European football disinformation

657

I’m hoping suggestions Stefan Scepovic and Kris Commons are struggling for fitness for Thursday is a classic attempt at European football disinformation.

Back in July I wrote about Commons “dependence on one creative talent feels like an unnecessary vulnerability”.  We remain (unnecessarily) dependent on our only creative talent, as subsequent games without him have established.  If he’s not in the starting line-up, we’ll need a radical change of system.

Bringing a second creative talent to the club should be a priority.  On this subject, I hear Bosnian fulcrum, Semir Stilic, who we were reportedly interested in a few years ago, before he detoured for a indifferent spell in Turkey, is now back in Poland with Wisla Krakow and eclipsing his earlier form for Lech Poznan.  We could do worse.

Shocked and stunned at the news Rangers International’s nomad, Daniel Stewart Securities PLC, have had trading in their shares suspended by the Stock Exchange as they were unable to file their accounts to year-end 31 March 2014 on time.  The Ibrox club’s board will be incredulous that the diligence they carried out to ensure they were dealing with an advisor of standing overlooked some fundamentals.

Four days out from the Great Scottish Run, which I’m doing for the Foundation’s work for Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty.  This is our Foundation, established and run by Celtic fans for 19 years.  It’s an important part of the story of where our club came from and what’s important to our mission.  Any donations here, from £1 up, are welcome.

Thanks to everyone who has helped.

Thanks but the particular Villa we’re thinking of renting is in Calpe ;-). The property itself ticks every single box except it’s location (perhaps). An 8 (EIGHT) bedroom detached villa with own pool just under £400 for the week is pretty tempting, even though there’s only 4 of us going. Might be worth considering for a future CQN convention!

Was at Calpe a fee years ago, great hotel right on beach. Very nice place, with an old town centre, lots of Germans about , it was April when we went. Very quiet but very nice, just my opinion.

  4. On Michael Stewart’s critique of ‘Super’.

A few weeks ago, I heard him on Shortbread, recounting how Super had phoned him the morning after he (Stewart) had commented on the apparent lack of tactical nous being shown by Sevco.

What struck me at that time was how he took the phone call in his stride and didn’t seem in the slightest bothered.

On the mutterings on Shortbread staffers: I was reminded recently of the perspicacity of Chick Young who remarked that McCoist was ‘the glue which held the club [sic] together’.

That’ll be a variety of Super Glue: they can’t shake him off and he can’t walk away …

So Rony has put his head on the block and said he wants 10 points in order to qualify from the group stage of the Europa Cup. Now if we dont achieve that how many Celtic supporters will class him as a failure ? H.H.

From one of your earlier posts – you have every right to post your opinion – might not agree but it is a forum for opinions

  14. On the day that Celtic buries a HERO, the Idiot Brigade want to promote their own insignificant & worthless selves.

  15. So RD is ‘targeting the treble’… what is he supposed to target? Winning the league, loosing the Scottish Cup Final and going out of the League Cup in the quarters? He is probably answering a stupid question with only one answer, but I don’t understand why the media ask it.

Tom Mac. Naw fella he has set 10 points as the players target. At least it is positive and I would rather have that but it makes him fair game for the negs if we dont achieve it. H.H.

  19. Joe,

As tom has kinda touched on, it’s all about qualifying from the group. I couldn’t give a flying one how many points we do it by.

He’ll be no more a success if we do it with 11 than failure if we go through with 9.

  20. BT Glad the op is behind you. Hopefully this is the end of your troubles. Will say a wee prayer for your full recovery tonight.

AN attack-minded Dinamo Zagreb will be the perfect fit for Celtic, according to Ronny Deila. Speaking ahead of Thursday’s UEFA Europa League tie at Celtic Park, the Hoops boss believes that Zagreb’s desire to attack will play to his side’s strengths.

The Croatians kicked off their European campaign with a comprehensive 5-1 home win over FC Astra, and they head to Glasgow full of confidence.

However, the Celtic manager believes that the confidence and ability within his own squad will prove vital on the night.

“They have started their season well and have started fantastically in the Europa League with a very good result against FC Astra, so it seems they have quality,” explained Ronny Deila.

“We need them to attack us and we can attack them as well. We go out onto the pitch tomorrow and it’s going to be a very good game.

“I think Dinamo are quite similar to Salzburg. We have analysed them so we know the good things and the bad. They are a team that likes to play 4-3-3 with good creation on the sides and the wide areas, and also good on the ball. But defensively, there are opportunities there to create things and that is our task – to get intensity into the game and control it.”

As he looks to build on his side’s 2-2 draw with Salzburg in Austria, the Hoops boss believes his team have improved since the opening group game and that the support of the Celtic Park crowd can help them to victory on the night.

“Every time we play at Celtic Park the crowd is important,” he said. “We’ve had some good results at Celtic Park this season with Dundee United and Aberdeen and that’s all because of the fans.”

SCOTT Brown says that Celtic are focused on getting all three points when they welcome Dinamo Zagreb to Celtic Park in the UEFA Europa League this Thursday night.

The Celtic skipper is looking forward to another European night at Paradise and believes that a strong performance at home is essential if the Bhoys want to progress from their group.

He said: “It’s going to be a hard game. We’ve seen a video of them and they look a strong team. They’ve got great players there as well and we’re really looking forward to it.

“We’re also looking forward to getting the fans along to another European night at Celtic Park, which is great for the club.

“We want to try and play against the best and this group is going to be hard for us but I think we’ve got the players in the dressing-room who can definitely do it.

“The lads are looking forward to it and the fans that I’ve spoken to are looking forward to it too.

“Obviously we want to try and go as far as possible and our aim is to try progress from the group. Tomorrow is hopefully going to be one step closer to it.”

The game against the Croatian champions follows on from the back-to-back wins over Hearts and St Mirren, and the Celtic captain believes that both victories have boosted confidence within the squad.

While fully aware that his team face a tough test against Dinamo Zagreb, Brown feels the entire squad will benefit from the experience of European football this season.

He said: “We want to improve with every game. We’ve had a couple of bad results, we know that but we’ve also had some great performances so we need to put the great performances in more regularly and we need to try and up our game at home and away in Europe as well.”

  24. Friends – thanks for the Calpe comments so far. Will probably have a car for the week so if it’s within striking distance of enough to do places it would be fine. Just to convince Mrs Baldie as well as Mini and his burd!

    Did I say it had 8 bedrooms? That’ll be 2 each ;-)

  25. A random thought from sunny Icmeler, most impressed with the new colour-coordinated traffic cones in the Celtic Way and around the front of the stadium – very appropriate I feel. Good luck to the bhoys tomorrow night, our family will be represented by the next generation: my ghirl and bhoy will be in our seats while we watch in a bar in sunnier climes. But we will be back there on Sunday.
