The day has arrived, 31 August, on a Champions League season, but news has been slow (in general) or there has been no news (at Celtic) so far. Pity help those who were not busy this morning and have burned through a packed of antacids. Deadline day reveals human nature in all its glory.
Last night Ipswich Town agreed a deal to take Daryl Murphy, whom they had on loan last season and the final six months of the previous season. Daryl would have been keen to bring his Celtic uncertainty to an end (he is out of contract when this loan period at Ipswich expires) as he has clearly enjoyed more success in the English Championship.
We didn’t see the best of Daryl but it’s good news Celtic were prepared to release him. He would surely have been retained if there was not a good chance of recruiting a replacement. No promises, of course!
Stay tuned throughout the day. If we have another ‘Robbie Keane Day’ when the CQN server takes a battering I’ll update the Facebook page and Twitter.

The city’s hotels, restaurants, pubs and shops will be in the money when thousands of visiting fans arrive to see Celtic play the Spanish giants as well as legendary Portuguese side Benfica and Spartak Moscow in the group stages of the UEFA competition, says Glasgow’s tourism boss.

Scott Taylor, chief executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “This is a welcome boost for local businesses as they have a chance to showcase what they can offer.
“Our research shows that more than 500 extra hotel rooms are taken up when Celtic play a Champions League home match.

Don’t think we necessarily need to bring new players in, but it’s always nice. However I am worried most of our targets have already found other clubs.
I think if we had really wanted Del Piero we could have had him over Sydney. It would be good to have a player of his experience and class around the squad and I do think he still has something to offer.
Henriksen is a massively missed opportunity.
Rhodes we couldn’t afford this year but should have got last year for half the amount.
Russell is a good player but in the Stokes mould. Don’t see the point if I’m honest and certainly not for £2m.
The defenders we’ve been linked to I’m unsure of – we don’t have the best record in signing centre-backs.
Nothing happenning…..ok….while yer all waiting and I ponder life’s iniquities such as finally entering the modern age and replacing the toilet brush with bleach; only to buy a bottle and find when I came home that I already have one secreted down the pack of the pan….

Would you not say that what you described above is “the real CM” rather than a poor game at the back against Aluko. I’d say you should make your judgement of any player based on his best position!
All players have off days especially when played out of position.
For the avoidance of any doubt, I agree that central defense should be the main priority and any signing should be good enough to be a first choice starter.
