I am sure Neil Doncaster’s job is full of stresses and strains but this week will probably be a breeze. Fans of every club in the league appear to be in uproar at the resolutions for an Insolvency Transfer Event to be voted on later this month. Infuriating everyone is surely better than infuriating most but leaving one group happy.
Fans of 11 SPL clubs have reacted in horror that the league seek to introduce a facility to allow a liquidated club to phoenix straight back into the top tier of Scottish football. Fans of Rangers, while along with administrators and bidders for the club are publicly opposed to liquidation, are outraged that this new facility to allow a new club entry to the SPL should carry a sporting and financial inhibitor.
For clarification: the inhibitor is there to ensure clubs have a modicum of moral hazard against gaining an unfair advantage before ditching creditors and their old skins, and emerging in the SPL with player registrations from another club but without the debts or consequences of mismanagement.
Rangers US and Singapore based bidders seem unperturbed by the proposals. Paul Murray’s Blue Knights consortium has curiously lost its tongue. Maybe this helps explain all those years when the EBTs were unopposed by the former Rangers board. Silence, not even an utterance!
There remains three possible outcomes to this issue:
The proposed SPL resolutions will be passed, allowing a Newco straight entry to the League.
The resolutions will fail and the SPL board will vote a Newco into the league anyway.
The resolutions will fail and the SPL board will deny Newco a place in the league.
Celtic Quick News first flagged this scenario in October last year when we predicted Newco would be given a parachute into the SPL, opposed only by Celtic. As the key resolution (2A) requires only 8 votes I still expect this to happen, despite the ‘Bring it on’ view of many Rangers fans to the prospect of starting again from Division Three.
As the financial penalty resolution (2B) requires 11 votes I expect this to fail and no financial penalties to be imposed.
The question for Kilmarnock, Dunfermline, St Mirren, Inverness, Motherwell, St Johnstone, Hibs and Kilmarnock (don’t tell me they’ll not try to get two votes, they have a huge mountain of debt to service and have every right to demand two votes) is, will they listen to their fans or their bank manager?
Dundee United and Hearts, like North Korea, appear convinced of their own superior wisdom and, like a North Korean missile, could head off in any random direction to demonstrate their contempt for clubs scared of providing satirists with material. They could easily vote themselves into a Gorgie-Tannadice League, if they could agree on a Gorgie-Tannadice/Tannadice-Gorgie naming convention.
For now, if you care about any of this, participate in the online SPL Fan Survey. We’ll soon find out who runs Scottish football, fans or the Bank of Scotland! One additional point about democracy, it carries responsibility. In this instance, stopping Newco means fans of all remaining clubs have to step forward in increasing numbers to buy season tickets. This is the cost of sporting integrity.

We can but wait.
If UEFA allow this then the FFP is just an exercise in mis information.
Rangers FC escape may be exactly what UEFA are looking for to get them out of the whole they are digging with regards Barcelona, Chelsea, Real Madrid
(i.e 3 of the CL semi finalists)
we shall see ….sit back and observe

The Gang of Ten
Im sure that the fans of many SPL clubs would like to see RFC1872 get a bloody nose over this debt.
Im not so sure that the chairmen feel the same way but I think that one or two at least might feel the same way. Surely Dunfermline would not vote for newco at their own expense for example?
The existing rules for Liquidation
There is a rule that stands today and apparently it says that if a team gets liquidated, they are out of the league and the team that is due to be relegated will not be relegated.
The Cheats Charter
I don’t know who developed the latest proposals for newco to get into the SPL, was it Doncaster and only him?
Nor do I know who or what prompted Doncaster or his team to present these proposals? Does anyone know?
The questions
Who decided that we need a new rule?
Who made up the new rule?
On what mandate did the SPL present the proposal for the new rules?
The proposers
If this was a single handed effort without the backing of the SPL member clubs, then where does Doncaster go if this proposal is rejected? Because a rejection, (in the same strong terms that the SPL survey shows) might suggest that the proposer was more than “quite a bit out of touch”

Do you speak from personal experience? :-))
My own opinion is that your particular choice in vocabulary isn’t accurate.
However, though I disagree, your analogy would be!

Why are we not reading headlines about the Rangers directors awaiting their court appearances on tax charges ? ……..We live in a strange little country.

