Europa door ajar for Celtic

3233

When we drew Maribor I wrote about their performance in last season’s Europa League, when they were eliminated by eventual winners, Sevilla.  Our man, Blaz, in Slovenia, also warned me that this was a settled team who had improved since ending Rangers’ interest in European football three years ago.

I watched Red Bull Salzburg destroy Ajax in Amsterdam last season with some sublime football, and my pal in Austria tells me not to put too much store in their 3-0 humbling by Malmo, who, apparently, rode their luck to an incredible degree.  Having said that, on the balance of probabilities, they are by far the top seed we would have chosen.

As Croatia Zagreb, Dinamo Zagreb bossed Celtic out of the Champions League play-off round in 1998, our first attempt at the tournament.  Zagreb’s stock has fallen since, so while you could make a good case to suggest we are far from ready to tackle any European team right now, this is a good draw.  They are also not Legia Warsaw, which would have been an unwelcome confrontation at this time.

So far, so good.  Then we draw a complete unknown from pot 4, who happened to eliminate Lyon in the last round.

Between now and the middle of next month Celtic have to be ready for these challenges.  We have an opportunity to progress in the Europa League, earn some badly needed coefficient points, and revenue in the second half of the season.

Bring it on.

I would rather have the “real labour, working class labour” party back in power in my beloved country. I honestly believe these candidates are out there and are, at the moment, rubbing their hands at the outcome on the 18th Sept. For heavens sake, how long do we have to be ruled by a government that is dedicated to bleeding this nation and decrying us of our inherited wealth, before we wake up and see the destruction they are contributing on my nation. Incidentally, I am not SNP supporter, and never have been. I am a Scotland Supporter. Goodnight.

  4. NOTA party

NOTA was registered as a political party with the UK Electoral Commission on the day 2 March 2009.[32] It is the intention of NOTA to field candidates in every UK parliamentary constituency. The respective NOTA candidates will not continue in office should they receive the most votes. It is merely a mechanism to facilitate a means of recording a NOTA vote. This party is registered as “NOTA” and not “None of the above” as the latter is a prohibited expression regarding registration as a party name.[33]

No Candidate Deserves My Vote! party

“No Candidate Deserves My Vote!” was registered as a political party with the UK Electoral Commission on 23 November 2000.[34] The No Candidate Deserves My Vote party’s single objective is to introduce a bill to Parliament to have a “None of the above” option added to every local and general election ballot paper of the future. They feel this will allow the UK electorate to exercise their democratic right to vote to say that none of the parties currently represents them, which will encourage their democratic responsibility to turn out to vote. If a candidate wins an election it is the intention to stay as a Member of Parliament until the change in the law is enacted. Only then will the candidate step down and the party be disbanded.

It is the intention of the party that if a NOTA gains the majority vote that it should cause an automatic by-election. The idea being that the majority have given a Vote of No Confidence in the candidates. If the same candidates stand under the same policies then the electorate simply vote NOTA until the candidates change their policies to something that the electorate can vote for.

In 2010, Stephen Phillips of Stevenage ran for the UK general election on behalf of No Candidate Deserves My Vote.[35] Phillips received 327 votes, or 0.7% of the vote, placing 7th out of 9 candidates.[36]

    Zero, None Of the Above

None Of The Above Zero was a candidate at the 2010 UK general election in Filton and Bradley Stoke.[37] Previously known as Eric Mutch, he changed his name by deed poll to stand under that name. As candidates are listed by surname first he appeared on the ballot paper as “Zero, None Of The Above,”[38] in effect giving voters a none of the above option since had he been elected he would have resigned immediately.[39] He came last with 172 votes.[40]

Why is our esteemed(sic) PM pleading to the Scots to stay “with us”. Aye right, he knows the UK economy will go tits up if we vote “yes” and that puts Scotland in a really powerful position. so you reckon we are better having someone else controlling our Country, how can that make sense in any level?

  14. paolosboots FC before PLC on

Magnificent7, if it can work economically, socially etc then i’m for it, however there is no denying that the downturn in 2007 was better absorbed as part of the UK. I was far from impressed by our so called & lauded financial sector & its contribution to huge losses, RBS, HBOS, etc, (HBOS, from my experience in Ireland thew money at everything & anything with 100% mortgages) if Scotland were independent & that happened then we’d be donald ducked imo.

Why do I have this nagging feeling that the TM season is upon us again ?

I had big hopes for our new manager, I still do, just have a thing tapping away in the head that tells me something is no right.

Will he get swayed by the media, will he be affected by the fans shouting for him to go, all led by the media, what do they fear, a revelolution, a Celtic team sweeping all before them in sevcoland, a distinct poss, will he be given the chance, who knows.

Problem I have is who do we bring in, they will be working to the same remit, no spend, the club decides on players in, coach them, all very well in the grand scheme of things, but when the players are shite, what chance any new coach ?

We will prob win the morra, but it won’t be easy, PH will have his team wound up, I don’t think they will try and kick us off the park, I would hope not, we will see.

Sort the referees Pedro, you run the game do you not, all we want is a level playing field on the park, never going to get it off the park so, on the park would be a start would it not.

TET, our scouting system is poor. They should be looking at all those clubs who didn’t make the Europa League group stages and the £3-5m this may bring in in terms of prize money , crowds etc this will be a huge loss to clubs who are desperate to reach this stage. Surely we should be using our financial might to prize away their best players?
