Final deck clearing for deadline day

1075

The day has arrived, 31 August, on a Champions League season, but news has been slow (in general) or there has been no news (at Celtic) so far.  Pity help those who were not busy this morning and have burned through a packed of antacids.  Deadline day reveals human nature in all its glory.

Last night Ipswich Town agreed a deal to take Daryl Murphy, whom they had on loan last season and the final six months of the previous season.  Daryl would have been keen to bring his Celtic uncertainty to an end (he is out of contract when this loan period at Ipswich expires) as he has clearly enjoyed more success in the English Championship.

We didn’t see the best of Daryl but it’s good news Celtic were prepared to release him.  He would surely have been retained if there was not a good chance of recruiting a replacement.  No promises, of course!

Stay tuned throughout the day.  If we have another ‘Robbie Keane Day’ when the CQN server takes a battering I’ll update the Facebook page and Twitter.

I’m a big bhoy I can take it (I’m even taller with my dunce’s hat on).

I was actually referring to the issue of Campbell Hutton but would agree with you about the new legislation.

The major issue with it is that I don’t see us winning and I’d much prefer that we fought battles which have a greater chance of success.

Has anybody on here ever seen this guy Ogunjimi play or know anything about him ?

    —————————————

No but he has only made 10 first team appearences over the last 2 years. 3 for Standard Liège and 7 for Mallorca.

When I see numbers like this i think…

    “Not for me”

Ay3e. he is a real striker. Quite quick, strong, 6’1” – not a target man but can score with his head. Good player. has been playing for belgium recently, and their national side has a number of excellent players.

The Exiled Tim – I agree 100%. there is a lot of value to be had in their league, both from Belgian players, and also from the large number of Africans playing in Belgium (Wanyama being a great example). It is like a cheap france- players are strong, fit, athletic, but also technically good and well scholled in the basics.

    Fingers crossed we get him.

    We dont need to win.

We just need to show our support that we are not part of it. The stitch up.

But the silence speaks volumes …. i.e in that we were the architects of the new legislation.

    Hail Hail

  5. Earlier rumours of the Mallorca striker Ogunjimi proving true. Went on loan to Standard Liege in June but has agreed a permanent move to Celtic. Big Strong forward as well.

Another boot in the b***s for the board bashers…

  6. White smoke ….

    A match made for paradise,

Celtic to sign fiery red headed Egyptian striker Aswan Vestas.

  7. Seems to be hotting now. And twitter seems to be sweeping the boards with all the meaty stuff first. Must sign up to it one day.

  8. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

I have to be honest anything we get OVER a quality centre back coming in will be a bonus for me.

    Hail Hail

  9. Don´t know much about any of these rumored signings.

I hope we Ambrose sign if we want him, as it sounds like we have properly scouted him.

A decent CH signing and I hope he is, hopefully would mean Vic stays in the midfield. When it suits us we can play Chaz at LB, pinging diagonials to Mr Win-Everything-In-The-Air Samaras. Could be a decent option away from home in the Champions League.

  10. Ogunjimi is another one who looks like he wants to rediscover hios form and rekindle his career. Not much game time recently means poor stats. 5 goals in 7 appearances for Belgium suggests he can find the net.

  11. I often feel that we missed a trick in – Ryan Stevenston.

Industrious kind of player who will graft for 90 mins

and chip in the odd crucial goal. Always involved.

which reminds me of the kind of player the Maestro missed

badly when a certain – Murdo Macleod left for B.Dortmund.

  12. Is Ogunjimi’s lack of game time over last two years not been due to illness?? Think I read somewhere he had thyroid problem

How would that be in Glesgae speak Marvin “OH GOAN JIMMY”

  14. the words Belgian international should a least mean Ogunjimi has ability, if we sign him its up to us to get the best out of him

Simply fed up wi being told by the suits that no matter how much time effort and money we put into the club-for no return other than pleasure-it ain’t enough for them to operate it at a profit.

There are a lot of sensible people who support Celtic, and to a whom a P/L-how ironic is that?-is second nature.

I’m sick of feeling that I have been lied to,simple as that.

I told my mates up in Kilwinning-eight years ago-that they were being lied to.

    See how that turned out.

I’m not suggesting that you are a board apologist-far from it,you have much more kudos than I ever will,honestly-but there needs to be much more attention paid to those who question what is going on.

I can cook a set of books, ffs, and I’m neither a chef nor an accountant. Simply a minor manager wi a budget.

An ostrich steak is a wee bit bland due to the lack of fat.

It needs some herbs, spices or sauces to provide a bit of flavour, so it’s good in a stew. (Note the proper use of the apostrophe.)

Where’s Delia when she’s needed? (See bracketed note from above.)

How much did he cost or

is it yet another speculative freebie

    Celtic bored style ?

    Only asking.

    Oh and, btw….you wouldn’t be a bored – plant ?

As i say – only asking.

  19. Hearts have turned down bids from Rangers for winger David Templeton and full-back Ryan McGowan.

BBC Scotland has learned the combined offer made by Rangers combined was less than £1m and falls short of Hearts’ valuations of the players.

The Scottish transfer window will close on Friday night and Third Division Rangers face a 12-month transfer embargo from 1 September.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist feels he needs “five or six” new signings.

  20. Big Swee walks on with Neil Lennon on

The more I see and hear from Tony Watt the more impressed I become. Hopefully he can push on and hold down a regular place over this and next season and provide some much needed firepower and pressure on the current first choice strikers.

  21. Marti Sandino

He actually missed half a season at Mallorca due to the paperwork on his transfer being done too late! So he had to wait until the following window before he could play. He then struggled to make the Mallorca team – i am not sure why. He was doing ok last season though, and everton were rumoured to be trying to get him in the january window. he is a strong athletic type of player – ideal for the english league, and so probably useful for spl football too. Not a world beater, but i believe he would be a good ‘value’ signing – we would get quite a bit for not much cash. A bit like mulgrew for example.

I have had everything on the menu at this restaurant

I was amazed at how good crocodile meat was and springbok

I think I had an Ostrich curry

I also think that the Africans make magnificent salads

And be rest assured at the above restaurant if eh food is not good you will always have something to look at.

Neil would have him in the team EVERY game !!!

    Simples

Totally agree! For the two reasons I just posted, Vic stays in the midfield and option to play Mulgrew at LB.
