First G.o.D. reaches age of majority

Walking to the ground yesterday my brother and I were explaining to the younger generation how special these moments were, in the context of some of years we’ve lived through. Our decade in the wilderness ended 18 years ago, but that’s our 12th title in that period. We’ve turned what looked and felt like a never ending period of subjugation into a complete domination.

As that league win in 1998 reaches the age of majority, it is indisputably a Generation of Domination. None of this came as a surprise, in fact, it was inevitable.

You win or lose individual leagues and trophies often on the bounce of a ball, but the structural forces behind football shift slowly. The path we were on when Fergus left us in 1999 led to what was to come. A policy of paying your bills and keeping debt within reach was going to lose the odd title here or there, but we were always going to win the long game against a competitor who got a little carried away.

The only question now, is how many generations will it last? Or perhaps more tellingly, will it ever end?  Don’t count on it.

  12. David Moyes is Celtic’s No1 target to succeed Ronny Deila as Celtic manager after the Norwegian steps down from his post on Sunday.

Confirmation that Deila was to leave his post three weeks ago has seen a string of big names including Roy Keane, Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon linked with the vacancy.

Sportsmail understands, however, that the former Everton and Manchester United manager is the Parkhead club’s preferred candidate for the job at this moment in time.

The 53-year-old, who played for Celtic in the 1980s before embarking on his managerial career, is seen as the man best placed to secure a return to the Champions League while ensuring the club’s domestic domination continues after Rangers return to the top flight next season.

Aware, however, that Roberto Martinez might well be heading for the Everton exit with Moyes hotly tipped to return to Goodison in his place, Celtic are keeping an open mind about the situation.

Despite the limitations of the Scottish league, Moyes, who also has interest from clubs in China, is said to be enthused by the prospect of an emotional return to his home city.

Were Everton to offer him another chance to pit his wits in the English Premier League, though, the decision would not be as straight-forward.

For that reason, the names of Keane, Rodgers and Lennon as well as Paul Lambert, Michael O’Neill and Malky Mackay are still very much part of the boardroom conversation at Parkhead.

Deila steps down following Sunday’s game with Motherwell after which Celtic will be presented with the Premiership trophy.

The future of Martinez – who’s seen the Toffees win just once in their past nine games – will be resolved after his side host Norwich City on the same day.

Given the close proximity of the Champions League qualifiers, as well as the need to push season tickets, Celtic will be keen to offer clarity on the managerial situation as soon as possible.

Jordan Rossiter is on the brink of signing a four-year deal with Rangers after deciding to quit Liverpool. The teenage midfielder was also attracting interest from Tottenham and Manchester City. (Daily Mail)

Our manager continuing to pick a player who not only jumps out of 50/50s but hesitates when a ball is 55/45 in his favour and ends up losing possession or conceding a foul is another example of why he won’t be our manager after next Sunday.

Its not as if he brings much to the table technically.

Disgraceful way to talk about a Celtic player. Also, what club do you act as a scout for?

  22. Bobby / DBBIA – Cracking…muscle wastage was not mentioned in the summary but I imagine as Pep was planning to rebuild City around him then nothing serious at all….

I’m torn on Bitton. There’s a player there somewhere that’s gone backwards this year. Hopefully him, Ajer and a Victor Wanyama clone can feature next year along with Roberts, a young Henrik clone and a young Jimmy Johnstone one…
