The day has arrived, 31 August, on a Champions League season, but news has been slow (in general) or there has been no news (at Celtic) so far. Pity help those who were not busy this morning and have burned through a packed of antacids. Deadline day reveals human nature in all its glory.
Last night Ipswich Town agreed a deal to take Daryl Murphy, whom they had on loan last season and the final six months of the previous season. Daryl would have been keen to bring his Celtic uncertainty to an end (he is out of contract when this loan period at Ipswich expires) as he has clearly enjoyed more success in the English Championship.
We didn’t see the best of Daryl but it’s good news Celtic were prepared to release him. He would surely have been retained if there was not a good chance of recruiting a replacement. No promises, of course!

We are fine thanks; experienced a bit of a ground tremor about 25 minutes or so ago and as our pool is slightly below sea level at certain times, it threw a few hundred litres of water about and ‘Broonney’ (the dog) has been a wee bit nervy all night but hey that is just the way here. We got tickets for the Barca end quite easily. We got them from their ticket office at the ground the day before, however they did try to stop anyone in Celtic colours buying them so if you decide to do that then try not to wear green.
They may have changed their system by now of course.

At this moment we have 2 fit strikers who have played for the 1st team – Hooper and Watt (a young bhoy who has made less than 10 appearances) with the only other striker injured. I’d say 2 new strikers are a must. Stokes will more than likely go in January and we must not pile to much pressure, to early on Watt or we could destroy him.

Mixed emotions….
My mate, who I sit with at most of the away games, has just text to say that he’s booked up to go to Barcelona for the game.
I’m delighted for him because I know how much of an effort he has to make to follow Celtic. Yet, despite this, I couldn’t help the desire to reach through the phone and put my hand around his throat when I read it…..

spiers is complicit inb the scam to keep sevco in the limelight, he finds people who refer to them as sevco tiresome.
He like all huns refuses to accept the truth continuies to try and keep the waters muddy for the stupid.
I think we got the biggest hint yet from NFL that certain players will be used predominantly for CL and not in domestic games, alluded to by his comments about Brown yesterday. Although Brown is struggling for fitness, his comments made me think that he had decided on a strategy to use the full squad at his disposal more than he has done in the last 2 years.
I think this is great for Celtic and would give the academy players a real chance of progressing into the first team on a regular basis. We have seen this with the game time given to Watt and Twardzik. For this reason I would welcome a marquee signing as I don’t think it would stunt the development of Watt for example.
