Front-loading transfers with loans

823

Mistakes in the transfer market are more costly to a club than any mistake made on a football field.  It’s too easy to spend millions on a transfer fee and commit to the kind of contract you or I will never see in our lives.  After contracts are signed you need to hope the player settles into the squad, and the city, sometimes hope he learns the language, and assume he can cope with the weather.

So how do you offset this?  In recent seasons Celtic have tried, when possible, to agree a deal in principle, but front-load the transfer with a short-term loan deal.  This gives the club six months or a year to ensure all the boxes are ticked before they commit the kind of resources which would have an impact on multiple seasons.

Miku is a case in point.  Glasgow is a long way from his native Venezuela, and as different from Madrid or Valencia, where he spent most of his adult life, as you will find in Western Europe.  He is a almost certainly a better player than we have seen since he arrived at the end of the summer transfer window, but it would be foolish to suggest he has settled well at the club.

If Miku doesn’t cut it, he will return to Spain in the summer, or sooner, and Celtic will have conserved millions.

The river has gone down a foot or so in the last few days but it’s still about 4 ft higher than normal and fast flowing.

You have to aim for the centre of the bridge arch, gun the engines and go for it.

Only a few degrees deviation from course or the slightest hesitation will push you onto the bridge wall and you’re lost.

(Must sound like I know what I’m talking about but I’m not going out there till it settles down a bit, only just got used to the sharp and blunt ends of mine)

What the bored/PL won’t mention is that….since MO’N left, the continued cut-backs in the quality of player on the pitch has served up performances on a par with the – Lou Macari, BTM stuff – that we’ve had to endure over the years.

But, you know what…if, folk feel that by buying a SB that they’re helping the clubs progress…they would – on one hand be correct. But…on the other hand…what they’re doing id prolonging this – slow drive toward a car-crash since MO’N’s departure. imo

Oh, btw…before the – WGS brigade come on to nail me – WGS got ALL the luck in the CL that MO’N didny get and, when he blew 4 iar by playing his – wee man syndrome types of games by – dropping Aiden for Maloney(who hadn’t played all season) in our title decider at ibrokes….the CP crowds had already fallen by 20/30 k and, do you know what…DD flew to the other end of the world to convince WGS to stay for another year, after WGS resigned – despite THAT backdrop ?!?!?

[edit] The Auld Firm an sectarianism

Celtic haes aye haen a historic association wi the fowk o Ireland an the Catholic Kirk. As an ootcome, the club an its supporters haes been embrylt in maiters adae wi sectarianism. At its warst sectarianism haes manifestit itsel in sectarian veeolence; the reproduction o cultural prejuidices; an a perceived anti-Celtic agenda (see History o Celtic F.C.), that some fans believes tae be a pairt o a mair muckle anti-Catholic bias in Scotland (see Erse-Scots).

In the warld o Scotis fitba, sectarianism is oot the control o ony ae fitba club. It is a mair muckle issue, ruitit in social, cultural, historical an religious circumstances. Ne’ertheless, baith Celtic an the Reengers accepts that they hae a problem wi sectarianism. In 1996, for instance, Celtic stairtit thair Bhoys Against Bigotry campaign, later follaed by Youth Against Bigotry tae “educate the young on haein … respect for aw aspects o the community – aw races, aw colours, aw creeds”, accordin tae the then chief executive Ian McLeod [1].

Celtic hae aye ettelt tae engage direct wi the fans an bypass the tradeitional media ootlats as a wey o gettin mair accurate information tae the ootside warld aboot the inner warkins o the club.
