Exploiting a vulnerable man, the drive to Bristol Airport, WW in the UK

611

There is a degree of public interest in reading about, or listening to, spivs exploit the stupidity of some football fans to bring a club to its knees, but the sight of a tired and emotional looking Malcolm Murray stumbling away from an event is neither entertaining nor of interest to anyone with a sense of humanity.

Have you ever seen a drunk football player or official?  I have.  It has never been news before nor should it be now.  If the man has an actual problem the first response from his club and the wider game must be to offer support for one of our national illnesses.

The fan with a phone camera probably knows no better, but passing-round a recording of when a Frankie Howerd impersonator confronted Murray about his alleged problem is truly awful.

The audio was almost certainly not uploaded onto the internet by ‘Howerd’ but it was his decision to make and distribute the recording.  I hope he informed Murray the call was being recorded.

10 years ago today five of us filled a car and drove to Bristol Airport, the nearest available departure point for Scot’s leaving for the Spain; more-local airports were booked out within minutes of the event ahead being confirmed.  Bristol is a small airport but the place was full of other Celtic fans who had travelled south for the same purpose.  Every departure point in the land was filled by green and white.

A remarkable exodus was underway, it was a privilege to be part of it.

Great news, Willie Wallace has made the long trip from Aus and is now in the UK.  Looking forward to catching up with him next week.

I see contributing to Willie’s autobiography has had a dramatic effect on Rod Stewart’s career!  He’s just reached No. 1 in the album chart for the first time in decades.  Hail, hail, Rod.

You can pre-order the autobiography in Willie’s own words, with Rod’s contribution, Brogan Rogan’s best writing yet, and Archie MacPherson’s fantastic scene setting (“the best team I’ve ever seen”) with the link below.  Willie will be signing all copies ordered now just as soon as the presses roll.

Nostalgia overload.  Need to hold it together for tomorrow.

Just read your post re British Isles. (BI)

I remember I was taught in my Catholic school in Glasgow that the term BI merely referred to the islands that are part of the British and Irish states excluding the Channel Islands. It was all just the widely accepted name of a geographical feature and had no political connotations. This was grumblingly accepted by many in the class. Years later I was in the company of several Irish friends and referred to the British Isles. No political connotations. Aye, Right.

I also mind years ago when the Celtic View used to run a Spotlight on a Fan type feature and one fan was described as coming from Londonderry. Said fan wrote back to advise that not only was he from Derry but he had advised his interviewer of the fact – someone in the Celtic View had decided to ‘correct’ said fan.

I should get a life but I sometimes wonder about Celtic’s bureaucracy. Still I got to speak to a Bond girl today and have discovered that she believes Britain should be a republic and turned down an honour

SFA waiting on outcome of a club investigating itself, couldn’t make it up!

Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan has described alleged links between former Rangers chief executive Charles Green and Craig Whyte are a “very serious issue”.

The governing body will wait until the outcome of a report, commissioned by the Ibrox club before deciding any action is required.

In April the Ibrox side appointed investigators from Deloitte and Pinsent Masons to look into claims made by former owner Whyte over his relationship with Green during the change of ownership last summer.

Green resigned his position in April but “strenuously denied any wrongdoing”.

Regan said: “We wrote to the club and expressed our concerns on a number of points related to the revelations in the press about the links between Craig Whyte and Charles Green.

“The matter was then handed over to Pinsent Masons under the stewardship of Roy Martin QC and we have agreed that we will wait until that report is concluded.

“The report is being done very much on an independent basis. The club have agreed to share the findings of that report with us so that we can get transparency on the questions that we asked.

“And until that comes out it’s probably wrong to speculate on what might or might not happen.”

In April 2012, the Scottish FA banned Whyte for life from “any participation” in Scottish football for a range of breaches of the association’s rules and regulations.

The 42-year-old claims he was behind Sevco 5088, the company originally designated to subsequently purchase the assets and business of the club.

However Green says he and business partner Imran Ahmad, only told Whyte what he wanted to hear in order to secure a deal with the club’s administrators.

Regan refused to be drawn over whether any alleged dealings would affect the club’s eligibility to play football and the transfer of the club’s Scottish FA membership to Green’s new company, which was agreed last summer.

“It’s unfair to comment on what may or may not have happened on Rangers,” said the Scottish FA chief executive.

