Europe a sideshow to league duty at Fir Park

1000

A Europa League tie against Rennes on Thursday would normally set midweek pulses racing but when Celtic have such a crucial game ahead in the fight for second place Neil Lennon has a major decision to make, does he rest players for the Motherwell game?

Sunday’s game at Fir Park is set to become one of the most important games of the season for Celtic and I’m sure Neil would prefer a clear midweek to prepare for it, but resting players, with the inherent increased chance of defeat, could further damage fragile morale.

Celtic need a confidence boosting win but they need heads focussed on beating Motherwell even more. The consequences of defeat on Thursday are unpleasant, but the consequences of defeat on Sunday are incalculable.

What is the difference between discussing this rumour and the one referring to fights at Lennoxtown?

Answer: It is ok to paint the huns in a negative light but we are forbidden to suggest anything controversial may be happening at our own club.

It’s laughable when you consider that most of the posts on this celtic blog by so-called celtic supporters are negative about celtic.

Selective censorship. That sounds like a great idea!

I’m all for rumours. The more the merrier. Especially the ones emanating from Murray Park.

What do you think? Should the Hun players have something to worry about if they get a serious injury and the Huns go in to administration?

    Saltires en sevilla.

I did miss your question last week regarding my thoughts on the Famine song.

I think it is a great song, i love it, and i might add have sang the song on many occasions.

I would point out that first and foremost i am a big supporter of Glasgow Celtic the football team, and have been since the early 60s.

To me the famine song has nothing to do with football. I go to the games to watch my team as often as possible, and have no interest in the singing of songs which dont relate to football. Hope this answers your question.

One of the reasons I started posting on here is because the blog is a positive place for Celtic fans to post on the whole. If I want negative stuff about Celtic I am spoiled for choice. The mainstream media have been providing that service all my life.

    —–

Couldn’t agree with you more but the last place I want to look after a poor celtic performance is this blog. If I found comfort here I’m sure I would but, on these occasions, 90% of posts just slag off the players/club.

It’s not rumours from lennoxtown that pollute the blog; it’s the unrelenting negativity of too many of those who define themselves as faithful through and through.

I read with interest that Jos Hooiveld is doing a really good job at Southampton. I never got to see him play for the Bhoys mainly due to him being injured or out of favour.

Have we made a mistake with him, if he is in Southamptons team at the top of the Championship he cant be all bad. That league is much stronger than the SPL. As anybody seen him play for them, and how good is he like as a player.

Edson Brahfheid just played in a world cup final, Scheidt got capped by Brazil.

The daily blessing will commence in 5 minutes time.

At which time a wee prayer will be offered up to those relentless and dedicated officers of Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs.

  14. There’s a rumour that Rangers are in big financial trouble and could go into admin in the next month or two.

The press will have a field day if they get hold of this. Ummm….well, maybe not.

  15. David Peter Deans,

I reckon Hooijveld might well be a good player. Anyone playing for Southampton at the minute should walk in to our team. They are the form team in a league which is a level above the SPL. I watched them on Saturday evening’s programme. Hooijveld didn’t look out of place at all.

  16. Being a sensitive soul, I try not to comment too much on Celtic matters since people usually shout at me and I feel the tears welling up. But tonight I am going to comment about those who are suggesting we shouldn’t care about Thursday….you are wrong!- well for me anyway. I have never gone to a Celtic game ‘not caring’. I have never even gone to Celtic game not thinking that would win. Whether it was Barca, Man U, Arsenal, Nantes, Boavista, Porto, Inter, AC, Basel, FK Sudova or a thousand others home and away I want to win, I expect to win but most of all I care.

As I leave for the game, I care.

As I come through Bridgeton that care turns to a smiling determination that says ‘we will win and we will win it playing like Gods’ and then as I swipe my card or ticket and smell the stadium and hear the crowd, and of an evening see the floodlights lighting up the ground like the brightest of emeralds the world has ever seen, I get a feeling that surpasses care, leaves determination in its wash and turns to a lip licking expectation of a feast and a tremor that vibrates in every cell in my body.

As the team come out and the voices soar, I play the game in my head before the team have even taken the field and we win usually 7-1.

During the game I kick every ball, slide every pass, make every save, and make every tackle.

    At the end I’m exhausted.

When I stop doing all of that, when I stop feeling all of that, when I stop wanting all of that…I suppose I’ll have stopped caring and you can screw the lid down. But as you do, take a minute to listen and you may hear a voice from afar singing the Celtic song.

I’ll still care and something as minor as death isn’t going to stop me.

Right youse can all shout at me now, but remember you’ll make me cry.

    Hail hail
