Federate with England or lose your talented teens

815

Celtic players’ participation in the World Cup ended yesterday as Efe Ambrose’ Nigeria were eventually overpowered by France.  Baring injury, Efe will be in Champions League duty in Iceland two weeks from today, which leaves the player little scope to rest weary limbs for the season ahead.

The fitness management of Efe and Emilio Izaguirre throughout the season will need to take a different path from the rest of the squad.  The search for cover for both players should be a priority.

It’s a pity for Dundee United, and for Scottish football, that Ryan Gauld seems on the verge of leaving for Sporting Lisbon at only 18-years-old.  United have seen enough to know they have a genuine talent on their hands, but the player’s glory years all lie ahead of him.

United will continue to lose genuine teenage talent until they, along with other aspiring Scottish clubs, get a change of environment.  If the Scottish Premiership folded into the English Football League structure Ryan Gould would remain in Tayside for years to come.

I completely understand our current transfer policy and appreciate the need for it especially in these times of austerity.

All I’m saying is that we need to have a level of stability in the playing staff or each season is going to become a rebuilding process.

For us grown ups that’s incredibly frustrating and for our younger supporters it denies them the opportunity to build the relationships that we had as young Tims.

Ps I rarely read Kojo but when I do it’s evident, to me anyway, that most of his football posts contain information which can be gleaned from the internet or the official club website.

I don’t see how Paul67 or any blogger dropping references to our need for a more fitting and lucrative playing environment, helps our cause. Very few changes come about because you stop agitating for them and settle for less.

There was a time, over a decade ago, when this issue was hot and live with a real chance of happening. Mostly, since then, it has been treated with indifference and some of our own are proclaiming that, therefore it will not happen.

The only future prediction I am sure of is that, if we stop agitating for it, it will be mistaken for a sign that we are content with our lot and nobody who is already at the top table will be concerned to help us.

I too, for curiosity’s sake, would like to know what efforts are being made to lobby UEFA and companies BUT, I understand that commercial confidentiality prevents some details from coming to light. Over and above that, however, we have the question of trust between the support and our club’s custodians. If the Celtic Board said we have been trying arduously for 10 years to get a better playing environment but we are being met with little success, which of the following Celtic fan reactions do you think would be most likely to occur:-

    1) Good on you. Keep the pressure up and let them know we are not going away.

    2) You have been failing for 10 years. Get out of the way and let better men try.

or 3) Give it up. They don’t want us. You’re embarrassing us by even asking.

I don’t remember anyone promising me a timetable for when change would occur.

When the Berlin Wall fell, it surprised everyone. The same will be true of new league and cup set ups. There will be posters on here telling us “it will never happen”, an hour before it is announced.

You should read what HT said. I have not yet heard anything made more clear from that source. Any player championed has already appeared in some other posters comments or in the Celtic View itself. Kojo’s previous track record includes promising a star future for Stephen O’Donnell, Marc Millar, Adam Virgo and Amido Balde. He’ll basically champion anyone cheap and denounce anyone earning a wage that he thinks is too rich.

    Ahhhhh thank you :-)

Sammi is an exception to the rule, that’s probably even those who don’t particularly rate his abilities, still appreciate what he gave to Celtic.

  20. The whole Celtic/Rangers to England scenario 10 years ago was pushed by David Murray. Even the thought that it may happen was good for him. He was trying to punt his club. It was never a goer and in my opinion will never happen.

European leagues are round the corner.

    setting free the bears

Thats fine, let the work continue in the background, I am all for that.

In the absence of a timescale for change, in the meantime we DO have a domestic league to play in and one which has been hugely successful before and can be again, due to the single most importance aspect of a football club – the fans.

We have a number of clubs with significant supporter bases, but by continuing to devalue our own product by constantly looking to get out things will not get better here.

If work is going on in the background for change, great. Keep it in the background until we have a definite timescale for change. In the meantime work with and promote what we have and realise its potential.

Writing a blog every few months is not going to influence matters in the corridors of power but it can influence supporters, positively or negatively.

Continually blogging about the need to fold our structure into England, an overhyped financial basket case of a league, doesn’t really promote a feel good factor about where we are in the here and now.
