I discussed their winning of the European Cup with each of the Lisbon Lions. To say they knew nothing the impact their achievement would have is an understatement. While the uniqueness of the event was clear at the time, they were the first British team to reach the final, never mind win the trophy; they could never know light from that day would shine as brightly half a century into the future.
Celtic fans won the ‘The Best’ award from Fifa yesterday for the full stadium tifo at the game against Hearts in May to mark the 50th anniversary of Lisbon. We won it because football people, of all colours, respect heritage. And heritage comes no greater than Celtic’s.
None of this would have happened without Jock Stein and his players. They provided the foundation for everything that followed, including Martin O’Neill’s revival of the club in 2000 and Brendan Rodgers’ general Invincible-ness.
Just about every element of what you recognise as Celtic today is due to them: the trophies and glory, Champions League nights, the stadium and Celtic Way, even achievements of the Foundation can be traced back to the foundations laid in ‘67.
Congratulations to everyone involved with the tifo display. Which I missed. But I’m sure it was nice.
The players send their appreciation to all the #CelticFC fans for being #TheBest! pic.twitter.com/rgH4Kao7mv

invincible GG,
Spent a fair bit of time in Houston over the last 4 years or so, also at the same location. Stayed at the Homewood Suites there, and had a few good nights at the Westheimer Tavern, just around the corner from our office.

Rockets may go all the way this year, with Harden and Paul in tandem. James Harden is some player. Been to a few Rockets games, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Quite expensive at times, but there’s no lack of entertainment.
Sincere condolences to ALL of those on here who have had to deal with terrible times recently.
PAPAJOE55,
SANDMAN,
and I believe some horrible news of a wee fella named Oskar ?

Papajoe 55 @ 10.27 Lovely words. Hh
Good morning CQN from a still mild and dry East Devon.
Condolences to all affected by yesterday’s sad news.
It’s pump the dandy Dons day.
R.I.P. Wee Oskar.

A tired Celtic needed strength off the bench to see off a Hibs side that needed 45m to get going.

I certainly hope so

I’ve had a wee chat on here with THECELT45. He may be a Bay City Roller :-)))
I think he lives just to the south west of Houston, and I asked him if he lived in a wee Gulf Coast town called Bay City.
To be honest, there are worse places to retire to. The Americans I’ve met over there have all been very friendly, and I have a couple of friends who live in Houston, and a number of work colleagues.
I’d miss The Celtic too much if i lived over there though…….bad enough living 150 miles away in Aberdeen ;-)
sure you know the feeling !
There will be some pictures of ‘The Fleg’ around somewhere, particularly outside Killians bar in Munich, and it was very popular in The Allianz, with a number of Germans taking pictures, which, unfortunately will be spoiled by me and Sipsini standing either side of it !
BATEENBHOY
How wrong can you be-the photie will be all the better for the two proud über-Tims being held up by the fleg(!)
I don’t miss Celtic much at this time of year-I’m barred from attending in Autumn! But,aye. Family, friends and football. That’s the price of exile. I get a right downer as the train pulls out of Central on the way back,I can tell you.
Heyho,it will be good to be back, for sure. It always is.
HH and see ya shortly.

PapaJoe55 – Thoughts and prayers offered for your friends Davy and Peter, their family and friends
Wee Oskar – the same sentiments offered for him, his family and friends.
Morning all.
Raining again down here. It seems to be our permanent state these days. (The STV weather man actually said yesterday that we have been subject FOR MONTHS now to low pressure systems coming in off the Atlantic.)
Hope things are better up in Aberdeen. I think this is our hardest game of the season so far and Aberdeen have had 10 days to prepare. Nerves not good.
What’s happened to Sviachenko? We could certainly have done with him tonight.

Review of last seasons games v Aberdeen
Condolences to all my recently bereaved CQN friends.
BMCW. I look forward to seeing you on 11/11.

new article posted.
Sun is shining in Aberdeen, with clear blue skies, and no rain forecast. might not be very warm ( not Munich-like), but for this time of year, not much to complain about.
Agree that this will be our toughest ( domestic ) game so far this season, and there won’t be many tougher in what remains of the season. However, we shouldn’t fear playing The Dons at home – we’ve won 25 out of the last 31 games there, so our record is probably as good there as anywhere else. No reason to be complacent though. We’ll need to be on the front foot from the first minute. I’m sure Brendan and the players will be approaching the game in the right way.