“It’s clearly a very serious issue. The club is aware of how serious it is and we have been in discussions with the board of Rangers on that particular point.

“That’s why they have taken the step of appointing Roy Martin QC and Pinsents to come back with the information we seek.

“We fully expect those questions to be answered by the nature of the report. The clubs have shared terms of reference for the investigation and it’s a very thorough investigation.

“We’re expecting the report in the near future.”

  4. Business class and investor season ticket holders.

I may be getting my knickers in a twist about nothing ,but i would value any other patrons of these ST areas opinions on my gripe.

The Affiliation of Celtic supporters currently have the use of the Champions lounge at CP.

Next season they will no longer be using the Champions lounge and will be moving to the Kerrydale Suite.

Members of the affiliation will have use of the KS on a first come first serve basis.

They will close the doors at 800 patrons.

Now i have no problem with this per say.

Celtic are quite rightly trying to increase revenue ,buy selling food and beverages to 800 fans, who may spend their money outside the stadium otherwise.

My gripe is what extra am i getting for The £1400 plus vat ticket that i pay for?

I will be entitled to a free programme and a free pie and bovril at half-time.

If Celtic are going down this road then they should be reducing the cost of being in the business class lounge down to approximately the same price as a season ticket for any other part of the stadium.

Can you be in the Masons if you’re black or Asian?

    I just wondered.

When I think of that lot , inside my head they all look like Raymond Baxter from Tomorrow’s World, not cool like Nelson Mandela or Rajesh Kuthrapali.

  6. “The report is being done very much on an independent basis” ….does Regan practice at being a tadger or does it come naturally …clown

The sfa are bailing them out by giving them a licence, which won’t be taken from them.

There will always be some version of the huns about, the sfa are waiting for real huns to step up to the plate, fraudsters, tax cheats, you know the kind.

Problem is though, at some point soon enough, they will be challenging us again, this will be with the help of the cheats with the whistles, there is nothing surer.

Without their help last season, they would have struggled big time to get out of that league they were in.

Unless clubs grow a pair, and challenge the powers, this is what have to look forward to in the not too distant.

I don’t think it’s as black and whyte as that.

From what I see panning out, green didn’t cover all his corners regarding whyte… a deal will be brokered between the two of them and other’s will be paid off.

The huns will accept they need to make a payment then move on.

  9. I’ve an idea for Sevco.

When I was a bairn I remember going a few junior games.

At half time they went round the park with a big blanket and the punters would throw in loose change.

Makes sense to me , if nothing else it could meet Sally’s steak bake bill!

The SFA will provide a membership for Newco again.

They will not refuse them access to playing in Scottish football.

At this stage who owns them is unimportant to me ,unless they have money to bank roll their losses.

They should not have a membership to play in Scottish football.

They will yet again be allowed a membership.

Your thoughts fellow business class ST holders?

TinyTim I have often referred this issue to Celtic management that this ST is the most expensive pie in UK football. I think the idea of opening up the Kerrydale Suite is great opportunity for fans and a money maker for the club. However don’t think there is much value in the “expensive” seats anymore IMO obviously!

  16. TET

Spot on mate, disgraceful that every club abides by the rules except that lot.

They have made our game a laughing stock, a club investigating themselves have you ever heard the like of that that in yer life.

What’s the chances of me robbing a bank and telling the coppers it’s ok I’m investigating myself don’t panic.

I still can’t believe we are sitting here discussing our governing body, if all fans got off their ars** then they would soon change their stance.

I agree that the SFA will accommodate any sevco reincarnation

However, they will be financially hamstrung ….as was stated previously ….having big attendances come a big expense ….the profit margin is not high , particularly when they are charging the limited sums that they are for STs

It’s a long road back and with Easdales et al at the helm there’s more fun ahead for CFC fans

Whoever runs the Champions Lounge is being moved to the Kerrydale Suite.

I have no problems with that.

With the profits from food and beverage sales ,Celtic should then reduce the cost of my season ticket to be more in line with other fans who will also have access to the Kerrydale facilities.

    They won’t anytime soon.

I believe the reason this offer is not open to Ireland and Channel Islands is due to broadcasting regulations in relation to watching games live. The “British Isles” come under the footprint of live match broadcasting arrangements.