I suppose a submissive penchant to the point of abuse would be a more accurate scientific analysis and description.
But we can agree to disagree ;-)

Yes I’m with you but I do understand the extreme emotions this issue will invoke in people, especially Celtic supporters.
My father first took me as a nipper to Celtic park in 1966 and I have been going regularly ever since.
I have the same seat in the North / Upper – 403 since the stand was built but I will
not be renewing my season ticket if that mob are allowed back into this league.
I disagree Paul67, if we all run out and renew our season books we have no
bargaining power, it will be seen as a mandate for the clubs to do as they please.
DBBIA always thought the ol ‘ Dick Burn was a smoothie.

Not only Dunfermline but also st Mirren.
Weeks ago there were allegations that RFC1872 were going to buy the buddies and close them down, surely they will not vote for the currants after that?
Shurely?

Cadizzy, thanks for the shout!
Not at all bad my friend. Just back from a surreal Europe and Middle East tour; Larkhall to Dubai and some points in between…..
Timed out on the projected Jelly and Ice-cream party………
Attended a few CSC functions, played some golf and mixed with the great and the good Celts of times past……..
No work or any prospects of such, so enforced early retirement it is but hey no worries, back in Cebu and all is right with my wee world…..
Hope all is well with you and yours….God Bless.

HMRC has confirmed it has issued a winding-up order against Portsmouth Football Club following an unpaid tax bill of around £1.8 million.

You know, and I know, that Celtic’s first preference is a ten team league, with four Old Firm games. That, I believe if still their major objective, despite said proposal being rejected by the current twelve team SPL. Peter Lawyell’s reaction to the ten non Old Firm clubs, (if I can use the vernacular) two weeks ago spoke to me at least, as a vote of confidence in Rangers Football Club. Nothing more, but nothing less. Not once have Celtic ever indicated that, given the plight of both Rangers and Hearts, not to mention Kilmarnock, maybe, just maybe, the SPL itself is a busted flush and that a new paradigm is necessary. The 14 team idea from Parkhead was complete flannel. The offer of an £80 million apple from BSkyb, and Celtic’s reaction to that and to the proposed SPL rule changes will tell us more about the 21st century ethos of Celtic Football Club. The question facing every Celtic supporter, indeed every Scottish football supporter is thus, are we prepared to enter into a Faustian pact?

I think that HMRC issued the petition so that they were forced into administration.
Not after they actually in administration.
TBB is correct.
They are protected whilst they remain in administration.
That is one of the major points of going into administration.

Aye and be prepared for the eternally submissive Celtic lynch Stockholm Syndrome mob if you exercise or exhibit any free will.
Quite simply and I have been saying this from my very first post on CQN are we Old Firm or are we not .. what’s our ethos … well we are about to find out
I think our ethos will be money …. and that will be clearly demonstrated in the next few weeks. I hope I am wrong but we can do nothing but observe and wait.

1650 signatures on the petition…….
Will wait for another 39 then hit the lucky number!

I thought Portsmouth went into administration in October/November(?) and the winding up petition came in January?
I also thought I remember reading somewhere in amongst all those rules that a creditor can (in extraordinary circumstances -sort of) could also apply for a winding up petition if they could prove the corpse was in fact pulseless.
Did anybody scroll to the third review on Dick Byrne’s amazon link? I’m a coffee drinker myself, so my knowledge of tea bags is somewhat limited, but that review might well, I suspect, come with a health warning…
No to Newco.
Pay yer bills.
From the Guardian 21st Jan this Year
Portsmouth have been issued with a petition to be wound up by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs for unpaid PAYE of £1.6m, according to Andrew Andronikou, the administrator of the club’s parent company. He described the situation as “very serious”.
Michael Appleton, the manager, may be forced to sell players from his already threadbare 18-man squad to raise funds to help ease the crisis.
Andronikou, of Convers Sports Initiatives (CSI), which owns Portsmouth and who handled the club’s administration last year, said: “The club effectively ran out of cash at the end of December. The situation is extremely serious, we’re under extreme pressure to find a buyer.Time is against us. The issuing of the petition effectively means the club loses its ability to use its bank accounts. But we’ve made other provisions. We’re not fazed or worried by it. The club’s debts are not significant, we haven’t got millions and millions of liabilities.
ttt – ditto!

that is obviously never going to happen.
When Salmond, Cameron, UEFA, Celtic plc, Duff & Phelps, The SFA, The SPL have all been having clandestine meetings in how to handle this emergency the right way.
I fully expect Rangers 1873 to complete this season.
