Europa door ajar for Celtic

3233

When we drew Maribor I wrote about their performance in last season’s Europa League, when they were eliminated by eventual winners, Sevilla.  Our man, Blaz, in Slovenia, also warned me that this was a settled team who had improved since ending Rangers’ interest in European football three years ago.

I watched Red Bull Salzburg destroy Ajax in Amsterdam last season with some sublime football, and my pal in Austria tells me not to put too much store in their 3-0 humbling by Malmo, who, apparently, rode their luck to an incredible degree.  Having said that, on the balance of probabilities, they are by far the top seed we would have chosen.

As Croatia Zagreb, Dinamo Zagreb bossed Celtic out of the Champions League play-off round in 1998, our first attempt at the tournament.  Zagreb’s stock has fallen since, so while you could make a good case to suggest we are far from ready to tackle any European team right now, this is a good draw.  They are also not Legia Warsaw, which would have been an unwelcome confrontation at this time.

So far, so good.  Then we draw a complete unknown from pot 4, who happened to eliminate Lyon in the last round.

Between now and the middle of next month Celtic have to be ready for these challenges.  We have an opportunity to progress in the Europa League, earn some badly needed coefficient points, and revenue in the second half of the season.

Bring it on.

Just a quick one for any thick voters, you are not voting for a political party or person , GOT IT !!!!

a very clever man who i work with told me the other day he was voting no because

“i dont like salmond, and he would be the first president of scotland”

    Please show the evidence?

Personally couldn’t give a flying feck about the outcome of the referendum, as I don’t have nor want a vote in it.

Monetary issues will be agreed by consensus

    Grow up….ffs

Monetary policy will be dictated by the Bank of England though, won’t it?

And the Scots will have no control over it whatsoever.

We will in fact become the vassal state the nats claim we are at the moment.

First up guys, thanks to some of you for your kind words. Despite the occasional family member who thinks farting everytime certain others open their mouths is witty and a substitute for debate, it is a genuine, genuine pleasure to be back.

Know what I’ve learned since I’ve been away? That building bridges is a lot more fun than putting up walls. The latter saps your soul and keeps out the light, the other connects keeps the family strong.

This family is strong, despite its differences. Those differences and the way they are debated is what will keep it that way.

I am not campaigning actively. I am just trying to correct the assumptions around a Yes Vote being a Celtic Vote.

My views have been expressed before and boil down to:-

The change is not worth the effort.

I am happy to express my Scottish Nationalism culturally and via the fitba team- I do not need new borders- I liked Margo McDonald as someone whom you could have a good laugh with but she was dead wrong on the 90 minute patriot jibe- More countries should resolve their differences and express their nationality on the fitba field. That would be much better than flags, parades and defence forces.

I don’t think Scotland is a naturally left-wing country. It just expresses itself that way as a reaction to England much as the Tartan Army changed in response to English football hooliganism. I think a Scots Tory party, post-independence, would poll at high levels, especially where the SNP vote is strong.

And I find the Yes campaign’s electioneering efforts to have been just as much Project Fear as that they projected on their opponents.

There is much more but I have been summoned to watch Doctor Who with my good lady wife and, with all due respect, I might get more out of that than remaining on here.

Tories are around evens 11/10 to have most seats. Labour are odds on.
