Fifa, Keane, Davie Hay

755

And, they, gave us………. Davie Hay.  Enormous thanks to Davie Hay for coming onto the blog this morning.  It was great to read his responses on playing for and managing Celtic.  If you missed him, catch up from 09:44 here, you’ll enjoy it.

At the risk of commenting on Roy Keane when few of us know much about what happened last night….  I remain pleased we didn’t appoint him manager in the summer.  Very pleased.

Really disappointed at the outcome of the Fifa investigation into the awarding of the Fifa World Cups for 2018 1nd 2022, although, as I type that sentence, the reasons perhaps become clear.  As with all of these things, I’m specifically thinking about the Lord Nimmo Smith SPL inquiry here, football governing bodies ask the questions they want answered.  It’s not the independence of the investigator which is important, it’s who sets the scope of investigation.

You can get copies of Caesar & the Assassin, Billy McNeill and Davie Hay’s accounts of managing Celtic from Jock Stein’s departure until the appointment of Liam Brady, here.

    Old Record news

    FINANCE chief Brian Stockbridge is heard on the recordings from last summer talking to disgraced former owner Craig Whyte and axed commercial director Imran Ahmad about selling £5m worth of shares to Rafat Rizvi – who is wanted for “corruption, money laundering and banking crime” according to Interpol.

    Are you still doing the longest running Advent calendar in history? You know, the one that most of us don’t want to have to open at the end of February.

  3. Re ‘granny’

    I have a dim and distant inkling that a ‘granny’ was the slang term for being beaten to a zero score and referenced ‘nought’ meaning zero through the homophone ‘knot’ related to a granny knot. However my dim and distant inklings are alcohol sodden and not to be relied upon.

    I’m amazed at how some posters can recall incidents in games from years ago….I’m lucky if I can remember any names of lassies I went oot with back then.

    No really that interesting, just another distraction and excuse to blame everybody except those who should have been protecting the integrity of Scottish football. The SFA had the right to know of every shareholder and never even asked.

  12. Great ballad Gary, One of the very best.

    Twas down by the glenside, I met an old woman,

    A’plucking young nettles, nor thought I was coming;

    I listened awhile to the song she was humming,

    “Glory O, glory O, to the Bold Fenian men!”

    ‘Tis fifty long years since I saw the moon beaming

    And strong manly forms, their eyes with hope gleaming

    I see them again sure, through all my days dreaming,

    “Glory O, glory O, to the Bold Fenian men!”

    When I was a colleen their marching and drilling

    Awoke by the glenside sounds awesome and thrilling

    But they loved dear old Ireland and to die they were willing

    “Glory O, glory O, to the Bold Fenian men!”

    Some died by the glenside, some died amid strangers,

    And wise man have told us their cause was a failure;

    But they stood by dear Ireland and never feared danger,

    “Glory O, glory O, to the Bold Fenian men!”

    I passed on my way, God be praised that I met her,

    Be life long or short I shall never forget her;

    We may have great men, but we’ll never have better.

    “Glory O, glory O, to the Bold Fenian men!”

    The two year enquiry into corruption in the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups has exonerated Russia and Qatar,but has found irregularities on the part of England and Australia.

    Probably what we all expected.

    The author of the report ,however,has rejected the press release version of the findings.

    I find it extraordinary that seemingly nothing can be done to bring an end to the F.I.F.A. charade and to the reign of the king of clowns,Blatter.

  17. On LNS and keeping it simple from KDS

    prestonpans174513 Nov 2014, 12:12 AM

    “You see, the very foundations upon which our Club was built upon, honesty, fair-play , hard work and integrity were laid at Fleshers Haugh and it’s these traits that have bound us for 142 years.” (Tinfoil heid)

    Where do you start? :ffs:

    ———————————————-

    I’d go for 3 September 1999 when Campbell Ogilvie authorised the first DOS ebt for Craig Moore. There was no side letter but was that payment registered with the SFA?

    Failing that date, how about 30 August 2000 when Ronald De Boer was signed and paid by an irregular* DOS ebt that involved a side letter whose existence Rangers lied to HMRC about in April 2005 when HMRC enquired if one for De Boer existed.

    I’ve no doubt there was earlier chicanery as Hugh Adams suggested, but there is hard evidence to back the foregoing.

    Keeping side letters a secret and breaking registration rules continued of course from 2000 to 2011 when more lies were told regarding the UEFA licence granted that year. Then there was not telling Harper MacLeod about those early irregular ebts in 2012, again when asked.

    So taking only provable dishonesty into account, I reckon its about 130 years at best.

    As regards financial fair play, Sir David Murray stomped that to death and his legacy remains to poison our game. http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/?p=16361&cpage=2#comment-2379562

    * by irregular, a term used by Lord Nimmo Smith, I mean against tax rules or tax evasion.

    Its as simple as this. LNS was not provided the documentation Harper McLeod specifically requested from Duff and Phelps.

    That documentation meant a distinction between questionable payments with side letters (the big tax case) and irregular payments with side letters was never made allowing both ebt types to be treated as regular (if questionable ) at the time of commissioning.

    LNS treated the mall the same, Campbell Ogilvie knew they were not but said nothing and LNS findings are fundamentally flawed.

    The SPFL now know this and Harper MacLeod know it. Indeed the latter passed the evidence to the SFA so we know they now know it.

    However if no one who goes to matches regularly knows this or does but does not care then it might as well not be true.

    If LNS had been commissioned properly the titles of 1999 and 2003 would have to have been stripped from RFC.

    I’m less bothered about that than the fact the SPFL and SFA now know they were misled and are doing nothing to right a wrong and at same time are trying to persuade us that they know what is best for Scottish football.

    Just looking at that HMRC bill, would I be right in saying that the wee tax bill was the one that brought the house down and the Whyte non payment of PAYE and NI simply added later ?

    ====================

    Nope. The wee tax bill had money to pay it “ringfenced” after Sherriff Officers called to collect. This would be late Aug/Sept 2011.

    However CW stopped paying NI and PAYE and VAT to HMRC from September 2011 as he had not a pot to piss in.

    Allowing say 3 months of non payment to elapse before taking draconian collection proceedings it was the non payment of these taxes amounting to £9M according to BBC

    (HMRC lodged its petition over alleged non-payment of about £9m in PAYE and VAT following Craig Whyte’s takeover.) that led to administration in Feb 2012.

    The sum ring fenced by HMRC to meet the wee tax bill was then allocated by HMRC to that £9m uncollected tax which means the wee tax bill which arose as a result of the irregular ebts kept hidden from LNS has never been paid.

    Was ring fenced and they never got it, is that what you are saying?

    You’ll need to work that one out for me here, if it was ring fenced how could they not have got it ?

    If they never got it then that being the initial overdue payable (see what I did there) must have been the one that brought the house down, surely simple logic works here, aye they stopped paying PAYE and NI but had the wee tax bill no been overdue then there would have been similar grace on the bigger one.
