Football’s better without manipulation

782

I’ve no fondness for Stuart McColl but I’m disappointed the wheels have fallen off Motherwell’s bogey this season.  Delivering two consecutive second place finishes in a league populated with mostly better finances teams was exceptional.  Over the last three years they have lost players instead of paying money they couldn’t afford, otherwise they would almost certainly be challenging at the top of the table.

I like Gordon Strachan.  One of the things I like about him is he is almost impossible to get on-message.  Talk about manipulating football in order to get the ‘right’ teams in the top division is ludicrous, Gordon knows this, or he wouldn’t have used a word like “manipulate”.  On a substantive note, I think he’s wrong on this point.

The game changed when Rangers were liquidated, and it changed again when Hearts and Hibs were relegated.  Fewer people buy tickets as there is not genuine competition for the league title, but some things we can do without.

Scottish football survived without the ticket money these clubs brought them, and the country’s streets, pubs and A&E departments have benefited from not having to cope with the sheer hassle we used to put up with.

I’ve enjoyed our four lower tier-only games this season, they were atmospheric and entertaining.  If this was our future, I’d bite your hand off for it before I’d want to go back to the old ways.

Celtic, Motherwell, Aberdeen and the rest are defined on their own merits, and many of us are enjoying our football.

  1. There were conflicting views at the weekend as to whether Diarra is a free agent or not.

If we can get him in for the rest of the season on a few it will be a very good move. Our younger players will learn a lot from someone of his experience and class.

We have to stand up and be counted in the same way others have already done.

But as Glasstwothirdsfull and KevinLasVegas pointed out, the SFA should have made a statement welcoming the new club to Scottish Football two years ago, then we would not have had to put up with this nonsense, and I’d sleep better at night.

See you Friday, let me know where and when.

  4. Obviously Ashley tried to hurt Celtic by hijacking the Diarra deal, only for the player to tell Newcastle “Away n lie in yer pish!”

” The longer Celtic wait as we approach this semi-final, the higher the risks involved in saying nothing. As a Celtic supporter I ask no more than Celtic state what Donald Findlay and others have had the courage to do already. On Saturday night 1st November, Donald Findlay went to bed free from the myth – he was on the side of truth and was no longer associated with a lie that as a QC he knows only too well to be complete and utter nonsense.

Now Celtic need to free themselves from the lie and the sooner the better.”

Auldheid and Italiabhoy are correct in stating that everyone in the football industry operate within a bubble.

They are as removed from “everyday” people as film stars are from their audience.

They, naturally, are motivated to protect their careers and maximise their opportunities.

If this means talking up a situation which promotes their interests, then that is what they will do.

Players will earn a bigger win bonus from beating Sevco and the MSM will attract more revenue.

Integrity does not feature in world football, never mind in Scotland.

These are the Facts of Football Life, whether we agree with it or not,

As long as people support this staus quo, it will continue.

As long as people buy into it, it will continue.

There are plenty people, voicing plenty of reasons for continuing to support the sham.

I have no problem with that.

However, in supporting it, we are validating it and condoning it.

There used to be a condition in divorce cases, that if a spouse continued to live with an unfaithful partner, they were considered to be condoning the infidelity.

What we have, in football, is a bad marriage, sharing a relationship that we feel we can’t live without.

Celtic should release a statement using Finlays words word for word. They shouldn’t reference him, but simply use the same words he did –

‘It is a different club. They may play at Ibrox and they may play sometimes in royal blue jerseys. But you cannot pass on that which is undefinable. And that is spirit and tradition and all the rest of it.

Manipulation in football? Never! The creation of a “Premier” league in Scotland in the 1970’s leading to 10 teams playing the same teams four times a season, and up to seven depending on the cup draws. The EPL. The “Champions League”. The 1922 World Cup in Quatar, now likely to be played in 2023. No, no, and no again!

    I like immigration.

I like that new people want to live in this country, and mostly they will come and absolutely be contributers to society, So its almost an open dorrs policy for me, well apart from one group.

If its spongers we want to identify, what about those people who left Scotland, go abroad, make their fortune, contribute nothing to the finances of this country, then retire here on a free bus pass and prescriptions , freehealthcare and tv licences.

i wouldnt let them back in.

  17. WC, I agree, they have to make some reference to the new club, a new rival, first game.

No reference to the Dead Club.

But if the SFA had done what they should, this would not be an issue now.

Late last week the Scottish Courts, under Lord Hodge I think, cleared the way for the completion of the liquidation process of Rangers FC. The liquidators are down to £1.7 million, and counting, (subtraction in old money), down from around £2.5 from a doc. the Exiled Tim posted a while back. Should only be a matter of time when the front pages of the SMSM announce, “Rangers FC Liquidated!”, failing that on page 17. Interestingly enough a spokesman for the Administrators, (Paul Clark?) stated at the hearing that “the club had been sold”. I must have missed that part.

A ever I agree with most of what you say.

For the likes of me who’s location makes it nigh on impossible to attend games, but would if I could, the upcoming game against them, was always going to happen mind you, I would have no dilemma, I would go.

We have been cheated since our inception, today makes it easier for info to get to the average supporter, and we know know we have been shat upon from day one.

Non attendance for some is their way of a protest, I see it differently.

No matter what, the game will be a sell out, BOTH ends will be full.

What I can’t get the head around is the silence from all the clubs in the game, they as well as us are being cheated, yet they are silent, does the ludge have that much influence, sure it does.

The media are in fear of their jobs and their family’s if they speak out, so they also stay silent.

The police, the government, the courts are all onside re the lie, the scam, the theft, the cover up.

I have no faith in the PLC to do or say anything either, imo they are a major part of the problem, their actions toward our support has been a disgrace, their silence re the cheating referees has been a disgrace, their silence re the sfa and the cover up’s have been a disgrace………..it’s all about the money, money, money.

What are we to do ?

Turn our back on the team ?

Sorry, I personally could never do that, no matter how much they lie and steal and cheat us, it makes me more resolute to fight the bastards and to bring them down.

No jokes…yes or no, a one word answer.

The press will blast his response all over the back pages.

The Hun cannot do a thing about it legally except for dishing out their usual twitter death threats.

As vile as this is, bullies and lunatics cant be allowed to control any situation. They will rage, kick and scream, and will no doubt have the msm on their side.

The ‘yes’ word will put all this nonsense to bed, and I can go to the games knowing my club are not a part of the big lie.
