FORMER Celtic defender Gary Caldwell is poised to take over as boss at Exeter City.
The ex-Scotland international has been tipped for the vacant post after Matt Taylor left for Rotherham earlier this month.
Caldwell, 40, has been out of work since he was sacked from his assistant’s post along with manager Shaun Maloney, his one-time Hoops team-mate, by Hibs in April.
I’M IN CHARGE…captain Gary Caldwell in action for Celtic.
The ex-Wigan, Chesterfield and Partick Thistle boss is now the frontrunner to succeed Taylor at St James Park, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
Ironically, Exeter, who sit eleventh in League One after taking 18 points from a possible 42 this season, face Scott Brown’s Fleetwood Town this afternoon.
Caldwell will not be named in time to face his former Parkhead colleague.
Hoops hero Broony took over the English third-tier club in the summer after quitting Aberdeen before the end of the season.
