Fighting the same foe too many times

1064

Napoleon observed that no one should fight the same enemy too many times, as eventually their superior ways and techniques will become redundant as the inferior foe will eventually hit on a strategy which works.

Dundee United did reasonably well in their two games against Celtic in the last 9 days, despite playing a considerable part of both games with a man disadvantage.  They will arrive at Celtic Park tomorrow night having learned a few lessons, and hooping to compete with a full complement of players.

The danger for Celtic lies in what happened against St Johnstone at Celtic Park earlier this month.  The Perth team have won only two of their nine games since 17 January but they knew what to expect from Celtic, who were marginally off-pace, enough so to leave the field without points.  Another marginally off-pace performance tomorrow night and talk of trebles will evaporate in an instant.

If we’re vulnerable at any point between now and the end of the season, it’s this midweek.

Jackie Mc believes we singled Ciftci out in the Tannadice game. Shame on you Scott Brown! trying to damage the studs of his boots by sticking the nut in them.

You’re welcome. That’s the last day of the diary.

By the way, agree about bringing Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Stevens in for Saturday.

To be honest our level of play has dropped since they have been out in the recent cup matches against DUFC.

Is there anyone on the HCTS whose season ticket is in the upper tier and hasn’t yet had a ticket sent through for tomorrow night??

  6. Just heard McNamara suggest that we targetted the poor wee soul who kicked our captain in the head. Give me strength. He gets worse by the day and nobody from the SFA even questions his outpourings

Mc.Namara is morphing into Swally, with his snide comments and lack of grace.

I had high hopes when we signed John Guidetti and when he was scoring for fun I thought he could be special. However, unfortunately it did not last and he has gone on to be the team neggy always dropping hints about where he will be playing next season and then appearing to go in the huff on Sunday over who would take the penalty he then threatened to put a cloud over the celebrations by disappearing to the dressing room only big Lustig dragged him back on to the park even then he stood apart from the other players until Ronny pushed him back into the crowd of players.John for me your time at Celtic is up thanks for your effort but watch the door doesnt hit you on the back side as you leave. H.H.

  11. What utter rubbish coming from McNamara, he really is hurting. He is blaming Celtic for his chairman selling his best two players. He has gone down on my estimations big stuff,

Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to do it. I know I was not the only one who appreciated it.

I liked what I saw of GMS before (he’s a fun player), but I hadn’t realized how much work he does, or how really good SA is/is going to be. The two of them bring an energy, and SA adds a drive through the middle of the park that we have been missing since Petrov. If we can hang on to him, SA is a future captain.

Jackie seems to have forgotten that his team have had three players sent off over these games with Ciftci somehow not being the fourth.

Rev I.M.Jackie is looking more and more morose and coming over as pathetic every time he opens his mouth.

He should be wearing half an eggshell on his heid saying ” It’s an injuuustiiice!”

And Wee Stoorty is hoping for a “swashbookling” performance tonight against the mighty Alloa.

Not so much Captain Kidd as Captain Poogwash!

  15. I will be amazed if RD doesn’t start JF in the absence of SJ, with KC moving inside.

Personally, I see a hard game ahead.

KC may be a goal threat around the box, but he’s less mobile than SJ and leaves a big gap back to SB & NB, as he’s less likely to track back and link up with midfield two. These two will need to push further forward to plug the gap and link up with KC and the other front men; either that or all attacks go via the wings.

Thank you for your diary posts. I have been sharing with friends and family who were not born at that time. Much appreciated read.

  18. I’d even go as far, as putting Guidetti to the development squad for remainder of season.

I think his position is clear, therefore his presence could potentially be disruptive. I’m happy with the work of Leigh Griffiths just now. I’m also sure Scepovic could do the job when called upon. Worst case scenario stick Stokes up top.

For me it’s bye bye Guidetti

  19. Hamilton Tim,

Thanks for mentioning this – I’m also on the Home Cup Ticket Scheme but have yet to receive my tickets.

For some reason, I was in season card mode!

Are you in the same position?

  20. Call me Gerry …

The concern would be that as an attacking unit of 3, Stokes , Commons, Forrest combined, don’t even have half the work rate of : Armstrong, Johansen, GMS….

Therefore our midfield department in my eyes will be less than 50% as effective as it should be.

  21. foghorn leghorn on

i think jackie needs to remember that the lifeblood and hopes of his team and the rest of the league apart from us are about them producing good young players so that teams come in with cash and buys them which then funds the next batch of young players and pays for the wages of the coaches and the facilities to coach them in

he cant moan about the timing of when that money gets offered and the right of his clubs owners to accept that money

it is the way the game works everywhere

i wonder if he is trying to hard to appease his own fans by distancing himself from one of his previous employers

    well obviously he is

  22. walfrid 88

I’m in upper tier so a ticket was supposed to be sent to me for the lower tier. It’s not arrived.

  23. Jackie Mac is really turning into a major disappointment, you would expect him to stick up for his players but he is really talking nonsense. Get ready for more after we sort them out tomorrow night, only problem for me is I am moving down to the front of the North Stand among the plebs instead of my seat up in the gods or should I say among the gods. HaHa

Apologies for mentioning it (again) but that’s what Celtic do when they decide to close half the stadium, and relocate everybody that normally sit in the Upper tier.

  25. Geordie Munro on

It’ll be interesting to see who takes the place of Joe as he very rarely misses a game.

The last game he missed, young henderson started but I think Forrest was out injured.

Other organisations will also hold events and these will advertised as we get closer to the events.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions are also likely to organise something and I would be surprised if the major theatres didn’t put on plays from the era.

There are/will be lots of historical, cultural, musical and sporting events for people to choose from.

Ideas not mentioned yet are the GAA museum and a visit to Howth. Pubs won’t open on Good Friday and Easter Monday is a Bank Holiday.

It is really up to people whether they choose to come over at Easter weekend or April 24th.
