless the stats are right and, biscuit tin forbid, we splash a wee bit of cash.
Rumour, spumours but, seriously, Tomlin and Vaughan? Read Bangura and Lassad…
To be honest your leader reads like an Italian-American shrug with a sprinkle of ‘whad are ya gonna do’. Could do better???
I made a pasta from scratch today.

No – think it was the 2-2 draw at CP.

Lassad was a good player. He never really had a run in the team. His first touch was terrific and he had an eye for goal.
I don’t think he settled. Pity.

@GrahamSpiers 4 creditors of Rangers have went bust due to monies owed by Rangers. Is there a worthwhile story there?

The only reason I remember was – WGS stormed out the post-match MSM conference cause he was getting it tight about us losing a late equaliser.
Excellent compare and contrast between Bougherra and Ciftci…..what we are up against in the nonbhoys network
Incidentally….that shower of overpaid under performing wretches should shut it lest someone takes them to task for the incompetence
As for Dougal rentagob Hun
